 Hi Beckyy & Freddie congrats on your pregnancies
I went through loads of theories to work out the sex and they all appeared to point to a girl.
I did the Ramzi method, skull theory, the ring test and the Chinese prediction calendar.
The skull theory and the Chinese prediction calendar guessed girl, the others - a boy! It was a long wait until our 16 week gender scan as we were really hoping for a girl to complete our family - so we were thrilled to be team pink! I went back over the Chinese prediction calendar with my other two and that guessed correctly as boys so I'm a believer0 -
I was convinced that ours was a boy, based on feeling alone, but following nub theory from the 12 week scan it pointed towards being a girl (I can share photo if you like).
Sure enough, 20 week scan confirmed we're expecting a girlieFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Crazy - I've always been told, that if your scan reveals your having a boy its 100% boy, if your told its a girl then it's 50/50 till she arrives. I hoping that with two scans (private & NHS) that they've got it right as I've already been buying pink
As for a cold, I'm not sure other than honey, lemon and hot water you can take. I think you can take paracetamol for headaches and i think you can get a salt water nasal spray if your all congested.
Hope your feeling better soon.0 -

Anyone have a clue what is safe to take for a cold? I know any cold and flu remedies with decongestant are out. I tried making honey and lemon, just to smooth my throat from the cough but all its done is made me very sick for some reason. I don't want anything else adding to the reasons I can't sleep past 1am. So I'll try anything!
Very few things are proven unsafe.. however getting pregnant women to take part in medical trials is difficult. I take everything I normally would bollards to the guidelines!
however.. paracetamol, honey/lemon which is gross.. is pretty much all the pharmacist will sell you.
beconase antihistamine nasal spray is fine and actually prescribed during pregnancy, usually for hayfever, as it is used inside the nose rather than ingested it doesnt enter the blood stream..
vicks vapour rub is fine as again isn't ingested. ..
Try the honey/lemon cough syrup you can get some with glycerine too which is fine.. it might be different as syrup rather than homemade. Simple Linctus cough medicine is ok too I believe.. though you would need to check that for certain.
Boots do some lemsip style sachets without the decongestant which are ok.. they are basically paracetamol and honey and lemon.
The head steamer things are ok and unbung some of the clogged up sinuses and you can add oils to that .. menthol maybe or eucalyptus.. just dont get too hot or it can cause fainting/light-headedness.
(I'm a rebel and just take everything I would normally and never had any problem.. and that list doesnt contain any of the above!.. they say things are unsafe because they havent been fully tested but they are usually fine)LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I was told DD1 was a boy 3 times.. shes not!
The girly bits get swollen with hormones and can look like boy bits so the exact opposite is true really, DD1 had very enlarged bits when she arrived.
They were right with the other 6 I asked about though.. this one remains to be seen as I haven't checked the note which has the gender on.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Thanks for the help. I'll have a wander to boots now and see what I can get. It's quite scary how many things they tell you not to take. I got the 4head stick a while ago for headaches. It does basically nothing to shift the headache but at least feels quite soothing. I usually come back ill from holiday. Always the plane home I start. Usually chest infections. This year for the first time it's my husband who got it worse. He has a chest infection and I got away with a stinker of a cold. But I think on top of not having more than 3 hours sleep in the week since we got back in just feeling sorry for myself. Staring at the ceiling, shattered and feeling manky is no fun
Hopefully I can find something that will take the edge off it. Got to nip for more honey now anyway. Annoyingly I have golden syrup, agave nectar and all kinds of similar jars and bottles but no actual honey. Grr.Book a week challenge: 11/52. Competitions won in 2021: 120 -

We guessed from our 12 week scan photo using the nub theory that he was a boy...there's a website you can upload your photo and the "experts" will give you their opinion
they did all say boy for us...then we had a private gender scan at 16, at which we were told he was definitely a boy (and not a shy one!) then again when I was scanned last I was told boy again. Im still having anxiety dreams that im going to have a girl and she's going to have to wear all these blue clothes I've been buying!!
Im thrilled we're having a boy, but I have to say the weeks that we didn't know were just SO exciting, couldn't wait to find out. But I just knew.Proud Mummy to Ruby

Well if mine is by some miracle a boy we can swap because I've got loads of girly stuff (keep in mind we don't know what it is!!) because OH is a big woman and can't do boys!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
