Yodel's yearly promotion of incompetence and lack of planning.

Oh, Chris of Tamebay, I love ebay and they can do no wrong.

Yep, Yodel have got it wrong, but then one look at their business model - the type of home delivery drivers they like to use (those with a 20 year old estate car) who will work for £10 per day after costs.

But they're not the only ones caught out. It makes me laugh, because I look at the job market just the same way I look at the housing market, not wanting either but a good weather vane.

There's plenty of people around here who would do Christmas work, but they just aren't advertising for it or are putting silly requirements in, when it should just say, want Xmas work, picking and packing warehouse work immediate start if you have the right paperwork (i.e. passport, NI number etc.).

I am always amazed that Christmas seems to catch a lot of companies, and people, by surprise.

I wonder how long before MyHermes follows them and increases its delivery estimates.

From what I can tell, Amazon have stretched their delivery limits for their own dispatches. Marketplace sellers are largely expected to carry on the same.

The Tamebay Yodel story was mildly amusing, especially for the positive spin they put on it. It's only taken them four Christmases to give their customers advanced noticed that they aren't fit for purpose.

  • Not really that surprising, customers don't want to pay for postage when they buy online so shops keep looking to the cheapest possible option and this is the result.

Its not just Yodel who have this kind of business model now though to be fair to them, Parcel Force seem to be using the same, or at least people in their own vehicles on their own time.

Royal Mail itself isn't much better, 'Signed for' parcels now either come with the normal post or are left on the doorstep. Nobody signs for them.

I don't know what the answer is long term but I'm quite surprised how few issues seem to arise.
  • Up here the traffic police have been waiting outside the depots for self employed agents to pull out loaded up and then check what class of insurance they have.
Apparently normal cheap business use does not cover goods delivery when they are not your goods.
Those who have priced the the correct insurance realise they simply can not do the job for the pay offered.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • Yodel Can't Cope - sums up their performance at the best of times.

You should complain to Royal Mail if its their postmen/women involved: they are not allowed to leave items this way
  • Seems like its all ok now.. Just make a booking on P2G and was offered Yodel - saying colelction Monday 15th if booked within next 58 hours.
