Hi everyone
Sorry I have not been on board ship for a bit!! I suffer with Menieres Disease and have had several long bouts of vertigo lately and now wobbling all over the place!!! Having an operation on Saturday so hoping that will improve things and get me back to posting on a more regular basis like I did before the Menieres flared up again!!! Will try and go back and catch up with all the news on ship before I go in on Saturday and whilst recovering at home over the next couple of weeks!!
Little Langley is still doing ok and mixing in very well!!! We did loose one of our other rescue hens a couple of weeks ago. She was rather frail and looking old even though she was only just over 3 years old, bless her. Just found her one morning when we went to let them all out. Went in her sleep which was nicer for her!!! Bless her again!!!
Will catch up with you all soon!!!! I hope you understand why I have not been posting at all!! Just a difficult time to deal with for myself and my hubby!!!
Have a lovely day everyone whatever you are doing!!!
Edwink x
Hi Edwink - just wanted to say I have that meniers too and it's awful when it starts! I have had grommets put in my ear and it's helped with the pressure massively. I have had 2 short term and 1 long term in and it's made such a difference to me.Living the simple life0 -
Hi Guys
Having a really bad time at the moment. Firstly both kids are taking important exams at the mo so there is the expense of revision guides. Had to get two on Ama$on they came to just under £20 Couldn't get free postage so hade to make that up with something small.
Then DD gave a small memory album for my Birthday last Friday. All the latest pics of DS show him in either Scout uniform of the same shirt , realised he only has one shirt so tried to order one save going to the shops , but the order didn't go through so will have to buy one next time I am shopping anyway. I have also brought a gorgeous shrub, at a local garden show yesterday for the garden which needs to go in today.
To cap it all DS phone has finally given up the ghost so I will have to replace that, after his exams.
On the plus side I have found the bottom of the freezer, Hopefully I can defrost that soon. So onwards and upwards.0 -
Ah the wretched exam time looms my DGS Jack (15) has his science GCSE's this week so he is nose down in books atm.I will be making him some of his favourite victoria jam sponges as he says it fuels his brains
:):) Yeah right
But he is a good boy when it comes to studying and likes to put the effort in, as good results gets him a bonus from me when he gets his results:):) £10.00 for each A-C he gets, Jack being a canny lad works his socks off, as he is saving for a lap-top
.
Good job he has a frugal Granny:):)
Have a great day whatever you are doing

Hi shipmates. Welcome newbies & huggs to those that need them.
I have been missing for awhile as RL was getting in the way, but I have still been reading along.
I am still not buying it. Every purchase is carefully considered. We have not saved much the last couple of months as we have had a few expenses, but we have managed to not break in to the emergency fund so that's great.
I am at the minute trying to empty the freezer for defrosting, but have loads of odd stuff. As there is 3 of us if somethings in a 4 pack 1 is left over. I think I need to do a couple of meals where we all eat different things!
Hoping to spend a few hours in the garden today. Hope to get a few more veg seeds in. Herbs & radish doing great. Leeks & lettuce just coming through. No sign of beans yet though.
Bye for now. HHxWe WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j0 -
Still NBI here. I've been through my summer clothes today, and I have plenty to wear, including items I had forgotten about. I have lots of layers and no need to buy anything.
I've just done a small shop in Morrisons, using a £5 points voucher, and only had to add 25p. I had bought reduced price chicken portions and turkey steaks a few days ago, so under £10 in total for the week. And the freezer is full.
I hope you're well, Slowdown, if you're reading this. So many of us are grateful to you for starting the Good Ship NBI on its journey! Maybe when you get to the summer break, you'll be better placed to give us an update. But in the meantime, I hope the rigours of work are not too overwhelming and you're managing to stay afloat.0 -
Thanks for the welcome aboard folks. Am on page 45 now.....don't want to miss anythin .
Know these posts were a while back - but in the nature of joining in.....
Am a 90% grey girl if didn't use semi perm. Asked OH what he thought I would look like with natural colour.....'an old woman'. Huh.....I am mid fifties, lol.
OH is a 'spender'. Oh ye Gods....never looks for any type of bargain. Trying to train him......having no luck.
A few of my favourite things.....a walk on the beach or in a forest...must be quiet time....don't do noise or crowds.
A good book, radio, natural history programme, cup of coffee and a natter. CHOCOLATE.
Goes without saying, family, OH and my 2 darling wee dogs of course. All make life better, brighter and blessed.
The older I get the less I understand the kerfuffle about 'big' everything...house, car, holiday etc. Who cares? Healthy ( as possible), happy, content, kindness etc do it for me. And I am not a saint btw.
Hope to continue reading and staying on board. Any other forums, sites in a similar vein fellow sailors recommend? Nothing heavy, political, need a degree in economics to read. Just good old fashioned common sense and fun stuff.
Bye for now0 -
Desperately trying to avoid spending but the spindle on our ancient Magimix 2800 Grande Cuisine food processor has snapped and we can't track down a replacement spindle anywhere. How infuriating when a good piece of equipment has to be replaced for the sake of one small component part which is unobtainable !! It's only 30 years old too !0

I had believed that my freezer did not have a bottom but I may have finally found it but we still have to have some more "interesting" meals in the next two weeks if it is to get completely empty.
The freezer is a really useful thing but I do find that when I get near the bottom, I have to be very firm with myself to completely clear it. By the looks of things, several others are trying the same thing.
I hereby pledge to NOT buy too much food that ends up unwanted at the bottom of the freezer!!
Since getting back from our trip, I have had loads of problems with my digestive system. Got a couple of hospital appointments this week so I really hope they come up with some new ideas.
Our next "forgetting 60th Birthday" trip is in two weeks. We are staying in a gypsy style caravan for 5 days in Arras. This should be a much more frugal one as I plan to take most of our food with us. Looking forward to waking up in a forest with fresh bread etc on the step for breakfast!!
So NBI continues so we can manage these little trips away.
I hope all are enjoying the cruise of the our good ship

Hey guys
I just posted this on the greenfingered section but was hoping some of you may have some ideas as I don't really want to spend a lot of money
'I have 2 concrete washing post in my garden which don't get used and are an eyesore!
Last year I managed to disguise one of them by turning an old unused compost bin upside down and sliding it down the post, I then planted my eucalyptus tree in it. I keep the tree to the height of the post so now you can't see it anymore
This year I need to do something with the other post. I was thinking of trying to grow blackberries up the post but I'm not sure if a) it would work and b) what I could use as a pot as needs to have a hole in the middle which is at least 8 inches wide.
I had considered an old tyre but I can't get my hands on one and I don't think it would be deep enough anyway. I'd rather not plant it straight into the ground if possible.
Any ideas?'
Just to add....I have an old plastic planter lying around but the base is solid and I can't work out how I would cut the whole in it without damaging it.
Thanks0 -
Blackberries like to spread out if given the choice, a kiwi, honeysuckle, jasmine, passion flower or a rose might be more suited to grow 'up' the post.hth
Drill holes in the base of the tub, put a block of wood under it to stop the base from flexing and splitting.£71.93/ £180.000
