One of the rugby teams locally have been begging miniocc to go but I have an issue that it's full contact so young. He'd go in a heartbeat but I'm a bit worried about it. Most of his mates play rugby Sunday's and football Saturday's so I'm sure I'll have to give in at some point. As he also plays squash I've said that's enough sports with the running too. If he went Sunday's too I think it'd be too much.
We've not looked into son doing any sports yet. At the moment he's got enough to go of an evening and weekend with his music, horse riding and dog walking. The horse riding is something he's very keen on and we can do as a family with my cousin and her family. He also likes bike riding.ourcornercottage wrote: »If you're talking about Football culture in terms of Football violence this is a thing of the past. It is not the same nowadays as it once was. I've been lots of times and have never seen a bit of trouble, just loads of families gaving fun. Miniocc loves it and has never been slightly worried although he may have heard a few corse words but you get that at any sporting event. If you're talking of football culture in terms of commercialism I'm with you. It's terrible.
I was talking about both. However, I'll admit I've never been to a football match. Son has been to see some historic motor racing and to a few equestrian events.ourcornercottage wrote: »Maybe he can start on that owl of mine!
Minioccs friends dads a gamekeeper, which goes well with our anti hunting, animal friendly vegetarian living!!! We say each to their own, miniocc never gets invited there though
:rotfl:
My son knows a few Gamekeepers and can't wait to be old enough to go hunting. As you've likely guessed, we're far from vegetarian.2018 totals:

Our eldest (6) is very much into science, nature, exploring etc... We tried all kinds of sporty things then took him to Beavers and he absolutely loves it. It captured his mind so much. The group is quite small (max of 12) which helps massively.
I'm off to research the whole Natwest thing to as i need to ditch Santander once my cashback from quidco has paid out.MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0 -

MiniOCC loves beavers too. They are doing the space badge at the mo moment which he loves.
Here's where I read about the natwest account

Hi OOC!
Thanks for the info on the Natwest account. Will need to look into that once it's open.

May have to try the Beavers at some point. Wasn't something I'd considered so will look into it.ourcornercottage wrote: »MiniOCC loves beavers too. They are doing the space badge at the mo moment which he loves.

Quite intrigued to know what's involved for the space badge?
Thanks for the NatWest account link.2018 totals:

MiniOCCs Beavers is not the most organised tbh, but he LOVES it! Space at beavers consists of looking at the solar system, building a rocket and devising space related games so far!
They also have homework to do and so far miniOCC has looked at satellites, the solar system and the Little Dipper which is his favourite constellation. This week we are looking at space travel for homework and the lunar landings.
Luckily space is his topic at school this term too!
Today was a nice day, BF went on a fungi foraging course I got him for his birthday so me and the boy went to do some serious bike riding training. It's fair to say that he isn't a natural but had some stick-with-it-ness to progress to pushing himself off and turning corners too. He's not confident on a bike and isn't that bothered but I think he should learn really. He showed his dad when he got home and seemed very pleased with himself.
I also cooked a roast, 2 days worth of food so the effort of cooking it covers two meals. I think I actually prefer the left over roast Monday!
As pedal power is free, 'Twas a no spend day!
Got some returns from FC so 2/3 of the way to my next £20 investment! Snowballing my (very small) investment is very slow with FC but fun none the less! At this rate it may be worth a grand by the time I want to retire!!!
The S&S ISA has gone back up a littlewhich is good. I'd like it to get back to amount put in levels as I must admit I don't like being down on my investment! Im in it long term on this one with it not being touched for 20 years (barring disasters). So I'm expecting ups and downs.
I expect when I get my update from my unit trusts I'm going to be very disappointed this time. Pensions will also be pants but they are both also 20 odd years away from usage so not panicking on that either!
Now just for the blasted mortgage......must get rid!0 -
Space at Beavers sounds great, in fact, I'm somewhat envious I cannot attend.
Everyone should learn how to ride a bike.
All the money stuff sounds good, I don't think you need to worry about long term investments too much as usually time will go in your favour (according to what I've read).2018 totals:

Re long term investments it's actually a bit annoying that they can be checked online as I don't want to check them daily for the reasons you mention but I just can't help myself!!!!!0 -

I check my pension once/month (to verify my contribution has processed) - still disconcerting when it's gone down (like this month!). Still, at least it means my regular contribution buys more in those months, which will work out better in the long run.0 -

You are so right......shuffles off to check pension again!!!
Trying a bank payment to FC as spotted on eds diary he is doing this. It's a good way to get a few quid into it every month. Had £13 something so added £26 something to make it up to £40. Will try to round it up as soon as I'm over £10.
Today was a NSD which is 2/31 so far this month. Am going to try and count them but I expect to loose count in a couple of days.0
