    Hi

Does anybody know if its the norm to get indirect flights? I keep looking for holidays and they all seem to have at least 1 stop?

Looking for direct from Birmingham or Stanstead ideally. Failing that Gatwick or Heathrow.

    Mid September would be ideal

    Thanks

    hi ,
as others have said there are only 4-5 airports in the uk whom do direct flights to vegas.

My brother and I did our first non direct flight this year but we went to new york first, so we got flights from edinburgh to new york, stayed there 3 nights, got flights from newark direct to vegas, stayed in vegas and then got flights(1 stop) home
Prehaps an ideal is trying a 2 city break?

anyhow on a side note , there is alot of info on the first page in regards getting there and quite a few wesbites mentioned too, and well im sure alot of the mebers on here may recommened other websites too!

We used mykindatravel for our new york/vegas trip and found them £200-£300 cheaper PER PERSON than a few of the high street travel agents.
hope this may help you(or anyone else in a similar boat)

I'd think anyone would be cheaper than a high street travel agent.

Flying indirect is what you make it.
My trip this month starts with a day in Gothenburg (somewhere I've never visited before) then flying back to Heathrow where I have a hotel booked and my luggage will be waiting and leaving at 7.30 am the next morning to fly to California -total return fare is £300. Even with the hotwire 4 star hotel at Heathrow... for less than fifty pounds I've saved literally hundreds.

I've also done the Dublin way before - flown out early in the morning from heathrow Dublin (leaving my luggage at Heathrow or Gatwick left luggage) back late the same evening and out to the US the next day.

You can look at indirect two ways - either as an extra destination (not even in Europe -I've had a day in New York or Chicago enroute to or from Vegas before now too) and adding something to your trip.......or as a longer journey you are only doing that way to save money. The first works better for me :D

  • Now im confused.

How does heading to Dublin and then right back to heathrow then on to Vegas make the trip cheaper?
  • As I understand it, it's because your long haul flight officially starts from Dublin, rather than London, so you don't have to pay the horrendous Air Passenger Duty

Some bright spark in the government decided that APT, which can easily be avoided by adding two 500 mile roundtrips to Dublin/Copenhagen etc, was a great green idea.

Some of the one-stoppers have quite a long layover in Mexico City, long enough for a good look around, if anyone wants something a bit different.

As mentioned you dont pay the UK government anything as long as the London stop is just part of the original trip.

Also BA/Oneworld like to encourage people from other countries to use them, so they are very competitive on pricing from some cities.

I have recently flown from Dublin to Hawaii via London/New York/Los Angeles and Philadelphia in First/Business Class for £1,000.

As a tip if you find that getting back to your place from London before/after your trip awkward don't route through there.
My link shows lots of options omitting London. I live in Nottingham so got a cheap Ryanair flight from EMA to Dublin for £20, (OH drove me to the airport) stayed over night at the City North Hotel, (who supply free transfers) flew out the next day, on returning to DUB I got another RA flight to EMA for 9 euros and got picked up.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Just as an aside, at DUB, Terminal 1 (where Ryanair go from), go out door by arrivals, across the road, underneath the car park, and walk through to the bus station.

As well as long distance buses, there are free shuttle buses to a number of local hotels, which leave every half hour or so throughout the day. These include Crowne Plaza/Holiday Inn Express, Premier Inn, Bewleys, Carlton.

There is Radisson Blue on the airport site that you can walk to.

The "Airport Hilton" is maybe half an hour drive by taxi from the hotel.....avoid.

    Hi everyone!

My husband and I are going to Vegas for 1 night from LA. We've already got a hotel on the strip but I wanted any tips for making the most out of 1 day in Vegas! I know it's not very long though but I want to give it my best shot! We'll be there on Sunday the 4th October and we'll get there by midday. We'll be leaving on the 5th at between 12 and 3 most likely.
I've got plenty of research to do based on this thread but if anyone has any tips, please let me know!
