  • hello everybody

Some cracking payments all big and small well done. February seems to be going well. :j
This is my last payment for Feb £330 to my credit card.

Last year I had 7 debts and 2 mortgages, now I have 2 debts and 2 mortgages and it is really surprising now how much I am snowballing. I have dropped below £80k total debt for the first time in 8 years.

Good luck everyone - let's keep the momentum up in March.:)

    Thanks Pablosammy:A

Evening all, after a couple of people mentioning switching bank accounts to get the switching deals I have been contemplating doing this.

I wouldn't want to move our main current account (with Barclays) as we've had it forever and because we have banked with them for a long time and they have a different way of working out how much they will lend etc, we were able to get a mortgage through them last year when no one else was interested (DH self employed).

We do however have a separate current account with Barclays that we use to pay all of our bills. I was thinking of the santander 123 current acc as they'll pay cashback on most of our d/ds payments and we may even earn interest during parts of the month. However, I've had an oooh should I do it moment...I need someone to slap me and tell me not to be 'a loyal fool'!!

Loyalty with Barclays has paid off for us as we now have a house, but with the monthly cash back and quidco cash back for transferring we could get around £100 this year which I could use towards paying off some debt.

What to do...what to do!!

    Hey mossy,

I recently did the following (maybe it will help you decide):
    • Switched my main bank account to Halifax for £100 incentive and £5 per month.
    • Switched joint account to Santander 123 as that is where all our bills are paid from. So far it was worth it as I have received a lot of cashback.
    • Opened a Natwest account for the 5% interest. My plan is to switch this around in future for the incentives.

So far I am happy with my changes Except that my credit rating has taken a Huge hit. I'm not planning on getting credit for a while, so that is OK, but it is something to keep in mind.

Whatever you decide, remember to check topcashcack and quidco for additional cashback (I forgot on my halifax account)

Edit: Right now I am making about £30 per month thanks to these changes (where I used to pay £17 per month) excluding the moving incentives.
  • Pay day, and bonus day, so I could have been debt free today, but very sensibly paid my bonus in to my pension instead :A but not long now...
