Pensioner Bonds Guide

The NS&I server has already crashed (8am), presumably due to overwhelming demand, and if you try the telephone application number, you just get engaged.
Pretty pathetic, given the lead time they've had to put systems in place for what was inevitably going to be a hugely popular issue.
During this period I was also trying (probably like thousands of others!) to get in on the phone but never got past the "busy, please try later" messages.
2nd attempt for the 1yr/2.8% deal started at about 11.15am and the process was even worse, much longer and forever crashing and I was having to start all over again. The worst occasion was when I got to the debit card memorable name entry, because I entered the required letters it was THEN that it crashed out!
Finally succeeded at around 12.45 after many, many attempts - persistence paid off but I guess many would have given up long before I did!0 -

So confusing. They could have said that we have to preregister even though they know who you are. What a dreadful mess.0 -
Yes so I find today the first application day that no you can't actually apply by internet or phone because you have to register first, and have to do this by sending something in the post, even though you might already have an account with them and all your details.

Luckily, I was already registered as a result of previous NS&I savings purchases - but it must be dreadful for someone who has not already jumped through this hoop.0 -
You do not have to be registered before you can apply. If your application didn't go through and they are sending you information, it is more than likely that they couldn't verify your ID electronically. Perhaps call them?0

I've tried to buy pensioner bonds but I seem to need to have previously registered and have a password. Is this right/ Anyone else in this situation?0

For those like me who have given up trying to place an online application you can also do a postal application Link here"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Same here, but they dont tell you that at first, do they! you read the bumph they offer about the bonds, and press the 'apply now' ,having been told already that they will 'register' you along the way whilst you apply. You fill in your personal details, your choice of bond, your 'other ' NSI account number asked for ,(having seen that NSI index linked qualify) and then press next --and all that happens is they say thanks theyll send you the registration code you need to apply ,in the post !
Optimist - I think we'll all need to be optimistic if we think the posted forms would be processed in under 'weeks'?
ps Ive never ever had any other financial institution fail to check my ID electronically .0 -

.
If they do it correctly (lol) then they should time stamp postal receipts and ensure they get allocated.
It would be very wrong if all allocations were allowed via the internet at the expense of those without a computer or where the online application failed for one reason or another."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Can anyone describe what happens when you get through on the phone? Is there a human being? Can they speak English clearly?0
