Bank Charges Test Case Article discussion

My claim has been in with the Abbey since February 07, nearly at the pay out stage when it was all put on hold in the summer, devastated as it seemed a lot of people were paid out and Abbey seemed to be the ones dragging their feet. After reading some of the postings it seems that new claims made after the summer of 07 have been paid out, ive just read one for claim made about feb 08 and paid out april 08. Has this been happening, I thought it was all put on hold for everyone claiming, how can the banks pay out new claims before people who are waiting?.Anybody know if this is happening. I understand that those going thru at the time who had had an offer could carry on with theirs, but it seems some new claims have got thru too.0

I know i have charges dated back as far as 6yrs ago, but dont have the bank statements to show. Would my bank be willing to provide them? Also, if i request my bank charges back, which were all taken from social benefits at the time and caused alot of hardship also, would the bank close my account if i succeeded in being awarded those charges back? Can i also claim back charges of interest and overpayment fees from other credit cards dating back at least 5 yrs?0

i settled for £1000 about a year ago. this amount was a total without the interest which i accepted and signed a form saying it was the end of the matter. if this case says they are wrong will that allow me to now go back and ask for the interest i was entitled to in the first place. also if they payed me back the first time surely they were admitting they were in the wrong anyway and but i have had charges put on my account since. so my other question is if i have signed saying it is the end of the matter does that include future charges i have incurred, or will i now be able to claim for these too.0

“The judge also found that the charges weren't penalties under 'common law'. Don't panic about that. It doesn't mean that the charges aren't excessive or otherwise unlawful under the UTCCR, which has always been the strongest argument and is separate to common law.”
The judge yesterday said that charges weren't penalties under 'common law'. Therefore as business bank charges are not protected under the UTCCR, does this mean and end for business bank charges?0 -
Martin Lewis is about to become one of the most unpopular people in UK for helping to ensure that ALL bank account holders have to pay an annual fee to replace the lost income that the banks rightly derived from people who were incapable of running their accounts properly
Nah i think you have not only become the most unpopular person for accusing Martin of something that has been proven true (i.e. banks are guilty) you must also be the most useless person ever to post on this thread0 -
Some good news. Banks have decided that accounts with average cleared balances of £1000+ will have no charges. Ones with balances £250-£1000 will pay £25 a month.
People with averages balances below £250 will have their accounts closed as they can no longer make any money from these people.
Well done Martin.
P.S. Yes its all made up , but it could easily happen0 -

But the whole drive of this campaign is to stop them making money this way.
If the banks cant charge accounts that go overdrawn, what is the point for them?0 -

The argument was that the cost to the bank is nothing like what they charge people who go over the limit. My example was meant to illustrate that if you dont think the service or product is worth the premium then dont use it.
Dont avail yourself of it for years and then decide its unfair and try to claim it back.
Banks are not there to give you money, you have no right to their services. They are a business like any other.
You are quite wrong. Banking in the modern world is a utility in the same way as gas and electricity is. Banking cannot be compared to a pizza, it is not a matter of choice. It is a closed industry, one step short of a cartel.
To suggest that ''they are a business like any other'' is ridiculous and naive.
How many pizza joints do you know that have been bailed out by the taxpayer? In banking, the profits are privatised and the losses are socialised.0 -

But surely this is where we are now and what we're fighting against.0
