I changed jobs too early this year, but used to have annual conversations with DPD (I worked for a customer) about what they were planning to cope with the increased workload.

If I recall correctly, they are/were building a new hub and intended to open and use that for peak before closing it to reopen fully next year.

I don't understand why people like my boyfriend (and I've just given him a nudge!) are still leaving the bulk of their shopping to the last minute. He is apparently relying on his Amazon Prime trial - could also explain why Amazon have been so busy as they've been pushing that hard.

In any case thanks for the heads up - I was going to do a few listings but I'll hold off until after Christmas now.

Saw a My hermes delivery person, own car, stuffed to the gills. Could barely get the hatched boot shut. They succeeded, but only by crushing all the parcels at the top of the pile. Cheap prices=crap service.

It's the only way to make a few pence out of it and that is doing it without all the legal stuff paid for. They rely on a constant churn of people to fill the role, after the last batch get burnt out or fed up with making no money.

The government should crack down on all this self employed tax evasion by these companies and made them pay a proper wage.

If you're self employed you work when you want and negotiate/quote for work. You don't see a plumber or builder having to turn up 8:00 to 6:00 and work for what ever the set rate the employer gives and if he wants to stop work on Friday at lunchtime, then he can do so, because he's self employed and his own boss. Unlike these companies where they're effectively employed but have to sort their tax out and can be paid far less than the minimum wage.

My mate tried it out, and tried to do it legal and properly. Got himself a transit sized (said you need a decent sized van you can stand up in to find and get parcels) on lease with the proper insurance.

He jacked after 3 months, I asked what happened. He said, 3 months was the minimum he was contracted to keep the van. He was working 10 hour days without lunch and basically covering the cost of his fuel and lease on the van, there was no money in it for him. The only good thing is that he was that knackered everyday, that he just wanted to come home, have something to eat and fall asleep in front of the TV, so he didn't need so much money.

I think that model started with the building trade and they still use it a lot. I can't see what the government could do if people are willing to work for them.

Am I entitled to any compensation or anything due to an item that was stolen out of my yodel parcel?

I ordered 2 items online and they used Yodel to deliver my goods, the bag that arrived was torn open with an item missing.

After talking to Yodel they told me they was going to have an interview with the driver, but this is simply not good enough.

You need to contact the sender for them to put a claim in. I've had a tablet stolen on a Yodel delivery. Fortunately the seller believed me and sorted it out themselves.
If the seller won't help then you'd need to involve the police after exhausting options with Yodel.

I have already got my money back from the sender, but I wanted to push my luck and complain to yodel too.

After all, a stolen item does not just deserve a refund, they should feel ashamed of themselves.
  • YKAY - To clarify your position.

Two items were ordered. Yodel made the delivery. One item was missing. The seller provided you a full refund.

You have complained to Yodel to "push your luck". Yodel are investigating and interviewing the driver. And you feel Yodels response is "not good enough"?

They are a terrible courier company but I cant see anything wrong with their response to you.

I don't know what else you expect them to do. You can not be certain that it was stolen. I would ask the question why my item was missing, in case there were problems for receiving other deliveries from them, other than that, there isn't anything more they can do.

They suspected the item was stolen by the driver therefore they was going to interview him.

I am waiting to here further, but if my item was stolen, then I deserve more compensation than just a refund is what I am saying.

That's like me going into restaurant and receiving under cooked steak, a refund will be given. BUT if the steak was undercooked on purpose, lets say because of my nationality (and I found out).. that would be a higher complaint.

I think having an item stolen by a currier is out of order, and if I wanted too, I could involve the police.
