I had to take my dog to the emergency vet last night (on a Sunday ), so I put a hefty sum on the credit card. I'll have to divert some of my payments from my interest-free card to pay it off, so... I won't be debt free by Christmas. I'm disappointed, but that's life I suppose.

Hope your dog is ok xx

  • Just had my first payslip without an automatic student loan deduction, and on top of that, for the first time in decades there won't be any loan or credit card deductions this month.

My student loan will start being taken again by DD in January (they get you to swap from salary deduction to DD when you near completion to prevent you overpaying), but I fully plan to ring up and pay it off before that happens.

Keep it up people, there's a sunny day at the end of that tunnel!

Hey timefortea, sorry to hear about your dog! These things happen, and hopefully it won't set you back too far. Don't beat yourself up about not hitting the Christmas target, fingers crossed you'll be one of the first past the post next year :T
  • I'm already struggling with my target! I've been buying too much stuff over the past couple of days, mostly winter boots and Christmas presents.... debt has not increased yet but I only have £6 left in my bank account until pay date (grocery shopping bought today should cover until next Thu).

So no spending this weekend and no work lunches, I'm only allowed to buy bread until paydate (25th)!

  • Today was not a good day! I got a refund from Amazon for something I bought a while ago and thought - great, I'll make a payment to my MBNA card. Instead, I made the payment to an old Lloyds credit card that I closed several months ago, it was still on my payee list and I was talking on the phone while trying to make the payment (not good at multitasking). My bank didn't want to reverse the payment so I called Lloyds and they'll return the money, but it'll take several days.

Whoops! The closest I've been to doing the same is overpaying one CC so it ended up loads in credit. Fortunately they just transferred the balance to my current account.

Hi all! Not sure where I'm at right now but hope you're all well. The run up to Xmas is really expensive...
