Hi Lynne
Not near us no. Sadly. I do go occasionally but it's a 30 minute walk in the wrong direction and there are only 2 days a week I can go. I get what your saying I always go to the YS section first and see what I can find and do quite well that way. I'm just wondering how I could do better when I hear so many with stocks to last out a seige. I think I'm just feeling a bit wobbly about the extra days we have to get through this month. But I'm clearly in the best company to get all the tips I can. Thanks you." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Went for a nice walk to ASDA tonight for a few things that were a better deal than my usual SM. First time I've been there! Spent £7.70, with plans to pick up more groceries tomorrow from a different store. Budget is still looking okay though. Made an apple crisp tonight, and had some of the carrot soup from a few days ago - going to try to make bread tomorrow.0

Evening everyone.
Just a very small spend today of milk at £1 and then I saw some packs of YS pigs in blankets for 39p, so just bought one pack for the freezer.
Feeling hopeful that I can come in well under budget this month - fingers crossed. DD went to a birthday party this afternoon so I didn't have to feed her!
DS rolled in at 6.30 am this morning went to bed 'til 3pm so only had one meal. Somehow don't think I can get away with not feeding them this week :rotfl:SPC 11 #4450 -
So proud of myself. I made my YS butternut squash into roast squash stuffed with onion, leek, chilli and stilton which I already had in the fridge so it didn't cost any extra. I had made the 2 halves one for me, one for DD then she informed me she was going out to dinner with her GF. Normally I would have binned her half
but this time I scooped it out added some stock and blitzed it in the smoothie maker voila !! soup for lunch at work tomorrow

I've not spent anything on food so far. Mum arrived today with a 3KG pack of bacon she didn't want, which I quickly separated into smaller packs and popped them in the freezer. So a bacon dish a week I think until it's gone to add to the weekly menu plans.
OH has gone through the freezer and made list of what is in there, so I will base the menu plans on what we have. We have quite a bit of frozen veg, mince, pork, chicken breasts, a duck, and some white fish. Today I made bread using the breadmaker and will make dough for pizzas tomorrow to use up some cheese we have. So far so good.Books - the original virtual reality.

Hi Bob, Not sure if this is helpful, but You might want to consider a bargains allowance as mentioned before?
This lets you take advantage of great offers and stock up on 'luxuries' to see you through the lean times. I do this as it means if and when I'm completely broke, I don't feel like I am - still eating steaks, roasts, berries, cheeses.
For example - before christmas I wandered about and had a look at the use by dates on the huge numbers of turkeys, ducks and geese in my nearest supermarkets. Many had dates between christmas and new year, so on the 28th I asked my dad to give me a lift and went and checked for reductions.
Got 3 whole 2.5kg ducks, a 2.8kg turkey crown, and two turkey legs for £20.
In the freezer (the turkey chunked into 4) that will do me well for the coming year - the ducks will do a posh roast at easter and on my birthday, and at some other point, plus leftovers for stirfrys/ sarnies.
The turkey will do curries, pies and stirfrys with each chunk doing meals for a week and the legs probably doing a sunday lunch each.
I did the same thing when tesco online were offering whole salmon at £5 per kilo.
I spent £80 (), but ended up with 4 whole salmon, filleting into quarters - meaning I've 16 very impressive lumps of salmon that again will do a very impressive roast, can be split into steaks, en croute, jacket potato filling - each one will feed me for a week plus the cats ate salmon heads/tails and I ended up with a boat load of fish stock.
On a more day to day level, this board and the grabit board is worth keeping an eye on - a few years back tesco offered 500g bags of pasta for 9p - I bought £5 worth (that's around 30 kilos...). Haven't had to buy pasta since :rotfl:That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Sounds yum. I haven't had roasted squash in months. May have to pick one up after work tomorrow. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
