    Hi all

Glad you are all doing so well, we had some snow overnight here in Hemel Hempstead, all gone now though. My son and daughter-in-law live in Wales and have hens, a donkey, goat and three dogs. Quite funny when they go on holiday and I go there to look after them all! I am sure the hens deliberately refuse to go in their house at night `cos it`s me :) They do go in eventually and are all characters.
When to cinema with DD and sister before she goes home to Ireland tomorrow, seen Testament of Youth. Excellent and only £3.95 on a Tuesday at local Empire Cinema.
Used up eggs, boiled potatoes cheese and a slice of ham and made a fritta for tea.
    Keep warm everyone.
Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.

My problem then is just keeping the search on track rather than realising three hours later I have fifteen tabs open!

117Pauline....that is sooo me. Most of my 15 tabs would have nothing to do with food either, I'm so easily distracted :rotfl: Thanks for the heads up ref tax rebate, I read it on here a while back and managed to claim for it and the previous two years

Turtle... Welcome aboard shipmate, there's always a spare hammock for new friends :)

Katkin... I love your chair, you must be chuffed every time you look at it. Any more projects on the go?

1of3... A big :T:T:T for clearing the CC

Candygirl... Good luck for tomorrow, I hope the day flys by and you don't worry too much and the little one is back home as soon as possible.

Busymotpd... Congrats that must be a brill feeling. You need to keep a running total of all the time and interest you're saving, it would be brill to look back on now and again.

As for me it's all ticking along nicely. Today is my 3rd NSD and I'm hoping tomorrow will be as well. It's still bitter up here but thankfully no snow yet.

I've heard a lot about banana loaves, can anyone post a recipe? Is it more like a cake (just add custard type of thing) or is it more like a loaf that you have to slice and butter?

Well off now for a bath before starting nights, fingers crossed the snow stays away :o

  • Loving the hen story's.
Busy day here as its my day off. Lots of cleaning & updating DH accounts (self employed)
Was going to add new knickers to my shopping list as I am fed up of loose elastic! But then this thread jumped into my head and "I'm not buying it" So went to sort out undies drawer to see what I could find. I found loads I had forgotten about. Decided I will wear them all in turn and throw out the worst offenders. How many do I actually need. Before joining this thread I would have just thrown them all out and started again!
Had a big spend on groceries yesterday £52, but got enough cleaning & washing stuff now to last all February.
We WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j

  • Evening shipmates

After a fairly good January I hope I can manage an equaly good February.

Not much planned spend-wise at the moment besides food. Well, will invite my sister for sushi on Friday, that was actually our plan for New Years Eve, but then she was so tired that we postponed it. And will need a few bits and bobs for a present for a friend.

I was thinking long and hard of a nice birhtday present for my Granny. I then remembered that she loves my cross stitching, so I turned a picture into a pattern and won't have to buy anything beside a frame. But will have to work quite hard these next five weeks.
When I got the fabric and treads together I noticed that I'm running low on my favourite stitchin fabric. But ordering it would cost 9€ in shipping.... So this is postponed until the point where I will NEED anything else from there. At the moment I have so many half done projects that I really don't need any more.

Ems, I think there is nothing bad in buying things for others as long these are things needed/wanted and no just something that will end up in a corner.

Buysmum and boultdj well done on overpaying!

    have a nice evening everyone!

I have a fleece that is similar, I purchased it in 1999, and it has just gone on and on, I've worn it on highland treks, to the other side of the world, on many dive boats, and for the last 14 winters at home. Still it goes on without a hole or sign of wear. It got me wondering how many of you had items like that? If I may name drop, the waterproof of my husbands was GAP & my fleece Karimor. I can highly recommend both.

I have a disgustingly tatty navy quilted anorak i wore on my honeymoon about 48 years which is now only suitable for grubby gardening chores and fence staining. I look like a tramp in it but it is far too sentimental to throw away.

    Hi all,

I've had a NSD today, but under the worst circumstances. My grandad died this afternoon, so I cancelled dinner plans. I work for a council and they don't consider grandparents to be immediate relatives, so I'm only entitled to one day off for the funeral. My gran also died 11 weeks ago and I rushed back to work and ended up completely burnt out and not coping after a few weeks, so I will be going to doctor tomorrow to see about having some time off now. I'm 21 weeks pregnant too, so the added hormones don't help.

    :(
I'm still feeling inspired by everyone, ive definitely been more mindful of any possible but avoidable spending xx

:) Hi Lilliyanna, this is the recipe I use. I used it with half the quantities this time (but kept both eggs) and SR flour instead of plain and baking powder and it worked brilliantly. You get a dense, moist loaf-shaped cake. Putting butter on it would be a bit OTT (in my opinion) but whatever floats your boat. Also nice sliced with custard.

To make 2 banana loaves in 2lb loaf tins.

    1. Grease loaf tins with butter.

    2. Peel and mash 8 over-ripe bananas in a large bowl.

    3. Melt a 250g pat of butter in a saucepan and combine with bananas with a wooden spoon.

    4. Mix in 1.5 cups of sugar and 2 teasp of vanilla extract with 2 beaten eggs and add to the mixture.

    5. Sprinkle on 2 teasp of baking powder (leave out if using SR flour) and a pinch of salt.

    6. Fold in 3 cups flour to make a sloppy batter.

    7. Divide equally into the 2 loaf tins and bake at Gas 4 for 60 mins.

    8. Put tins on baking rack to cool and before entirely cool, run a knife around inside tins to loosen loaf, turn out onto the cooling rack and allow to finish cooling.

    9. At about 30 mins into the cooking process, when the lovely aroma percolates thru the house, barricade the kitchen door to keep the rest of the family scoffing the lot before it cools.

    10. Can be frozen successfully in a placcy bag.

    :) Hope you like it.
