I know there are massive numbers of women pregnant here at the moment.. I do wonder if people are squeezing out another to take advantage before the changes to child benefit come in.. this is a very low income area and jobs few and far between so high unemployment so that £13 is a massive amount of money for many families.. seems counter intuitive to have a child when £13 is that important.. but it does raise questions.

My BMI was about 29 too.. I'm being fast tracked through by the consultant now though.. apparently he nearly cried when he got my referral.. I'm really nice too, I may be offended!

Maybe it was a cry of joy? lol

It's far easier round here to get a midwife appointment, than it is to get a GP appointment! Every time I've requested one so far, I've only been given a phone appointment. I moved to the area late Feb last year and have still never seen my GP face to face! Though, I did hear the receptionist talking to a patient when I was waiting for my 16w apt a few weeks back and she said that they were servicing something like 43,000 patients from that one surgery!! I think there are only 3 or 4 doctors there!!

I live in the Scottish Highlands and it is unbelievably easy to get appointments here. Get my midwife appointments on the days I pick. My 12 and 20 week scan were bang on dates. We are very lucky up here. I can phone my doctor at 10.00am in the morning and get an appointment for that day, tomorrow, next Tuesday, 3 weeks on Wednesday. Basically any day I want!

Oh that sounds lovely! You have to convince the receptionist that it is something you really need to see the GP face to face for before they will grant you an actual appointment. And phone appointments are not at a set time - they are just a 'could be anytime today, even after surgery has closed' type thing. Which wasn't particularly helpful when DH was waiting on a GP call for himself, and then had to drive me up to Bristol. If the call had come then, he'd have missed it and that would be that. He'd have to start the process all over again the next day! Luckily for us, the GP didn't call until after we were back home.

So sorry to read about your cat flutter, must have been a real shock :(

We've been told that we can have NHS antenatal classes as I've such a big gap between babies but we have decided to take on a doula and between that and hypnobirthing, I think we'll be OK. Everyone I know who's been to nct classes said they are great for the social aspect but I already have mum friends and I'm quite a chatty person at groups etc so not worried about that aspect particularly.

I'm 14 weeks this Saturday and still struggling to believe I'm pregnant, I've no bump because I'm bigger anyway and no movements yet. We have a gender scan on 29th and I can't wait, had overwhelming numbers of boy guesses so far :rotfl:

16 week midwife appointment booked and off to pregnancy fat club tomorrow, let's see what they have to say. Got three doulas to meet over the next week or so, that will be interesting!

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

  • Thanks all. I took today off, my OH was off work anyway so it was nice to spend some time together.

I picked up my 2nd Emma's Diary pack today, much better than the Bounty one! I got 4 Pampers newborn nappies, some nappy cream, some Palmers skin oil, Fairy non bio sample, and nursing pads.

Have any of you been to a Mothercare Expectant Parent evening before? There is one here in 2 weeks so was thinking of going, OH prob won't be able to make it as his son has football at same time. We don't have a Mamas&Papas so this is the only big baby event locally. Guess I could take my mum if I wanted company...

  • Sorry to hear about your cat flutter!

I did antenatal last time, more useful for DH than me. I agree they are useful information but think more practical things would be helpful like how to bath a baby, make a bottle (can't tell you that as government push bf so much) etc. I think worth going if it's your first, I'm not going this time as it's hard to get a place and feel a first time mum would benefit more. NCT is more about making friends and has been popular with my friends particularly those who moved away from friends and family.

Maternity care here is great despite being a densely populated area. So very lucky, hospital has private en suite rooms.Where about a are you Toots? I love the highlands!!

Scan tomorrow - nervous! Also consultant. Leaning towards c-section Baby has been a wriggler today!

Anyone who has had multiple children - have subsequent babies been bigger than your first? People keep telling me that they are! As DC1 was a chubby little thing I'm hoping DC2 isn't!

  • Good morning ladies, as you will see it is stupid o clock in the morning and I have been up for the last 2 hrs itching like crazy!!! my boobs and belly have been a bit itchy this past couple of days (put it down to my skin stretching) but tonight it has spread from my chest to under my chin!!! No marks at all just sooooooo itchy.

Gutted as it is our babymoon this week (only going to London) but it is our only time off since we found out I was pregnant and until baby is due :( hoping it will ease off asap.

  • Skint- it might just be your skin stretching I had it a bit last time. However itching can also be a sign of another condition whose name I've forgotten, might be worth giving your midwife a ring? Enjoy your baby moon
