It has been really dark, I have woken up thinking it's the middle of the night and it's nearly 7am.
Happy Solstice to everyone.
I realised we have run out of lightbulbs and I'm thinking about getting the long lasting LED ones this time. I'm not getting them until after Christmas as we have fairy lights up so it doesn't matter if it's a bit dark.:D I think I will take a bubble bath, light some candles and make a nice dinner today.lessonlearned wrote: »
I'm looking forward to 2015 and the chance to make a fesh start. 2014 was the pits. My husband had been ill for nearly nine years and the last few months prior to his death were very difficult. Although I miss him I'm glad it's over. I can rest now that his ordeal is over and start my journey to a new life.
2014 was a bad year for me too, let's hope 2015 will be much better for everyone.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

Happy Winter Solstice Shipmates :T
It's been quite dark here all day... I feel like I should be hibernating haha.
I'm keeping a tight hold on spending and apart from my budget evening out on Fri, which was great, I've not spent anything since last Wednesday's shopping trip. We're well stocked up and I'll only need a few fresh things before xmas day. It means strictly sticking to my plans and making / baking any extras from what I already have. Though there has been chat about a box of After Eights
Homemade crackers with dodgy jokes and daft hats are fab
I'd love hens, but don't have the space for them alas0 -

Does anyone else have hens or is anyone else thinking about getting some?
They really are the best eggs ever and so fresh!!!

My hubby keeps Tipplers ( a type of high flying pigeon) and in the winter when he separates them the hens pair up with each other and start laying eggs and if you put about 8 of them together they make a lovely omelette so maybe get a few more eggs from the girls here0 -
Lessonlearned Big HUGS from Sunderland hope you and your 2 lovely boys manage to get through the festive period well together and I hope 2015 will be fantastic for you all good luck on the new home front

Was in Aberdeen yesterday and was really surprised that it wasn't that busy - just like a normal Saturday. Every till was manned so no long queues even in the pound shop. OH wanted a phone cover and the one he has had for the last 2 years was only £1 but while I was in the pound shop I noticed they had loads of Jane Asher stuff so bought an icing bag and nozzles.
We also grow all our own fruit and veg -
showing off now but we grow 12 different kinds of potatoes carrots turnips leeks kale sprouts parsnips broccoli lettuce tomatoes and in the greenhouse we grow sweetcorn tomatoes and peppers. 2 append le trees strawberries rasps red black and also white currants gooseberries. I won't mention the pear tree and plum tree as they haven't produced any fruit yet. And that is in a garden 20 yards by 20yards in the north of Scotland. So if I can grow tomatoes outside anyone can.
off now to tidy out our "papers" cupboard which is crammed full of all the stuff from the organisations my husband is treasurer for etc. Nobody tell you when you retire you land up with loads of voluntary jobs.
At church this morning there was the nativity play by the Sunday School - absolutely brilliant especially when a little sheep got hit by the gold being handed over by a king. So cute as she was only about 2 years old and a real baby in the manger as there was achristening.0 -

Happy Solstice shipmates - looking forward to some more light in the day too, arrived at work last night looking like aunt sallie due to low wattage energy bulbs :rotfl: Also spied a huge box which staff have been filling for the food bank so as working tomorrow will sort some things out tonight and donate.
Have serious garden and chick envy and that wreath is spectacular! Certainly planning on making better use of my 'yarden' in 2015, spinach and cabbage have been my success this year but need to plan much better for the coming year. Have lots of seeds and tubs (aka Mr M's flower buckets bought for pennies) and a patch maybe 10 by 5 which could be planted up.
Called at Mr T's on the way home for petrol and spied 2 x 500g bags of sprouts in the YS shelf at 12p so they have been tailed and placed in freezer.
Lessonlearned - So sorry your family are going through this - you sound like a strong woman and may 2015 be a positive adventure for you all. Will be glad to see the back of 2014 too for a variety of reasons, onwards and upwards.
Tonight will be spent wrapping the last of the presents and doing a final list for food items needed and couple of things to make up the last of the gifts - heard on the radio this morning a B*ots advert stating how receiving a gift set for xmas made you feel special - am I the only one who hates receiving these? I know that it is usually on a 3 for 2 and often contains three items 2 of which stay in the cupboard, also the fact they are mass produced makes me feel anything BUT special, perhaps am ungrateful but have made it clear would rather receive favours or small inexpensive gifts the more practical the better. NO gift sets have been bought this year.
