  • ok whatever you say but you dont know there arent targets as i cant prove there are.
im sorry im just on the defensive coz everyone keeps saying most people get everything find and i have had nothing but trouble from day one benefits have been stopped well over 30 times for no reason. Its like you are saying i must be faking if they keep doing this and that is the only reason you will get taken off your benefits after the doctor, well im not faking that is one thing i am very sure about and i am not worrying anyone as people who are posting have all been already and its a worrying process anyway, no wonder labour are still in power i never come across people who think this way before!
  • im sorry if im coming across as rude, im not! im very ill already and have another big problem on my mind also. Please excuse my behaviour, im very sorry.

I don't think you are faking - my husband also suffers from mental health problems so I know how this situation can cause great stress and worry. I'm very sorry for your predicament and hope it all goes smothly for you from now on.

However I still believe your situation to be the exception rather than the rule - I still believe that most claims get dealt with smoothly and accurately and that you have unfortunately been very unlucky.

Hope things are OK for you in the future.

  • my partner has just recieved a phone call and has to go to see one of the benefits doctors. Im really worried as i have heard really bad things about these doctors, is there any tips or advice anyone could give me.
    Very much appreciated, thanks.

i had to goto an assesment for my incapacity benefit back in february, mine had got stopped but 2 weeks ago i was given it back because the doctor that had done the assesment was just knocking peopple off the benefits for 2 reasons 1- to meet targets and 2- she got like a commisson for everyone that was to be found fit for work.
she had knocked like 7 people off benefit that day.

not all of these doctors are like that but i would say be very aware of what they say to you and watch what they write and also check what they have wrote once then go over it at least another 2 times to make sure they haven't slipped something in there or missed something crucial out and dont be afraid to challenge what they have wrote (cos if you dont speak up straight away that could mean your benefit may be stopped). One last thing do not let them distract you whilst signing anything.

I know you are the one who originally posted. I cant see how everyone has been "screwed over at least once by it" when the majority of people receive benefit without a problem. I dont believe about the targets to remove people from benefit that Doctors have because there is no proof that they exist and you will not find it. The only targets they are likely to have is how many people they see in a day. Lin is correct in what she said and until you provide proof otherwise you should not worry people unecessarily.

there is quotes for them to find people fit for work there is also a commission too not forgetting the doctors that they use aint actually quallified to do these assesments they are just run of the mill GP's not specialists of which i believe they should be using then there would be no people knocked off benefits that weren't ready to be knocked off

Atos have no targets to meet, in regard to "fixing" medical reports so that those incapable of work are wrongly assessed - any mistakes are because the doctors aren't on the ball, and you can appeal this.

The DWP hate appeals, because every decision has to be justified.

I mentioned IS because the poster said this: Also we dont actually recieve ib we get income support, with a disability premium as i am on dla. I really dont understand why we have to do this medical!

I do a lot of benefits work, and I stand by what I have said - some EMP's do get it wrong (as do GP's etc.,!!!) but most give honest reports.

Forums only tend to display those claims that have gone wrong - they are in the minority.

    Lin :)

If its a minority that get it wrong can you explain why around half of all appeals are successful?

I will leave the argument concerning targets as I am unable to find the proof I had but rest assured the targets were not publicised as they have to be seens as non discriminitive.

Can you povide written proof about targets to remove people from IB and commission paid because until you do this is nothing more than hearsay. Also there is nothing to check at the end of an IB medical and nothing to sign.

Because 95%+ of decisions are correct and consequently don't get appealed.
