What happens if, because the online payment is taken from a debit card (so they can not take the payment if your application is unsuccessful) your bank's security systems randomly block the payment even though you have funds available? Will you have to start all over again, or will you be able to have a second go at getting your payment across?

This IS going to happen to lots of people!
  • I am over 65, paying 40% tax. My wife is under 65 paying no tax. Is it ok to declare my pensioner bonds in a bare trust for my wife so that she can declare the standard rate tax deduction and recover it?

Thanks- that worked a bit better with Chrome, but after going through the log-in process the NS&I website crashed. I tried again and succeeded. Bond paid for and confirmation email received, but as yet no actual bond number. Apparently this is only an "application".
  • Hi

After a frustrating morning trying to log-in/and phone NS&I on 0500 500 000, I went to saynoto0870 and found this number - 01253 840007. Answered immediately. Very helpful. Bonds bought!

    Cheers

Thanks - that phone number is 01253 840007.

I bought mine on-line at 3 a.m. - very simple, very quick, including registering. [But then missed some of today's lovely sunny morning down here in Cornwall!].

You need a 6-8 character password. Including one lower case letter, one cap, one number and a 'punctuation' mark (e.g. , . ! ( ) so good to have that sorted in advance.

I don't know when the website gets quiet - long before 3 a.m. I suspect!

    Good luck!

You should be careful with saynoto0870 numbers. Anybody can add a new number.

Chuckle. Tried the online application - too many frustrating crashes and obstacles to overcome. Tried a phone call or two to apply. Got tired of the 'musak' of the engaged tone. Decided to try old fashioned 'snailmail'. Printed off the postal application form. Wrote out a cheque. Trundled to the postbox this morning and felt good about this method. Am I worried about being too late with a postal application? Not in the slightest. The amount of interest on 10K for 3 years is not enough to worry about. A lot can change in 3 years. There will be some kind of new Government after May :)

The available money for both mine and OH 's new 3yr bond is all in Santander 123 in my name alone. Does anyone know whether if he joins in at the end of my phone call with the same NSI person and gives his application details to them, I can then give my Santander details again to pay for his ?
