Think I need to give my head a shake....I've only gone and paid my credit card twice this month!!

I clear the balance on payday and I've somehow done it on Friday and Monday! Good job it's only £66, will have to put any spends on the card until I recoup the payment as card now in credit ha ha

Have decided I probably won't be going shopping this weekend, don't seem to have used much food up this week and fridge still looks reasonably full

    Hiya all

    Welcome aboard Caterina!

Well folks I have managed to climb aboard NBI and diet boat today!

Yesterday evening with my friend's friends went well but the food showed a) why they are all overweight and b) constantly claim to be broke!! So it was HM bread + pickled herrings in sauce (L!dil but so much bought and not consumed!) + Roast chicken thighs and legs + roast (ish potatoes) and 3 asparagus spears each. Followed by a creamy pud (also bought not made)!

I sound ungrateful - I am not - it was a meal I did not pay for but it just emphasised that I no longer eat or buy like that! Thanks to my shipmates on here and their inspirational tales and help :A

Today (in a restaurant in St Ives)I had a roast butternut squash and roast beetroot salad with a little Feta cheese for lunch - oooooh I did enjoy the mixed leaves+ pea shoots and micro herbs and other veg! Never, in my life before, have I had a yearning for veg and a clean taste but I did today - so hopefully the healthy eating with lots of veg has become the norm for me rather than the fatty food of yesterday!! Ex paid for lunch so all I bought was car park fee £5 + £4.20 for a coffee each for me and DS's GF + entry to the Hepworth exhibition £12. i.e £21.20 for a whole day out! (Basically for two people - me and the GF) But despite great temptation in the lovely shops in St Ives (I know which ones have stuff from genuine Cornish producers rather than stuff from China and India) I did not buy anything to clutter up my life with!! :D

    Keep on NBIing folks! :j

    Thank you Lynplatinum!

I know what you mean about realising that some people eat a lot and generally consume unthinkingly and then whinge they are skint and unwell! I have been faced with well intentioned, friendly "hostility" both regarding living a frugal life and eating a (fairly) clean diet, sugar free and as natural/organic as my means permit. Lots of criticism and "friendly concern", from the very people who I know to waste money and indulge in junk food, then lament their skintness and unwellness.

This is why I love it here, where we can be open about our downfalls, celebrate each other's successes and stay (hopefully) non-judgemental.

I've been missing in action. I've been spending ( lots), been on holiday and generally loosing sight of my goal of paying off mortgage long before I finish work( hopefully in 10 years time). So it's time for me to get my head back in the game and start recording all spends again.
*holds head up, puffs out chest and shouts "game on!" In a convincing way!

    Ahoy all

busymum - that's what holidays are about as they said to me on here!! however we will help you haul yourself out of the water - having gone overboard!! We will help you dry out and feed you the equivalent of hot cocoa!!!:) We ve all fallen off at sometime. To paraphrase the Buddha 'It is not the falling off that matters - it is how we deal with climbing back on board' so what's your plan??

Today I spent again also but in my defence - I was sat in a queue o f cars which I know was at least 7 miles long (3rd queue that day) - and a left turn took me to the wonderful Bowgie Inn at Crantock - the best views ever plus good pub grub - and reasonable beer (CAMRA score out of 5 - I'd give it 3.5 which is good beer!) After an hour feeling very full and content I got back on the road and the queues had gone - much less stressful (but not exactly good for my purse £12.50 nor my diet - why isnt chips; gammon and chips low calorie??? Ok gammon not too bad!! And lunch had been a salad again!)

however, back on the normal food tomorrow as I am not going very far - I need a break from driving!!
Dog was very happy to see me and have another walkies when I got home but did not appear at all distressed - I got the impression she was quite glad to have had a chance to catch up on a nap! :)
    Take care all

Have now managed to claim back most of my volunteer travel expenses. Just waiting for one to go through. My plan is that after August, I want to cut back on the amount of voluntary work I do, as I need to have more time to work on the things I want to achieve within the next 5 years. One of them is to save up so that I can move away from the area that I am living at.

My Mum and I went to Clacton on Wednesday for a day trip. Was picked up from flat and dropped off there at end of day. It was a disablement association who does day trips in the summer. The minibus was full. Was very handy to take my Mum in her wheelchair. Did buy lunch there. Popped into M&S there to buy some muffins to go with the flask of coffee that we brought with us. Was cheaper than buying pudding there.

Resisted the urge for a takeaway again tonight.....not sure why but seem to be falling off the healthy eating wagon and craving crap at the minute :(

Definitely no food shopping needed this weekend :j have milk, yogurts, cheese, fruit and eggs still in fridge, lots in freezer and cupboards. have a butternut squash, tinned potatoes, tinned and frozen peas & sweetcorn so no need for veg.

Only thing I will need is cat treats, will call into local pet store to get them so not tempted by supermarket offers!

    otherwise purse is staying shut!

Good Evening chums.Well I had a £5.00 of a £40.00 shop voucher given to me to use up by Sunday at Lidls so I invested £35.23 to buy lots of bits for DGS Ben's return to Uni.

Rice pasta, tins and staples, so he will be able to get through until Christmas hopefully. I took the cash from my Happy Stash Cash so it doesn't come from my food purse. It will keep him happy and fed at least :):):).

I know he struggles on his grant and his Mum and Dad aren't very flush either bless them.I know he would never ask anyone for help as he is a great chap who knows how times are a bit lean for his parents, with another three boys younger than him to feed and clothe.
I decided that the money invested in his food cupboard is well spent as I'd only worry about him eating properly. I have set up a direct debit for £50.00 a month to go into his account every month to help streetch his finances a little, not a lot but I know he won't waste it.I've paid his rent for him for July and August as well, so he won't have to worry about it, his grant doesn't come through until early September.

Still I can't take it with me, and if it take a bit of worry off of him I don't mind.
I got an amazing amount of stuff for the money and was very pleased, his 'Ben Box' is filling up nicely at the moment.I also had a good rummage through my cupboards to see what tinned stuff I can put in there for him.Lidls had large 36 buscuit boxes of Weetabix on offer at £2.50 which I thought was good as its getting quite expensive to buy, and he really likes it, he's not keen on milk and crushes them up and sprinkles chopped bananas on top and eats them dry !!!.

He's never been keen on any dairy stuff, even as a small boy and will eat a sandwich without butter either :):):) no wonder he is so slim.

Tomorrow I am going to have a day where I do exactly what I feel like
My eldest DGS Danny gave me a boxed set of True Detective to watch so I shall be doing that and knitting for most of the day:)
Hope you all have a good weekend
    cheers chums
