Well, I now have chocolate brown hair and I love it
Im actually dark blonde so Ive had my hair lightened on and off for the last 25 years but with a gap for about 10 years when I didnt colour my hair at all. The one time I tried to lighten my hair at home it was a disaster, went yellow and then orange and took a year to get the colour out so figured if I was colouring it myself I would need to go darker so I did and it looks fab
Anyway, I actually do like getting my hair done, its fine but I have loads of it and its curly so when I got my hair done and straightened I always felt great but as I said before superdrug own brand hair colours are BUAV approved and thats really important to me, non animal tested so thats me all set for the new year
New year, new me, 4.29 for the hair colour and my hair actually feels in fab condition
I did have another look in tescos tonight, got several bits of broccoli YS but my mum has a rescue rabbit and she loves broccoli and I'll be making broccoli soup too so money well spent was only 30p for a big bit of broccoli
My town was heaving today, shops not all full but so many cars on the road, so I assume saturday panic has got to some people
Not me though0 -
Hi shipmates :hello: sorry have been on my sick hammock this week after moving our DS back home and me then setting to and having to wash every item of clothing as it had a very heady scent of damp to it and the. Get it all dried and ironed I totally knocked myself for six as not only the flappy joints I have the fybro grot and usually after 30 years I know when to rest and listen to my body well last week I didn't and it really knocked me off my feet so have just spent this afternoon catching up on all the posts wow I feel like I have read a book  it is great to see what everyone is getting up to and managing to make, re-use and just not get dragged onto the consumer bus and staying firmly put on the not buying it ship
Effy if you get in touch with the Sally army they can help out with Christmas presents for your boys my mam was a tambourine girl in the SA and she still supports them and their Christmas appeal I do too just to see the little ones open a present and the smile it brings is enough for me
Jackieo your post about your post chemo hair made me smile my hubby has mad curly hair that grows side ways and up but during his treatment although his chemo wasn't the one that makes your hair fall out his radio therapy did so from just above his ears down his hair dropped out and when it finally grew back it is as straight as mine so it makes for interesting cutting as I cut both hubby and sons hair hubby's now is cut shorter to try and blend the two types so not so obvious it is scary what the treatment does to the body though but your right it certainly puts life into perspective
Whilst I have been off my feet hubby went to sainsbugs to get some milk and decided that a joint of gorgeous gammon for £3 was a total steal imagine his face when the cashier asked for £9 odd he was so shocked and said that can't be right the gammons only £3 no says the cashiers it is £3 a pound well I don't want it then and promptly had it took back off the bill he came home and told me and I was nearly wetting myself laughing in between telling him next time don't be so vain and wear your glasses :rotfl:
Hubby is the big 60 tomorrow so have been getting his bits together and have had a few of the family dropping bits off already he is one of 10 children so there will be lots of tooing & froing tomorrow but hopefully be a lovely day for him
We too only buy direct family as there is far too many to buy for our son was the 34th grandchild  and there was quite a few after him so it would just be way to expensive to buy all so just direct is ideal and even then have a set limit for each other I just enjoy spending time with close family slobbing out after what will be a chicken dinner and watching some rubbish tv and playing a game and probably falling asleep very happy and pooped
Right better go and wrap some pressies and then hopefully just enjoy the next few days as will only have to get milk and bread really in the next few days
Good luck all

Well. We made our big purchase of a tumble dryer which I had planned from earlier this year.
However these are things we have NOT purchased:
- Presents for ourselves (only for junior)
- New clothes (mend and make do)
- Dehumidifier (open the windows instead)
- New boots (I'll wear my ankle trainers)
- New waterproof trousers (bought gortex patch and fixed old ones)
- Expensive face cream (mixed old leftovers into one big batch)
- BB cream (mixed some old foundation and face cream instead)..............................................................................

MoonJelly, where do you buy gortex patches? Also, do you know if they sell the tape for retaping the seams? I've hung onto my old gortex full zip cagoule and I reckon I'll be able to zip it up comfortably again in a couple of months (if weight loss continues to go well!). It's pretty tattered but will do really well for the allotment.
Thanks

No, Wednesday is just for the drunks who roll out of the pub at lunchtime and suddenly realise that someone may be expecting a present or decide to buy for everyone they know because they are filled with 'Christmas spirit' (aka alcohol). They then wander into any shop that may be open (or the nearest garage) and buy 'really thoughtful, considerate presents that people will love'.
My ex always went to buy my present on Christmas Eve (I was so important to him) leaving me doing last minute preparations and trying to keep 3 small children entertained and not too excited. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
I had to work today (charity shop in small town), so many stressed and unhappy people, most of them didn't have any ideas on what to buy people, they just knew they had to buy something.
I love my job and the massive majority of our customers are wonderful, some bring us in boxes of biscuits and chocolates to have with our many cups of tea, but so many of them are sick to the back teeth of Christmas and all the stress that comes with it, feeling obliged to buy gifts for all and sundry, with no real thought for the spiritual, or quality family time that it should be about.
I have spent much less this year, a few token presents for our two grown up children and their partners, the same for our Dads, we have four grandchildren and the majority of our spends has been on them, with fifty per cent being clothing, they need clothes far more than more toys. Next year for birthdays and Christmas we have decided to buy even less and put money into savings accounts for them instead. I certainly don't begrudge spending money on them, in fact I love it, but seriously how many toys does any child need, certainly not the amount they seem to have now.
I managed to get a few bargains, two bottles of good shampoo, a lovely butter dish and M & S Collection jumper for myself for the princely sum of £6.50. Almost my entire wardrobe is made up of charity shop bargains, many being top end shops, I am always being complimented on my clothing which is lovely.0 -
Phew shipmates it's taken me ages to read up to date. What a lovely crew you all are.
We are off to Germany tomorrow 'till Christmas eve so I will have soooo much to catch up.
This trip I paid for by some relief work and the proceeds of selling on ebay and facebook. Mostly my clothes which were hanging off me as I've lost just over 4 stone.A very few replacement clothes purchased at the chazza.
When I had cancer treatment it made my curly hair straight.Coming up to 3 years now and its getting a wave back.
Edwink,I would love some veg growing advice. It will have to be containers though as I will hopefully sell the house next year, that way I can take it with me.;)
I bought leaves seed last year, but although I planted every 2 weeks there was just too much for us.I think buying young plants but fewer is the way forward.I also bought some red onion sets which have been fantastic.Daughters rabbit enjoyed eating all the young leaves off them too (self service).I also had strawberries and to be honest they were poor, better buying them when reduced for jam.Rhubarb also and herbs.
My trouble is I am so good at not buying it ,it can be months in between trips to a shop that is'nt aldi.I only got the onions by chance as i was in wilco and they were reduced to 10p.Also I live in the back of beyond and the nearest wilco is 25 miles away so I only usualy go when I have a check up at the hospital.Very mse.
I would appreciate a nudge when it's time to plant stuff.
I went to town this morning (10 miles )to drop some stuff off at the chazza, yes it was some of our gifts from mil.I saved a non slip mat thing.WHY???? She also gives us money but every year a box of items that wouldn't have cost much but are no use to us.Think little pot dolls and novelty washing up brushes etc.Pound shop stuff.I can't tell her to stop so I hope a charity can make something from them.Yes I am bad.Yes I will never go to heaven. What else can I do? I am trying to get rid of stuff .I want to clear the decks.
I also did a spot of voluntary work for children, town was quiet.
Next year I will try to continue to make some money for A. a replacement laptop and B.hens.
Have a fantastic Christmas/yule/winter break.:xmastree::rudolf:_party_:snow_laug

Btw, my real name is Pauline, I was trolled off the boards around a year back by someone who was unhinged and made around 100 profiles to have a dig at me, been flying pretty much under the radar with a new username ever since, but just been outed on another board as having 2 profiles (which I dont, the other one is inactive)
So anyway, if people dont want to call me purpleshoes, Im more than happy that folk call me Pauline.
Nice to meet you all anyway
I support Motherwell fc as well, might as well get that off my chest while Im having a confessional
Other than that, Im pretty much boring0 -
I have a Dobbies members card costs £10.00 per year which gives me two free teas or coffees per month worth around £50.00 per year. I think the idea is once your in there you buy something else Our U3A meets for coffee morning there on a Tuesday, so sometimes I will go if I have the time , but often I am really pushed for time and my freebies get forgotten.I have a stack to use up next year as I have not used them this year.
I also have a Waitrose card so when I make the effort to go to Allington Park,Maidstone I have a nice look around and I always fine something I want and so get a free tea or coffee there plus a free newspaper.
I know all the places for freebies a true MSE OSer:):)
The Hempstead Library runs a knitting club once a fortnight on a Monday morning CAGFCGirl Lots of free wool there and patterns and even needles if you get stuck to and you get a cuppa and a biscuit chucked in for 20p.I support as many of the small library's that I can locally, or they will be closed Although I live in Rainham I use the Hempstead one as its such a tiny library and it would be such a shame to see it closed.
Spent no money today as i was looking after my four grandsons whilst Mum and DEad went Christmas shopping.Stayed to dinner tonight which was lovely a chicken pasta bake with garlic bread so no cooking for me .
Great that we are all seeing the light and not getting dragged into the mayhem that the media is trying to hype up about the shopping
I think folk are a lot more cannier than they once were and hopefully the true meaning of Christmas and family will return to lots of folk this year.
I am awaiting my oldest friends phoning to tell me if her DiL has had her baby it was due 10 days ago and seemingly they are inducing her tonight so she can be home in time for Christmas I think I'll be keeping my mobile on tonight as I know my friend is on tenterhooks.Another Christmas baby eh.and she didn't want to know what sex it was either which I think is nice. when i had my two it wasn't possible to know until they arrived and its the most amazing thing in the world to be told what you have given birth to.
Hopefully by tommorow the new little one will be here safe and sound .
Take care all I'm off to my hammock

Hiya Vulpix
No problem with the veg advice!! I will certainly give you or any of our shipmates a nudge when it is time to start to plant veg's!!
Also if you would like advice on hens I can help you and others too!! I have 13 hens and one rather handsome Cockerel (at the moment) and 8 beautiful ducks. All are healthy and happy and 100% free-range, HOORAH!!! I say at the moment because I started with 12 rescue hens and it grew to 21. Sadly rescue hens normally last between 18 months to 2 years after rescue. Some of mine lasted for 2 and a half years. I now have a mix of rescue and locally purchased hens!! Initially I found it so upsetting when I lost one of my rescue hens but you have to be strong and almost expect to loose them within 2 years or so. But, you have to look back to when they first come to live with you!! We call it their retirement home here. They do not even know what a blade of grass is, they are lethargic and are missing so many feathers. BUT, after a month or so the change in them is fantastic to see. Their feathers start growing back, they scoff grass like there is no tomorrow and they have so much energy they are running about everywhere like little furry lunatic's. When I open my garden gate they come rushing towards me and screech on their brakes nearly landing in a heap at my feet, they all look up at me as if to say "what's for lunch mum" and "can we please have a hug". They are such a joy they really are!!!! Oh and nearly forgot the eggs are fantastic, so fresh and the yolks are so orange!! We call the eggs our wages!!!
Any questions please just ask. Please do not go out and get any before researching the breeds. Some breeds are more tame than others. Some hens are a lot smaller than others etc. So well worth doing your homework first. This is especially true of the type of housing to get and how to make it fox proof the best you can. We have done all of that so I am happy to point you in the right direction if you need any advice. Maybe others on board have hens too and would like to give advice also.
I can just imagine all these little hens and ducks on board our ship trying to stand upright if the sea gets a bit rough!!;)
Take care everyone!!
