I dont have an overdraft yet the banks charged me. I sent in a claim and then I got the letter saying they werent refunding pending this investigation.
I've have only £60 charged since then, and am keen to reclam that too!

Can we expect this money back from the original letters sent- or will we have to start again?

    Hi Jo Blev

I think we should wait for Martin and the OFT to make their statements on this.

  • Hi,

Sorry to bother you, I was going to try to claim my charges last year but was toild to wait until the high court had made a decision.

Would i be able to start a claim now? if so are there companies that could do this for me as i do not understand the in's and outs of it.

I have 4 bank accounts in total (HSBC, HSBC Card, Lloyds, RBS.) that i want to claim from and 1 credit card which

    Thank you for your time

I was on the 2nd letter stage to Natwest when my claim was halted. Should I re-send them the 2nd letter now then?
  • Does this mean that from today, the banks can no longer charge us? Also, i am with the Clydesdale Bank, who, since July have charged me around £1200. It got to a stage where I was constantly overdrawn due to the amount of charges, I was given, and this, in turn was leaving me with no money in the bank to pay my direct debits. I asked my bank manager for an overdraft facility on three separate occasions, this being declined every time. I tried to explain that I only needed about £200 just to get me out of the vicious circle I was in, only to be told that i should cancel my direct debits!
  • I closed my account with Barclays Bank about 4 years ago. I recently phoned and asked them for my old account details to claim my charges back. They claimed they didn't have to as the account was closed and they had eliminated the details of the old account on their database? Is this correct?

I am sure legally they have to keep details for 6 years, they are fobbing you off.

No, i closed my Barclays account in 2003, and i wrote to them last year for my statements, which i now have.

I cannot believe the tactics used by Barclays.
