Bank Charges Test Case Article discussion

A Supreme Court judgement has struck a grievous blow to the hopes of millions of bank customers to be refunded billions of pounds in bank charges.News just in from BBC feed. Supreme Court has upheld the Banks Appeal. The OFT cannot challenge the Banks on the grounds laid out by them.
The court has overturned earlier court rulings that allowed the Office of Fair Trading to investigate the fairness of charges for unauthorised overdrafts.
The decision follows more than two years of test case litigation.poppy100 -
Having just watched the news, I can say i'm over the moon with the ruling! Your fault for going overdrawn so take responsibilty for you actions! Would'nt it be great if the banks were now able to reclaim back the charges that were claimed :rotfl:he he he:rotfl:To say I will be laughing all the way to the BANK is understatment!!!!!0

This is an absolute disgrace.
The fact that the court could unanimously uphold the appeal strikes me as very odd.
The UK Supreme Court has ruled that THREATS are legally binding.
Bank charges are on a par with Fixed Penalty notices, and SHOULD not be given by a private body.
Does this perhaps have anything to do with the government being a major shareholder of 2 banks??0 -
Im I right in saying that a bank went bust this year in holland cos people boycotted it? If this is so, can it be done here? Ive been with the Halifax all my life, 21 years. As I see it they still owe me £4,500, why should I give them my very hard earned cash, time to change I think, i`ll stick with my N.Ireland banks.
Boycott, we still and will always have the power..............:money:0 -
So is it worth still putting in claims still? I guess its not any more as the Banks will refer to Court Ruling and throw the claim out."What does not kill you makes you stronger"0

Yes it is very fair to go overdrawn by 1 penny and get a massive fee charged. Remember who bailed out the banks. It was the poor bloody British tax payer as the Bankers were, and still are inept, at running their businesses."What does not kill you makes you stronger"0 -
