I did - you were there a couple of weeks before us I think. I'd intended to write a trip report when I came back (I had a different username back then, had to change it last year for boring reasons) but had such a bad case of the post-Vegas blues I couldn't even look at this forum for a couple of months so didn't get around to it!. We sniggered every time we walked past 'Stuie's Bin' :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: It's the one on the walkway to Excalibur if I remember rightly? We got absolutely wasted at Times Square. When we arrived we thought we'd hate it because it was sooooo loud and we don't really like 'joining in'.....needless to say, by the time the first round was sunk we were singing along with the piano - brilliantly friendly bar :)

Anyone have an opinion or stayed at the SLS? Only having briefly popped in on our last trip on NYE, we didn't really get a feel for the place. Looking at their website, some of the rooms looks amazing, but do wonder being a bit away from the main parts of the strip we will feel a bit away from the action. Our options as it stands are either:

    3 nights SLS
3 nights Mirage (yes, we will give them another chance!)
    6 nights Aria

Or simply do 6 nights at Mirage and Aria each. Decisions, decision, decisions!

I haven't looked in any detail but thought the rooms at SLS were said to be quite small...based on how much stuff they are closing or scaling back at the property I assume things aren't going to plan for them. We wouldn't want to move twice for that length of a trip, but that's just us. If there were somewhere we really, really wanted to stay and could only do it by adding a second move then maybe.

We liked the casino well enough, it's always nice when everything is new...but we weren't blown away by it in any way...we rode the monorail up there on our monorail day but both agreed we were unlikely to make a special trip back.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

The option wouldn't be the basic room, but the Lux Deluxe King - Corner High Floor thus would comparable to Mirage. I hear you when it comes to closures and scaling back, and that for sure is a worry. Not too worried about moving, but I think you have really put the finger on what made me hesitate about SLS in all seeming great when it is new, but nothing blew me away either when we were there. The rooms though as presented on the website looks amazing and I suppose that is why I got carried away.

Thanks Ferf! Back to discussing with hubby and maybe provisionally book the hotels this weekend....

For anyone going at Easter and looking for car hire, sixt.co.uk via topcashback seem to be good value currently.
I've booked a rav4 or similar for 9 days for £209 with a full tank and the insurances with $0 excess etc. The comparison sites were quoting £300+ for the other car rental companies. I couldn't find many comments on them in Vegas on the 2014 thread so assume there are no horror stories.

I heard that SLS are being sued by the estate of Dean Martin because they didn't ask permission to use his image on the carpets. There Lways seems to be something going on with them.

We used sixt last time in town. You have to get the bus from the airport to where all the car rental places are, then you phone them and they send a bus over to you from their pitch just across the road. So that was a bit of a bind. But if you dont have a lot of luggage you could walk it as we found out it is a 30 second bus ride, you could spit from the consolidated rental place and you would smear their front window.
I quite liked it there, everything is on one floor and the cars are right outside their door
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • Flights, car hire and hotel now booked. Need to force myself to stop hotel price watching and focus on myvegas and selecting some shows see!
