I've decided to treat myself to a rather expensive winter coat this year, I've been wanting one for a few years, I've done all the research and it'll be worth the expense in the long run as it should last 10 years + if I look after it.

Challenge is to not put it on the credit card or use my savings so I'm going to try and raise the funds by selling things I already own but no longer use.

To start me off I've just listed 100 magazines on eBay...they sell for £3-£4 each so I'm hoping this will start me off nicely!

Of course if the gods are smiling down on me and I manage to sell them all I'll have paid for the coat and have a bit to put towards my savings :rotfl:
  • Welcome 1Hannah & other newbies.

What a great idea pm2326. That's really planning your purchases.

I've cleaned the house today and its so much easier and quicker without the clutter around. I'm also keeping up with odd jobs as I go along. Today whilst ironing I noticed a hem was coming loose so sewed It straight away. This all clears my mind somehow, as I don't have constant jobs list going round my head.

    Have a good week all.
We WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j

Blimey pm2326 - what mags are they??? I have a pile (mostly Country L!ving) and was gonna declutter and donate to the local docs but if they could make even a bit of dosh???? how much p&p do you charge per mag - if I may ask?

Suki - how rotten for you - Im guessing theft would not be covered on house insurance? Or that the bit you have to pay first is too big or that the premiums would go up too far. My friend, who lives in a remote village in Cornwall laughs @ me when I put the 'Crook lock' on my car @ her house but here (Buckinghamshire) it is a habit - the little rotters will steal someone else's car rather than have to spend ages cutting the crook lock off. As I was heading to my car one evening I heard a conversation to that effect just before I rounded the corner into the car park. I retreated, after peaking round the corner. I rang the police on my mobile but they never caught the little *****!

They should try working hard as we do - either by a job or by NBI or Make do Minimising and Mending or (in my case) all three - instead they feel they have some kind of entitlement and, one lad I taught informed me, that, theiving didnt matter because 'you rich people are all covered by insurance' I soon put him right by explaining and making him calculate insurance premiums!!

Anyway in the NBI spirit - have one cupboard left to go in my great turn out!! then off the wall they come!! Cant wait!

Thankyou all for your kind words over our "theft"

It turns out it was never stolen :o

First thing we did when we saw it was gone was check with the neighbours that no one had borrowed it. Like I say we live in the sticks, just a hamlet of 8 houses and we all borrow from each other, helping ourselves if no one is in. No one had borrowed it

So we reported it to the police, they came out, took a statement, finger printed the gates and put it out on their newsfeed

Yesterday morning was spent securing the garage and shed ( hateful job as like I say we are used to people letting themselves in) then we went out to replace the lawnmower

Pulled into the shop and the mower mechanic was there and said " you here about your mower." Hubby says we are here to buy one cos ours was stole "stole?" He says, "that's yours there" pointing out our mower

Turns out, the lass next door had rang for hers to be taken in for service and they lifted ours instead :rotfl:

So alls well, we have lawnmower back and faith restored :)

I rang the police back to let them know and they laughed nearly as much as me over it all

It's strange seeing locks everywhere, doesn't sit right with me. Like I said before I think nothing of leaving the doors open if I have to be out for a while and the dog is alone so he can go out when he needs to. Even the postman knows not to ring, just open the door and leave the post in the lobby. But the police and insurance company have advised us it's to be done because even though this time it was a false alarm, we may not be so lucky in future

They are specialist cross stitch magazines....one is selling at £4.50 at the minute :T

I usually charge £1.50 postage just so it appeals to buyers and undercuts others :D , I normally have to put a bit towards it but I'm not bothered along as they sell.

You could search for your mags on eBay and check the sold listings to see if they'd make you any money.

Suki, I read your post at lunchtime and couldn't help but to start sniggering :rotfl:

Yesterday and today have both been no spend days, though I was tempted.

Have been thinking about buying obelisks for the garden, and may do so at some time, but for now, I'm tying together a number of bamboo canes instead, should do the job (it has in e past) and isn't costing me anything.

  • Whooops Suki :-) Glad alls well that ends well! am also glad the police saw the funny side of it and were OK about it. round here they would be likely to charge you with wasting police time!! Dont get me started!! (the things they have not turned out for when called - the worst possibly was when my son was attacked (an attempted mugging but he fought them off) and it took the police 3 days to come out and interview him!)

So saying one of the best people who helped run the Scouts was a policeman!!

Ta PM - I will look at mags! I never realised you could sell them!

I was NBI today - I had a bit of a difficult day today and was v tempted to get a take away but instead I came home, had a crumpet and ate that while the gammon joint baked in the oven!! Now have lovely ham for rest of the week and some to freeze. :-) Am patting self on back! LOL

I'm not sure if anyone can help. I'm trying to find what a v on your credit score means. We are just returning a vehicle to the finance company as is allowed in the contract .we have never had any payment issues and you can do this in the terms of the agreement. However I note,we have to sign to say we will have a V marked against our credit score. I don't understand as its not being returned because we can't afford it but it is too small for our needs
