12-24 weeks pregnant (part 4)

I am thinking of getting a support belt and wondered what you would recommend?
I am 23 + 5 with baby no.2 (after a 15 year gap!) and my bump is starting to feel heavy at times. Didn't feel the need for a belt last time.
Thanks
Hi Pootle, I just had a really basic one from Mothercare last time:
http://www.mothercare.com/Blooming-Marvellous-Maternity-Support-Belt/LU3356,default,pd.html
It's got a thick band of elastic at the bottom and velcros around your tummy, just holds everything in a bit. The bit above just just stretchy cotton, like a bump band.
I get lots of shooting ligament pains when standing up, and my bump is sore if I'm on my feet for a long time. Last time I wore it on days when I knew I'd be standing a lot in the lab etc. but not used it so far this time.Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
I'm getting a bump!!!
OH woke up this morning and said "Lu your tummy is really firm!" and I can really see it today. Obviously I'm not huge so it looks like a podge at the moment but very happyOur Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

LittleMoog wrote: »How is everyone? I'm still really exhausted a lot of the time, but DD has a cold and has been waking regularly in the night for 3 weeks now  which is getting old now! I'm also really sore and achy, lots of round ligament pains and my stomach muscles are protesting at being stretched out, so I think I need to dig out my support belt from last time. The last few days I've had a nagging pain in my pelvis/hips, which I'm a bit worried is the start of SPD/PGP, I didn't have any pain like it last time, but 2 of my sisters have suffered really badly with it. Saffagal, I think you mentioned you were starting to get pelvic pain as well? How are you doing?
I'm knackered. And not going to lie, can find myself being a but irritable at times. Simple stuff I gloss over most of the time but when I get my periods those things annoy me, it's sort of the same feeling lol. Mostly at work when i feel like i run about like everyones slave and all i get is moans in return!! Practice for motherhood i think lol. Sometimes feel i cant do anything right. Was out with my 2nd job tonight, looking forward to a quick 'party food dinner' and sit on the sofa when I get in. Did have a nice time at job number 2, especially seeing the fireworks on our way home but it is tiring now, kids take so much enthusiasm and energy at the best of times.
I am really enjoying feeling kicks though - my favourite bit, even when they are sometimes a bit sore. Have started getting pins and needles in my legs.0 -
hi everyone,
Littlemoog, the pain has continued though it has eased off a bit from what it was on Monday. I think, as I had pgp last time, it is likely to stick around. Hoping I can get away without a visit to the osteo this time round but we shall see how it progresses. At least it started quite late this time and as I only have 7 weeks left of work am sure I will manage.
My LO is still adamant that there is a baby in my tummy, and a sister in hers. Have my a growth scan in 3wks time so shall see then if sonographer still thinks baby is a boy... LO may be very disappointed!
I really struggle on days when I have had a bad night with LO. Last night was another, she woke at 3:30 needing a wee, and at 4:25 finally settled down on the floor beside my bed... after tucking her into hers 4 times she decided she'd rather be on the floor than in her bed - I still didn't get back to sleep till gone 5 as baby was WIDE awake and jigging about with all the up/down I had done. Yawn!
Littlemoog, when mine had a cold a few weeks ago I found child Olbas on a muslin near her head really helped her sleep through, especially if I added another drop as I went to bed.
Hope that everyone has a good Friday x0 -
My pelvic/hip pain has been nagging for a few days and getting worse each day, so I suspect it might be the start of SPD
I'll mention it to the MW at my next appointment and see if I can get some physio or anything to try and stop it getting any worse. In the meantime, I'm following my sisters' advice on minimising walking, keeping knees together etc to try and minimise it.
DD woke up with a raging temperature at half midnight last night, but then slept for the rest of the night. The snotty portion of her cold seems to have passed finally, so she doesn't need help to wipe her nose/face which is why she's been waking. We were doing snufflebabe ointment and olbas on a hanky, but the poor thing was just waking up 2/3 times a night absolutely covered in yucky thick snot. She's bright as a button this morning and I feel like a zombie!Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Having my car serviced today and the garage is only a half mile walk away - convinced OH to collect me this morning and asked him to come back and take me there in his lunch to minimise the walking. Also had my assistant drive us to all our appts this week to minimise both the driving and walking during work.
I work closely with physio's and so got advice off of them last time but it still kept getting worse. My mw recommended that I saw an osteopath. That was amazing - three sessions in total I had and was able to weightbear through both legs again, walk without pain and climb stairs without issue for the remainder of my pregnancy.
Doing a "step to" gait on stairs can really help too (bring both feet onto the same step then step up and repeat) though takes slightly longer to climb stairs. And avoid lifting/carrying anything extra.
Hope everyone has a nice day - it so gloomy and overcast here... feels like Feb!0 -
Shame, littlemoog, it is amazing how the LOs bounce back, especially after bad nights. Have to admit it is worrying me how I will have the energy to continue doing things with LO once I'm up during the night with baby.
Also, I'm 25 weeks today so should really move up... makes it seem even more real though! See you all in a few weeks x0 -

WHEN YOU SEE THIS POST DO YOUR PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!
As you'll see, I've added myself under my official Due Date but I am going to be induced at 38 weeks, which would make me much nearer the top of the list --- eeek exciting!
Just back from hospital consultant clinic, all on track, heard baby's heartbeat again which was lovely and midwife said she thought it sounded like he had hiccups! Can't feel these yet though. Got a bit concerned on Wednesday evening as hadn't felt him move much, but I think he was just hiding down low. Is it only from week 28ish you're meant to properly start counting kicks?
I've been luck so far on the hip/back pain front - had two days of hip pain but managed to sort it by putting a memory foam topper on my mattress and doing some antenatal yoga on YouTube. I also read that if you're using a body pillow to put your knee up on, you should also have your foot up too as it's important to keep your ankle and knee in line so as not to pull down on the hip joint. That seems to be working too (whether or not I do it when I'm fast asleep though I'm not sure!)0
