We ended up in that sainsburys in Matlock but tbh I'd consider that a small one! Don't get me wrong I'm not into the hypermarkets etc and prefer to shop in independents when I can I'm just surprised not to see any. BF follows a gluten free diet and the bigger supermarkets are usually the only place you can get a decent selection hence why we were looking for one!
I haven't had a holiday in the UK in years and haven't had one up north in nigh on 20 years. Living in a very touristy area so know what you mean about the locals nog liking the tourists. I wouldn't say I don't like them but I live on the road between a very busy mooring point and a local pub and two food outlets. There are 3 houses on our road so I don't think people consider it when they are talking very loudly! (it's about half a mile long our road) and people walk back to the boats very loudly late at night. I don't want to slander them but I'd say they are usually a little worse for wear! They often torment the dogs during the day too which is very naughty. Last week we were out walking on our own road no less and got moaned at by a tourist for not crossing the road quick enough. I am relieved come October when there are less of them. It is so fantastic for the local economy so I wouldn't complain and I only moved in 2 years ago so kind of knew what I was getting myself in for but I must admit I didn't know it was quite as busy as it is.
it's lovely to come somewhere very different in terms of landscape. It just shows the variety on offer in the UK for the staycationers I can thoroughly recommend everywhere I've been but absolutely love where I live, anyone going on a UK holiday should consider the norfolk broads and surrounding area especially if you like camping of take a boat out of season as it can be extremely expensive. If you like wildlife especially birds it's a must, there is a honey buzzard around where we live at present it's fantastic. I'm not a bird nerd but I can appreciate this one and it is huge, I mean massive. We Get very excited when we see it!
In money saving news I updated my sigs!0 -
Woohoo its funding circle day! I've bid my accumulated £20 on another property loan as I'm liking the shorter term ones at the moment. I must avoid property next time so I keep up my mixed portfolio! Just so you understand the irony see sig for investment total!
I had another referral request yesterday so hopefully they will join and invest too and we will both get the £50. I really don't mind doing it it takes 2 minutes. If your thinking of joining send me a message with your email.
No other news as yet except CS has purchased yesterday too for my monthly £50 investment. They have gone down already, I need to stop looking every day!0 -
Morning OCC, you are doing fab 19000 steps is brilliant. Whats funding circle? I may have to dip my toes in. Will PM if I decide and we can both pocket some ££1.7.15: £157,469.64, 10.02.16: £93,434.74

Great day today, went to Buxton different to the other places the drive there was fantastic but obviously not as affluent as previous destinations. Didn't really do a great deal today, not feeling 100% to be honest. The boys have gone swimming and I'm going to have a hot bath to try and liven me up. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm brewing up a cold as ive had a sore throat for about 4 days and today I feel like I've had every bit of energy sucked out of me. Things I can say about today.
1. The scenery in the northern part of the Peak District is very lovely
2. Buxton is a little disappointing. Like a poorly executed version of bath. All the right bits but bad execution. The crescent being unoccupied and unworked on is a disgrace. I saw some English heritage signs up and unless there's really good reason they should be ashamed the building has been left to get into this state.
3. The drive back to Sheffield via Castleton was spectacular. And the miniOCC was pleased he didn't have to do a great deal of walking today!
Back home tomorrow so a 3 hour drive and I'm being dropped at the office on the way through to finish the payroll as its got to be in on Thursday at the latest. The joys of running your own business. We have plans afoot to scale it back a little bit in 18 months time so fingers crossed that pays off! In fact if we can do it, it will be a very good deal all around. Must really hit the OPs in this time though as income will drop a little then but free time will really increase
Edited whilst writing the post above I'd put cold tap on in the bath so it nearly overflowed! I must be feeling ill!0 -
I consider that Sainsbury's the pinnicle of supermarkets :rotfl: ... however there is a Tesco in Chesterfield which I think may well be the biggest one in the country.
Have you looked up farm shops rather than convenience stores? There are a lot around here.
As you're in Buxton today there's a large Morrisons, Lidl or Aldi (cannot remember which) and Waitrose. I hope you found the gluten free items.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
Thanks Alex, I love farm shops and use them so much at home as they are fresher, cheaper and support the farmers. Tick all my boxes. We ended up in m and s in Buxton as they have a superb GF section. Good old m and s.0

......and we are home! Drove for 3 and a half hours, went to work for 2 hours and got the bus home. I'm glad to be home, dogs are suburbly happy to be off the lead. The older dog has just slept all day.
I'm extremely tired and will definitely be getting an early night. Returned to a letter from my new CC confirming the card and that there is no balance transfer. Grrrr transfer the balance why don't you! Will ring them again tomorrow to get it done.
Requested a payout of about £25 from TCB which will go straight to the mortgage. I ordered some seeds for cabbage trees mentioned on here from eBay. Will plant them as soon as I get them. The rest of the eBay returns I'm going to send to the mortgage.
Edited £10 to mortgage and £5.61 to CC from eBay. that reminds me I need to continue the decluttering . Trying to get rid of one thing per day. It's a slow job0 -
Glad you had a good time.
I was decluttering on and off for 6 years...... But it's fantastic when it's done!
Although it's never really totally finished, as I still keep finding oddments that can go.Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
Especially when you keep re-cluttering hey! I'm trying to get rid of one item per day and not import any more clutter. I'm kinda failing in the second one!0

A general well done to all the MFW's who's kids got there results today. I can't wait to feel that pride in the miniOCCs academic achievements.
Saying that I was quite proud of his year one phonics test results! The teacher nearly fell over in shock too,as did the head! I keep saying he is quite capable, you just need to see it!0
