I really do not understand why or how many times I have to explain that it isn't about the money or the deal , it is about a company understanding how a contract between themselves and the customer works. I am sorry asking for the contract to remain as it was rather than grabbing a deal upsets you so. I have explained it several times. Thank you for your concern.

    Termination by Us

We may terminate your Amazon Prime membership at our discretion without notice.
  • It does seem that you're making a bit of a headache over nothing. I assume that, given how close we are to Christmas, you intended to make heavy use of your Prime membership, and the £79 would put quite a dent in your budget? That's the only way your approach makes any sense, and it's a perfectly legitimate reason.

Even so, if you take your emotions out of the matter and look at it as pure money, the correct course of action is obvious:

You paid £54 for one years Prime, of which you've used lets say 10 months. That's a value of £45. You've also had extensions until April, let's say 3 of them. None of these have cost you anything.

So you've lost 2 months of Prime membership worth £9, and 3 months worth £0. And you've been refunded the full £54. That's not bad going by anyones standards.

IF you get them to reinstate your existing membership, there's no guarantee that you'll get those free months back as part of that reinstatement. Even if you do, it'll cost you £54. That's just shy of £11 per month. Even at £79 for a new membership, it's only £6.58 a month. Add to that the extra month you'll get when you complain about all the hassle it's involved to sort this whole mess out, and you're down to £6 a month. Then complain again that the three months free that you had on your old subscription haven't been added to your new one, and you're up to four months free again, or £4.64 a month.

Pushing for your existing subcription to be reinstated just makes no sense at all, given that renewing now would put you in a far better position.
  • Yes thank you Tim I worked that out myself. I was angry because the whole process was ridiculous from start to finish. It isn't about the money it was about the principle , do what they like once and maybe they do it again with no re-course.

Anyhoo , Amazon have asked me to pay £79.00 (again) I don't really want the renewal coming every x-mas but then they have taken a long time to sort this out. If I renew they will credit me £30.00 if I get in contact with them , to remind them of their offer.

I understand everyone saying , but your quids in and you have had this and that for next to nothing. I would have thought that I paying back the original fee and carrying on the membership until April (the status quo ) would have been the obvious answer. As someone stated earlier, the sums involved in my returning my kindle and no longer having Prime was/is peanuts to Amazon, you would have thought they would have grabbed my offer to carry on the contract as was . My choice of waiting until April suited me because the full price rise of the membership is now kicking in and I wanted to see how it would effect the standard of the service (as many do not like the price hike ). As it is I have made even a greater saving on the offer.

For those of you who replied with scare stories of what Amazon do to those who complain and then posted links where it was obvious that all was not right on the part of the complainer , I would ask you to basically stop posting on this forum, as honestly, on a consumer forum you are a waste of space and have no idea as to what consumer rights or acceptable service are.

As for Amazons rights to cancel your membership , this should not stop people from standing up for themselves. The difference between 'service' and expectations compared to how much you save is a difference many on here simply do not understand. You have right to have a contract honoured , I mean nearly every complaint on this forum is about contracts not sticking to original deal.

    Given their apparent performance.
You will likely be extended past that.
  • It's physically impossible to reinstate a subscription once it has been cancelled. It's not a matter of being unwilling the systems will just not allow it to be done.

It has obviously been a mistake on the part of the agent that you were speaking to. As there is no way to reinstate a subscription without paying the £79 and taking Prime out for another 12 months what do you reasonably expect Amazon to do in this instance?

I genuinly don't know why you are so angry with this, a mistake has been made financially you are better off than you would have been previously, Amazon have given you Prime benefits free of charge on orders placed between January and the subscription being terminated.

I think you have to step back and accept that a genuine mistake has been made and that Amazon have done everything they possibly can to correct this.

If you pay money it takes less than thirty seconds to re-instate a subscription , it takes two days to refund it and thirty seconds to refund part of the original payment , it takes thirty seconds to extend your membership. It takes thirty seconds to take your membership away and four weeks to decide that you the only answer is to pay again , honestly what can poor old Amazon do ?

The subscription was not cancelled by me , I don't care about their system. As I stated before the naïve like yourself really shouldn't bother making such silly, ill informed and factually incorrect replies.

Every service has a contract , you have to do what the contract states and the company should do the same.

Jimboo let it go, everyone has made it clear that they don't agree with you, coming back just to argue is only going to get you wound up again.

I know for a fact everything I said is true, if you choose not to believe it then that's up to you.

With regard to a refund taking 3 days, Amazon send the payment to your bank. Usually as soon as the bank accepts it you will get an automatic email from Amazon to say the refund has been processed. It's down to your bank when the funds are available again.

I know you don't care about Amazons systems but unfortunately for you Amazon have to work within their systems and if something isn't possible then it's not possible. Crying about it on a forum won't do you any good.

Oh, and part of the terms and conditions that you agreed to when you signed up for Prime:

    "Termination by Us

We may terminate your Amazon Prime membership at our discretion without notice. If we do so, we will give you a pro-rated refund of your membership fee."
