    Debt-free and Proud!
How about a nice lexus IS SE-L instead?
  • If your looking for torque then a turbo charged engine is the only way to go but be prepared to have higher maintenance costs. personally I think a lot of modern diesel engines would feel to have better pulling power and obviosly better economy. Turbo charged cars can also be remapped and tuned more that normally aspirated engines.

E39 M5 has 500nm of torque and no turbo.

Just had a look at this beautiful black E39 M5. The interior too looks stunning.

I'm quite surprised to find that it had 369 ft/lb torque. That's an impressive figure especially compared to the V8 E92 M3, which comparatively "only" has 275 or so ft/lb torque, but then it revs higher than the V8 e39 m5.

Justin what was the reason for selling off that car? It's pretty much a jack of all trades, comfortable, sporty, luxury, beautiful interior and exterior and excellent residual value. A master piece and a classic for good reason.

Mine was carbon black too, nice hint of blue in the sun.
Had compliments from passers by when cleaning it.
One time watched a bloke walk past and turn to look at it 4 times, and he tripped over lol.

Had to pay the ex off with £14k, replaced it with an A4 tdi with 180k miles....
Couldn't fault the car, did everything brilliantly.
When you drop from 6th to 5th at 50mph in the dry to overtake, and the traction flickers, you know you've some torque...
3rd to 4th would do it too in the dry.
Comfortable, would do 165 in 5th sat back relaxed with one hand on the wheel. Never ran out of grip, power, brakes.
Sound of the doors shutting can't be beaten.
Could go on and on, but I'm going to end up with another at this rate!

A4 TDI's aren't aren't slouches either, considering it has a turbo. Is there a night and day difference between that and the naturally aspirated M5 for mid-range overtake?

M5 would be quicker in 6th than the tdi in any gear - it was the 1.9 110 mind you.
You need to drive one to have asked that question....
Driving it home after buying it ex was eating a sandwich, every time she went to take a bite I toed it, kept head butting it.

The reason I ask is that I've been a passenger inside the e90 325d and that definitely had some mid-range poke.
I thought you had the newer A4TDI's, they push around 180hp but have excellent torque.

The 325d felt as fast as my M3 during mid-range overtaking power, but looking at the speedo is entirely a different story. Diesels feel faster than what their true acceleration suggests

325d lol, you must be !!!!ed.
E46 330d mapped very aggressively has similar torque to the M5.

    A stock e90 325d has 317 ft/lb torque. That's more than a stock e46 330d, so you can't dismiss the e90 325d as "slow"
