I know what you mean about money shuffling and multiple accounts. Its hard to get your hard totally organised and a bank holiday cocked me up in May. My approach now is to group them, so for example nationwide and TSB accounts all work together. Then 7 days later I have TSB and Halifax shuffling. I've not got it yet but my next account involved (either Lloyds or Tesco) will then shuffle a further week on. So i spread them put over the month with enough space in between to allow for weekends, bank holidays or additional shuffles i need to make.
Does that make sense?MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0 -
The various accounts shuffling is what has put me off opening other high interest current account. I can totally see myself messing it up. I also have write down what each account is designated for.
SJ your way does make sense but I don't see myself really messing it all up x1.7.15: £157,469.64, 10.02.16: £93,434.74
FIT-4 #34, MFW 2016 #89 (£7350/24000)
Target MFW Dec 20180 -
Diamonds - my approach to use the full month to make all the shuffle's rather than condensing into a short 3-4 day period. The t&c's will all ask for deposits in the calendar month so i utilise it all! Just make a start with 1-2 accounts, leave them for a month or 2 then think about another 1 etc...MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

Hi thanks alex, Matlock / Matlock bath sounds like a plan one of our days. Today we went to bakewell (it did rain) and to Mondal dale to teach miniOCC a bit about geology and engineering (viaduct) I don't think he really 1, cared and 2, listened but I'm hoping some if it went in subliminally! Got about an hours walking in there too but one of the dogs (who is 11) struggled with the steps so am going to have to factor that in tomorrow. I don't think him or the miniOCC will manage much more than 5 miles so am going to look for a circular walk about that length.
Things I will say about the Peak District
1 it has beautiful scenery
2 it has lots of old people!
3 it has great (although poorly maintained) road networks
4 people are not as friendly as they make out in the brochures!
5 there aren't that many cyclists thank goodness.
6. It's even nice in the rain.
7 it's very very dog friendly
8 it looks good for camping.
Went to see one of our lovelier customers whist in bakewell but they were in holidaywill be trying to catch up with another customer in Sheffield whilst we are here but the shop was closed today (a lot of shops closed today for some reason I don't know about)
SJ that sounds like a good idea about the money shuffle, this is the first time it has gone wrong and my plan is to keep a closer eye until I have 2 months worth in each account. Due to my plumbing DISASTER earlier in the year I have been a bit cash poor so usually have a bit more dotted around. It's just taking a while to build it back up whilst saving and OPing.0 -
Steps at 20,000 today
miniOCC and I walked up and down hotel room in basil fawlty style silly walks to do the last few steps to get over 20k!
Have decided in Matlock tomorrow there's a circular walk I've found about 3 miles which will do for the morning but aren't going to get out too early as miniOCC is still up watching dads army.
Went gadding about the Sharrow vale area of Sheffield for a few hours tonight and had tea in pizza express as its so good for gluten frees, veggies and veggie kids. They also were happy with doggies on the terrace area. Went over budget today with pizza but will keep it cheap tomorrow0 -
Oooh we love pizza express. Mrs SJ wasn't happy when she ordered a reduced calorie pizza and found it was a polo mint with green leaves slotted in between though! Needless to say i was in stitches, which made it worse!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

I'm not suprised she was angry, I'd be fuming! Pizza And low calorie should not ever be in the same sentence!0

Thinking about it i don't think we've been since either. We've tended for bella italia of late (Tesco vouchers naturally).MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

Today has been another rather nice day.
19000 steps, not bad and a lot of them up hill!
Had to curtail a longer walk as miniOCC but mainly the older dog (age 11 ish years young, he's a rescue could be older) couldn't handle it. It's the one thing that's really surprised me from being away is that the older dog perhaps hasn't got as much staying power as he once had. On a walk at home he'd outrun our much younger dog and bomb about for hours but here it's really tired him out. He's absolutely exhausted by the end is the day. In fact we cut our day a bit shorter today as he was looking bushed.
Anyhow on advise from alex we went to Matlock and Matlock bath and had a fantastic day. I have the following observations.
1. The roads are so good here, drivers curtius and roads are so empty which I love as its so much easier getting about.
2. There are no cyclists, well hardly any and they seem to be much more respectful on the road. There is much less cycling in packs and no racing (perhaps because of the hills they are all knackered!)
3. These are a lot of fish and chip shops, I mean a real lot. Considering we are nowhere near the coast I'm very surprised. I tried some of the chips today and very nice they were too
4. There are hardly any people walking on the trails. we walked up to high tor in Matlock bath and met 1 couple on it. They did warn us not to queue for the cable car as firstly it's a long queue, secondly it's very expensive and thirdly you can't take the dogs in anything when you get there. Good advise I'd say. We didn't get to do our other planned walk as by the time we walked around Matlock bath and then Matlock the octogenarian dog was pooped!
5. There are loooooads of national trust properties,if I lived up north I'd surely get a season pass as there are loads of them. Near us most of the large houses are still in private hands so I think there's only 1 or 2 NT within an hours drive.
6. Finally there are no convenience stores anywhere and I haven't seen a decent size supermarket either. It's such a shame as we've really struggled to get the bits and bobs we need and have had to resort to going to tesco in Sheffield where as we'd rather support independents in the outlying towns. The people who live here must have to travel for everything or be very organised. We're very lucky to have 2 small shops within 1 Mile walk of us and a post office still in our village too.
7. There were lots of bikers in Matlock bath and bikers things for sale in the shops. I'm not sure why but I suppose it's cos it's such a lovely drive there to try can cruise there on their Harleys! A picturesque village with loads of families and older people visiting then add into the mix hundreds of bikers. Nice mix
On a money saving note got a free parking space for the second day in a row. Walked to get a super view instead of cable car. Ate in a cheaper place and stayed in daily budget today. Used hotel facilities for a free swim. Money shuffle completed today and no notification of charges for yesterday's muck up as yet!0 -

Sounds good apart from your son not caring / listening.ourcornercottage wrote: »Things I will say about the Peak District

You've pretty much summed the place up correctly. Our roads get a lot of traffic and I think a lot of the locals don't really want tourists. As you rightly point out there are a lot of old people, our schools are very small and not much to do for the younger generations, I think most leave to be honest. We are indeed very dog friendly.
I hope you tried a Bakewell pudding (not tart).ourcornercottage wrote: »Today has been another rather nice day.

Glad you enjoyed Matlock. Not sure about your "no decent sized supermarkets"??? There's a massive Sainsbury's in Matlock.
Matlock Bath is basically a seaside town in the middle of Derbyshire. It's somewhat of a gathering place for bikers at the weekend and has been for at least as long as I can remember.
