Just a quick update... I've filled in the all-knowing spreadsheet after paying off my loan and I'm now at...

    #41 £16,330/£15,000 109%

To celebrate paying off my loan, I've treated myself to a Fitbit as motivation to lose some weight. Finance is only one of the things in my life that needs sorting, and health has to be a high priority. It syncs with myfitnesspal automatically, as do the matching wifi scales, and gives you loads of info about your progress. I've done best in the past when I've been encouraged by technology, so here goes nothing!

I'll be running a big update later this evening, so I'll let you know how we all got on collectively in October!

Last but not least, I know it's a bit early but we should probably start thinking about who will be running next year's thread. Any volunteers?

Congrats Pablosammy that's an incredible achievement in a year.. :T I think you can rest in the knowledge that you have earned that Fitbit and that it's going to give you a kick up the butt in the right direction.. There is a great app called Bounts which you can link the Fitbit/run keeper etc too.. which you can earn vouchers on; so even more of an incentive for eating out and saving money (as long as you don't spend all the vouchers on things to make you unhealthy of course!) So annoyed that I can't add my link so I can earn points for recommendations lol

Well, I'd be interested in volunteering on the thread but I feel a little bit scared at the prospect :undecided; it will either keep me on the straight and narrow or the mathematics could give my little brain a big headache!?

  • Thanks, blubella! I'll have to have a look at Bounts, sounds like a great idea.

There is no maths involved in keeping the front page up to date - it does it all for you! You need to have a basic knowledge of Excel. You just copy and paste directly off the spreadsheet, all the formatting is built in so it appears correctly on the forum. I'd be more than happy to talk you through it if it's something you'd be interested in.

Hello all - still slogging away at the debt but it's getting harder the closer we move towards Christmas :( I've managed to pay a little bit more, so my updated signature shows:

    #85 £34,521.15/£45,868.02 = 75%

Some of you are doing fabulously well - I'm rather envious ;) I definitely will still be debt busting in 2016...

I'm pretty rubbish at Excel...unable to do the formula...I have a spreadsheet but I have to manually work out the sums! Until I discovered YNAB that is!

If you think you'd be able to teach a novice I guess I could have a go!? Unless there are any other volunteers that is!

  • Is there a thread for Christmas 2016 as well? I'm planning to pay off all my debt by then and would really like to have some company :)

There will be! I'm just starting to canvass for a volunteer to run it, and I think blubella has expressed an interest. Keep your eyes peeled towards the end of the year.

I joined the previous thread around this time last year, and set myself a small target for the remaining two months. You'd be welcome to do the same!
  • @Pablosammy thanks! I'm definitely joining! My target for the end of this year is quite high, as I'm due to get a bonus in December. Sadly £3K of that bonus will go straight to CC debt payments, the day before Christmas.

So my total target for Christmas 2015 is £3200 to my MBNA CC (this will reduce the MBNA balance to nil) and £250 to the Tesco CC, plus a £300 Barclays overdraft for a grand total of £3750.

For 2016, I need to pay the Tesco CC in full, and that's about £8.5K in 12 months :(. It's a very aggressive target but if I get a bonus end of 2016 it's doable.
