NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday
Comments
-
Hi guys
I tend to think that we're sometimes too critical of ourselves when we buy something when we're supposed to be watching the pennies or make something nice when we're supposed be watching our weight.
When you read through our posts we're all very good at doing the above, and encouraging each other. But like everyone else we deserve a treat EVERY NOW AND THEN, and that's the difference between us and the majority of our friends and colleagues.
Very rarely do we purchase on impulse, and if we do its normally something that will improve our well being or lives immensely, it's also likely to be an item that will last for years. It's also normally paid for with CASH not credit. Our friends think nothing of buying the latest upgrade because they want it, or buy a holiday on the credit card while moaning they are poor!
As for the sweet treats, we've all cut back on what we buy, if we're not growing it we're getting it from lidl, aldi or the local market, we're not out at sainsbobs every week filling our trolling with crap and throwing most of it in the bin on Friday so we can go shopping again on Saturday for more. If we want sweet stuff we make it, and when it's gone we make do with fresh fruit again.
And why am I on my soap box this morning and trying to make myself feel better? After a year  of deliberating and wishing, I went out yesterday and bought a new bike and all accessories :rotfl: spent a blinking fortune lol0 -

Ahoy there
Permission to get back on board!! Please??
boultdj - thanks for your support - I have given away most of the brownies as a 'Thank you' to the friend of my son's who looked after my house while I was away. So that is most of the problem solved and it was cheaper than buying something (I usually give him some beers) so this was NBI!!
PM2326 - brilliant - a bike is an investment - in economy; health; and yourself! It will get you out and about with nature. Good for you giving yourself such a present! :T
Have eaten better today and only bought a small loaf of bread - I had been hoping for a YS tbh but no luck - felt quite virtuous as I did not give in to temptation and buy anything else - the only YS item was a caramel cake (zillions of calories!) SO hopefully I can repair the damage of the other day to the diet!
Jackie O I am still on windos 2003 as well! Hope my computer holds out - enjoy your new one - hope your hols are going well!
Sailing into reclaiming seas this week - few students around so I am planning to 'go to work' in another way to 'earn' money! wish me luck sailing on those choppy seas! :A Nite all!Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

I work for an extremely well known international branded company who is thought of as being ahead of the game......however our computers at work are running on windows 2003 and if we install anything newer most of the systems won't work :rotfl:0 -
pm2326,well said.We are all old hands at this NBI lark now, which enables us to enjoy spending on life enhancing things.Well done all sailors.I am saving for a new vacc by doing carbootsales so in effect it will cost nothing.

I'm running XP on a 2002 'pooter and it's fine. My Pooter Wizard, an IT pro, ran 1998 well into the second decade of this millenium, he reckoned subsequent Windoze iterations hadn't much to recommend them and was positively disdainful of Win 8. But he prefers L*nux on his own time.
Made out like a bandit at YS time yesterday afternoon, so shouldn't need to shop for food, between that and the allotment, for the remainder of the week. Will aim to keep well away from the shops, you go in on a perfectly innoncent errand, such as milk or bread, and things just throw themselves into your basket or trolley as if they have wills of their own.Umm, I guess that's just happening to me, then?
Other than that, I am suffering from complete indifference to shopping. Haven't even been drawn into Poondlandia to see what's new or up to the bootsales. Am busily thinning out my belongings and getting happier with every exit and not wanting to add anything into the home.
I've taken up minimalism as a hobby, it's the pefect pastime for someone with a small home. Found this blog yesterday for the first time, she's a fellow Brit and I'm highly impressed thus far: https://minimalistexposure.wordpress.com/Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

OOo Grey Queen I love that kettle. My OH thinks I am ill as the last few times I have gone shopping I have bought nothing -not a single thing. I didn't even have a cup of tea yesterday in Aberdeen. Got really excited at the boxes my new DIL was recycling when she unwrapped her wedding presents. No wonder J L*wis is so expensive they put things in really pretty boxes. Now these hold my socks and undies and jumpers. Garden here is doing great and will be blanching peas and beans tonight. Strawberries were very small this year but loads of them. The red currants are looking good and I promise myself I will not leave them in the freezer for a whole year before I do something with them as I did this year. Off to the Keith Show this morning and it looks as tho it's going to be hot again today.0

Nanny I want to get a Mac Air book laptop. She can still get her student discount for one more month, so got it all at almost £120 off.
and I also did get £120.00 discount as we got her student discount knocked off my lap top as well so.
Hmmmm.... Apple RIGIDLY enforce limits per student on Educational hardware. To buy 2 laptops from the same Apple store on the same day with the same educational discount account is rather errr.... luckyas in at least 15 years I've never known it to happen. I think you need to check your receipt to see if you did actually get the discount you think you got.
Here's the official blurb....
2.8 The following quantity limits per academic school year apply to purchases on the Apple Online Store for Education:
- Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
- Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
- Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
- Display: A maximum of two (2) may be purchased per academic year
- Software: A maximum of two (2) per software title may be purchased per academic year
- Apple TV: There is no limit on the quantity of Apple TV purchases per academic year
- iPod: There is no limit on the quantity of iPod purchases per academic year
The above quantity limits apply to purchases of Apple products with a dedicated education discount on the Apple Online Store for Education, Apple on Campus Online Stores, Apple Authorised Resellers or Apple Retail stores.0 -

Glad you liked it.
A few years back, I read a post by kittie about how you don't need to blanch veg. I just pod/ slice as applicable, open freeze on trays and then bag when frozen. Have the veg (runners and broads and peas and carrots) keep in perfect condition for 12 months. Saves no end of time and some fuel for your cooker, too. HTH.Actually, that reminds me; I have a collapsable blanching basket I don't use because I don't blanch any more. Silly me, that can go off to the chazzer, too. Result!
Have dealt with an admin matter the same day as the item came through the post, so that can go for shredding (the confidential bit) and recycling (the bumph). Better than shuffling it from A to B and having the nagging little voice at the back of my head that I should deal with it before it gets used as a coaster and acquires mug rings........... been there, done that, got the teeshirt.
Righty, off to do a little webcrawling (like surfing but more lanquid and less gainly) and have a cuppa. I may even resort to doing the dishes at some point.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hiya all
GQ - what a fab site!!! could have spent all nite on there but am trying to get to bed earlish tonight! LOL
Have finally done my reclaiming bank fees letter (on the reclaiming bit at the top tabs of this site). Took ages to find bank statements since 2008!! Needed to have a through dust around after that cos those are decks of the old ship that havent been visited for ages!! Took a long while!! (although Im an inveterate filer!!) Should yield £1500 aprox (inc interest - if I get it) so I am looking at it as a half a day spent earning money :rotfl:
Have also been busy paying bills/gardening/putting tumble dryer for sale notice in my local shop (I bought it when both boys moved back home for a year and have only used it twice since they moved out! Honest!) and ate SWorld food and did Yoga - so feeling v virtuous and havent spent a penny piece - and hopefully earned £1660 (asking £160 for t dryer) :j Is there going to be a giant storm or something tonight?? :rotfl:
Zero waste is v difficult to do - although I have say I havent used plastic bags for years and have clothes and kitchen equipment that is well over 20 years old!!! Loaned a friend one of my boxes to transport cakes and she asked where I got it from - I had to think and then realised I had bought it 23 years ago when I first got divorced!! :T
Have got more stuff lined up for tomorrow so need brain to be working!! :A hence early bed tonight! Off to me hammock!Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
