So on my Tesco credit card I am in positive balance. I forgot about a refund that was due before I made my payment.

Never been in credit on a credit card. Can I just request that money be transferred or do I have to spend it to get it to £0

Been there, done that! If you ring them up they'll do a transfer to a current account. If it's only a small balance, I'd just use it for groceries or whatever and then pay the difference off.

Yeah it's only about £24 so I'll just buy stuff and repay if I go over.

Had a tiny payrise - £28.46 - so have skimmed it off and paid it off the Capital One card. My normal payment is due out in a couple of days so will amend after that has gone out to take it every month

For me another encouraging thing is how relatively small payments look much more impressive when you see what it does to your percentage total. Makes me more determined than ever. :)

  • Haven't been able to chuck as much at the debt as I'd like as it's the OH's birthday in Feb so put some money aside for those expenses (presents bought in Jan sales - boom!) AND got an underpayment in income tax bill for £102.00 to be paid by end of Jan! :( Looking into the dates as I switched jobs during the financial year, and following advice on these forums looking into tax code too - just in case. But if there are no errors then that's been put aside too.

Rang the tax office (spoke to Gail who sounded like she wanted to die a slow, painful death under the weight of her own druggery) and it seems the tax is correct - my p60, combined with two extra bits of work I did for a University, and my Jobseekers adds up to their figures. The unpaid tax is on the Jobseekers (boo) but at least now I know where the figures have come from I'm happy with them. They're apparently going to alter my tax code to pay the amount off through that but I'll hold onto the money in case they change their mind and ask for a one-off payment post-31st Jan. If not though that £100 can go towards the debt - huzzah!

Hello to all the fellow newbies and here's to a late Jan surge or kick-starting Feb with some debt-reduction actions!
