  • I do this too- well kinda, i have "save the change" set up on my TSB current account, it automatically rounds up to the nearest £ when ever i spend on my debit card - at the end of each day it goes into my savings account automatically. I dont miss the money from my current account and at the end of the month its a nice sum to add towards debts x.

oh that is a really handy thing to do! shame not all banks offer this!

  • Kirstydriver I think lloyds may do this too, they certainly did when it was llyodsTSB and both banks have kept pretty much a lot of the same features i think.

I love save the change feature, i have it set up on my usual current account, savings then transfers over to my 5% current account, then on to debt after 1st of every month, its amazing how quickly it builds up. Its like a virtual "copper jar"

car went straight through on the MOT, PHEW! i was so worried cos this car is about 18 years old!!! we had some little bits done such as headlight (which was needed for MOT) and some fan belt thing, anyway, all in all cost £79 which certainly isn't shabby when you consider the MOT cost was £55!

Awesome news the car got through mot on minor expense. Mines due in a few months. Hoping it passes as last year it was close to failing on emissions.

Hi. Please can I have your opinions and thoughts....
One of my debt targets is to an overseas debt collector from when I lived abroad. As I was late on a few payments on my credit card which I accessed online, my account was referred to a debt collector. They wrote to me numerous times but didn't have an email address or telephone number so I wrote to them via international snail mail but I didn't hear back from them in response to my letter. Finally a letter arrived with an email address so I emailed them explaining my situation and I made them an offer of an affordable monthly repayment. I explained that it would take me 4 years to pay off but I am willing and able to do so. I did ask if they could freeze interest charges as it would take me my whole lifetime to repay otherwise. The last time I contacted them was a month ago. I haven't heard anything back. I haven't made any payments yet either. I don't have the international postal redirection now either so all mail is going to the overseas address now.

I am currently putting the amount I offered away, so I have it when they ask for it.

What should I do? My thoughts are a combination of the following:
    * Contact them again via email with the same request as before
    * Make a payment even though they haven't agreed to the amount / frozen the interest - knowing without freezing the interest the balance is never likely to be paid off
    * Do nothing and hope they don't contact me for the next 5 years! As far as I know they don't have my uk address but they do have a uk sister company who they can transfer the debt to who can then come looking for me!
    * Save as much as possible to pay it off when they ask for it
    * Apply for UK credit to pay it all off and then pay this loan (which would probably have a cheaper interest rate and would cost less due to the exchange rate and additional charges that apply).

Please will you advise what you think I should do / what you would do? I am trying to be as honest as possible with this. I would desperately like to not have this hanging over me, but know I need them to help me in order to clear the debt.

    Thanks
