I don't know how people have the energy to keep switching bank accounts. Ivd got three cos the first two messed up and can't be arsed to close them! :D

    Hi Amr547,
I was on last year's thread and wanted to pop in and say I am still really enjoying all your posts and it's sunk in now that I have paid off all the eeevil card debts and I am very grateful to folks on here for the support.
I just switched banks as per Martin's article, I nabbed £100 from Hoolifax and if I meet their 3 things each month and stay in credit they'll pay me a fiver. I am really looking forward to receiving my first one for Feb and the switching process was simple and done in 7 days and I could choose my own date. Things have moved on since I last changed in the 1990's! Plus I want to stay in credit so like the idea of getting money from my bank as a reward for good behaviour.
Keep up the great work everyone, well done Pablo Sammy for your great work on here this year running everything.
    Xx WBF

Don't think it's impossible. Can you realistically clear 30k by xmas? Are you ok with looking at that amount? If you can/are great... start. If not set a target for the year. That's what I've done with 15k to aim for but my total debts are much higher.
Also do the snowball calculator on whatsthecost, yo can save hundreds or thousands in interest payments. Good Luck x

Thanks minmac, I pondered over whether to carve up the debt. Part of the decision to keep it at that huge amount is to stop kidding myself and see the big picture. I think that'll work for me better as I've spent a longtime pretending I don't have that much debt because its spread all over.
I don't know if I can pay it off by Xmas, I'm self employed so will be paying off in dribs and drabs but I've just got to start haven't I.
hey thanks for reading my post and replying, its my 1st response on a forum :)

A lot of people are on the thread for the 2nd or 3rd year running as they didn't clear it all the first time. Me included! It just helps us to keep on track. Good luck x

I started back in 2012 with a £10k target and soon realised I would find it more motivational to be paying off my entire debt. It really worked the first year then we had (more) redundancies and a baby come along and this year I am ecstatic to see the total going down and knowing there isn't any more hiding as you say. The only downside is that 1% of a larger debt is obviously larger so it feels like a huge effort to get from say 5-10% paid but it is totally worth it when you do well. I'll be your big debt buddy if you like!

  • Finally payday!!

    No. 003 £2750 / £6000 45.83%

So close to 50% I will be smashing 50% this month if it is the last thing I do!!
  • Hi everyone, made my last payment for February today. So that's another £70 off the debts. I have updated my signature.

I will catch up with the thread later but finding it so supportive so thanks very much everyone. Finding it a bit addictive too! Our washer is on its last legs and my mum offered to loan me the money to replace it but I said "we wanted to save up ourselves". Normally I wouldn't think twice about swiping the card and not worry about how/when I was going to pay it back. Feeling grown up at last. Ha

February is bonus month and both me and OH's bonuses were MUCH bigger than I expected.

So - I have managed to pay off everything I aimed for this year (before our 0% deals run out). :j

In a way I am a bit dissapointed. I don't feel the satisfaction I think I would have felt if we had paid this by watching what we spend. Instead it was handed to us on a platter.

    Anyway, new total is:

    021 :j [STRIKE] Silian £18,035.31 / £13,000.00 [/STRIKE]

Debt payment will be much slower going forward now (I have about £10k left). This is because:
    • OH will no longer be contributing as we have paid off our joint debt
    • I'll be spending some of my money on much needed repairs to our house
    • My 0% deals will only run out next year and my mortgage is VERY high - I'll be putting more money into that.

On the other hand, you never know what will happen and it will be better to have all the debts cleared. So I will continue to try to clear as much as I can despite these things.
