I have gone for 15 NSDs I managed more than that in december so I figure I can do it in January. I do however have 3 birthdays in the month and DH and I are off for a week so it will be tough. The shops are all closed on the 1st though so I am pretty sure I will be able to get at least 1 NSD. :D I have 4-6 adults for dinner each night 2 veggies and the rest meat eaters so it's trying to cater for everyone without having to make 3 or 4 different meals. Meal Plan will help ... I hope :)

Night owl due to DH,s manflu snoring - Just popping in to say its my last day of 'last month' today, so have prepared my trusty notebook (mealplans/shopping lists) and dedicated receipt purse and will be withdrawing half of my food money tomorrow so I can only pay in cash. OH is on board and will take control of my cards whilst I am away shopping and in times of need will go and get the things i always forget, because he won,t come home with 30 other item,s I didn,t intend to buy :).
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Good Morning All. We were running out of quite a bit so had a large online shop delivered last night for £116.51. I will put this as my first spend of January. That's a big chunk gone out of the budget already, eek.

    Happy new year, folks! X
  • Morning everyone, my grocery challenge starts today, £70 a week so put me down for £315 this month (4 1/2 weeks).

Hoping this week will be well under as still have plenty in freezer and DD and her BF (who we feed most meals) are away for 5 days, will miss them though.
Loving life to the full, just need purse full too :)

Still not any of my planned spend this month. Going to supermarkets was definitely a routine for me replace one item I needed but ending up with a trolley full since joining no unnecessary spending challenge 2015 I am using everything up out of fridge/freezer and store cupboards first.
Have a Happy New Year everyone x

  • Update on my first ever challenge!

    My month starts on 25th.

25th and 26th were helpfully bank hols so two NSDs to start the month!

27th needed to get some potatoes as had run out. Went to Tesc* got 2.5kg for 49p, also Finest potato Daphinoise YS 39p for freezer, block of pastry to make leftovers into yummy pies for Sunday lunch, sliced meat for OH sandwiches and a pizza for OH for the monday evening when I would be travelling back from aunts (he can't/won't cook!). £4.48 spend.

28th and 29th NSDs. 29th I was fed all day by my aunt, lovely day and helped the GC budget!

30th needed first lot of post xmas groceries. Aldi* 13.84 and tesc* 8.56.

Should not need anything until usual weekly shop day of sunday now, fingers crossed. £26.88 week 1/£300 budget for month.

1 NSD to start the month, but managed to get to A*da yesterday to buy toothpaste. I hivered and hovered. Should I buy the branded Total Whitening toothpaste on offer for £1.56 per 100ml, or risk the potential wrath of OH and buy the shop's own at £1 per 100ml?

I chickened out and bought Colgate... :rotfl:Maybe next time, weird blue toothpaste!

Ooh DawnW was asking about shopping without supermarkets. Yes, it's possible, but will take up your life. I managed for 9 months, but OH was missing fresh fish, the only thing we couldn't easily source. Now there's a fishmonger on our local market, and two fresh fish shops... loads of flies in the one shop, mind - a bit off-putting.
The market was my main source of stuff, plus a local independent warehouse for toiletries and cleaning products. We tried a couple of butchers. A lot of the stuff was cheap, pre-packaged stuff, so we ended up going to the local Asian/East European/Caribbean food shops. Halal - is it meat you're looking for?
We were lucky to also have an independent pet-supply shop, hardware shop and cheese and deli shop in our town centre. Eventually, I started 'cheating' and going to Home Bargains when the pet suppliers started stocking only dainty little foil trays of cat food, and also to get hold of tinned fish.
But good luck! I still shop at supermarkets for convenience, but I like to think mine, not theirs. Indies rule!
    Keep reading books!
