Good evening Shipmates.
I am exhausted, I was going to dig and clear the garden today as the weather was so nice, but mice have been in my shed so it was a mammoth decluttering of said shed. Any way I have got rid of two bin bags of broken plastic for the recycling and a quantity of damp garden lime and sulphate of potash. The damp box of compost maker went on the compost heap. I then found that the mice had also knawed their way into the rat and mouse poison , silly beggars. I have washed a quantity of pots and seed trays and put all the bird feed into strong plastic boxes with lids.
The shed floor is no swept and much tidier now all the toot has been disposed of.
I have also replaced straps on two PVC aprons and I now have a bin bag of stuff for the cs tomorrow.0 -
Well, I had a positively lovely walk. There were lots of walkers in the forest and together with the sunshine it made for a pleasant few hours. I stopped at a hostelry half way and sat outside with a grand pint of ale and a packet of peanuts. Lovely! Didn't mind being on my own and when I looked around the were several individual people, mostly men, enjoying a quiet lunchtime drink in the fresh air.
Finished the ironing and off to make tomorrow's lunches and this evening's meal from leftovers.
Tried to avoid monkey chatter on my walk but as I'd had an update from a colleague earlier it was easier said than done. Still, at least I know it's the emotional chimp talking and not the sensible me!
Happy Sunday everyone.
Kind regards

Anyone know who else other than Farmfoods sell the Nicky Elite loo rolls please. We don't have a FF anywhere close but so have most of the other SM's.
Ches
Have a look at this old MSE Thread about loo rolls - allot of Nicky fans on that as well. Also you can get them from Waitrose but not sure how good their pricing is compared to say Home Bargains and Farm Foods:-

Hi all,
Firstly, thanks to Islandmaid for your taste of home suggestion!
I'm still reading through all of the posts from page 144 and will catch up tomorrow!
DH and I popped into L!dl for the first time in a long time yesterday after I had finished work and I'm afraid to say that I absolutely hated it. The shop was so hard to navigate and it wasn't clear what prices matched what. The shop was so messy and disorganised, and the bits that we did pick up weren't much cheaper than our usual SM so I won't be converting to them anytime soon. I wish we had a local Ald! to try.
It should be a low spend this week although we will have to stock up on our fortnightly petrol fill up £40ish on Friday.
I hope you all have a great week!0 -
I'm doing OK with NBI I think, made more soup which both DD and I take for lunches at work so we're both saving there
DD also makes a vat of cheesy tuna or bacon pasta which gets bunged in the freezer for lunches too, so plenty of variety. It's having the added bonus that the hot soup/pasta is filling so I'm much less likely to raid the chocolate machine for pudding :T
Spent a bit yesterday on train fares to go and see Mum but that's a necessary - I could drive but I hate the M25 so I'd rather pay for the luxury of taking the train, and reading a book en route instead of stressing in a giant queue
I'm trying to have a clear out, having been reading the Kon Marie thread, and today sent a box of books to Zapper so I should get a cheque for those soon :T
I'm struggling to spend Christmas money too - OH keeps suggesting things but I don't need anything and it seems mad to buy more stuff while clearing out. Maybe I could treat us to a weekend away
What a month this is turning out to be - I had no idea at Christmas that I would spend January sorting and de-cluttering and developing an entirely new outlook on life :T

Hi I am so enjoying reading about you all. I must say I too have had the imagining in my head what to say or do next time a certain person (still ongoing) makes a comment etc. in my company (voluntary work a few hours a week with some lovely people all volunteers too and the bully who runs the place ) it has caused me upset and grief and she really is a horribly nosy and nasty woman and I have seriously felt like leaving, which I don't want to do really so am glad to read there are many others who feel the same way and do what I do
thank you so much for that I feel better now about it. Margaret x
Do a little kindness every day.;)0 -

Evening shipmates. Yes I saw Nicky in Savers today - £3.95 for 18 rolls but didn't notice if they are the Elite ones - but hoping to pick some up later this week anyway as down to 2 1/2 rolls of toilet roll and don't want to run out and use tissues or kitchen paper! I'm yet another one who runs through conversations through my head - usually to do with work. I have to admit over the last week I have been trying to forget about work when I get home, and not think about what has been said/what I should have said. I even used to go to sleep thinking about what I needed to do in the work the next day but have stopped that now! I have taken some inspiration from this thread and de-cluttered a box and bag that have been lying around in my dining room for ages - and funny old thing most of it ended up in the bin! And I am also another one who finds it difficult to spend birthday/Christmas money and vouchers. I have cash and several vouchers stashed in the kitchen cupboard which I should use to treat myself with. But like so many others on this thread say, when you are trying to declutter you don't want to bring more stuff in to your house! Anyway, enough drivel from me, and I really must try to post more often.0

What ho me hearties!
Something currently shaping my thinking is down to a more tragic circumstance. My friends DD aged 27 is terminally ill with cancer. She is in hospital, dosed to the eyeballs to keep the pain at bay, head shaved and painfully thin. She has 2 young children and the whole story is incredibly tragic. It is the same cancer my DH was diagnosed with five years ago. He had a relapse 18 months later but has since been healthy. I can only feel like we are the luckiest people on earth at the moment as this type of melanoma is an aggressive killer and my advice to all is get that us cream and those glasses on. A tan is not worth it.
I'm really sorry if I have upset anyone by mentioning this. It's just that it has made me understand that life is short and you simply don't want to fill it with useless stuff when you could be filling it with beautiful moments with your loved ones, with nature and with yourself.
I work in Oncology and the waiting area for patients is just outside my office. If I'm having a bad day, just walk out and the the kids playing, or a young couple, anyone... puts my troubles in to perspective. Puts everything back in to focus. Similarly it's about quality of life. What we do should be working towards improving the quality of our lives or the lives of others (that is I don't mind putting myself out for someone else - it's not all about me) I also remind myself, expensive car/house/etc.. does not improve the quality of my life or my happiness, that comes from within.
It also constantly reminds me that some people are ill because of lifestyle choices, others it's just random bad luck. It focuses my mind that really I should do everything I can to avoid the lifestyle choice illnesses (eat healthy/exercise/not smoke/etc...).
You are lucky that he's healthy - enjoy it, every day!0 -
I've had a good no-spendy weekend, the only thing bought was a loaf of bread yesterday. Visited the library and took some books back and borrowed a couple more. I borrowed Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies by Hilary Mantel a week or so ago, having read about the new TV series. I'm about halfway through WH and really enjoying it.
A couple of years ago I would have just bought them automatically, without ever thinking about the possibility of borrowing them. Joining the library was one of the first changes I made to my spending habits. I love books and one of my favourite places was Borders, I used to wander round on a Saturday morning gathering an armful of books. It's not for want of trying on my part that Borders went bust! And quite a few of the piles of books that I bought are still sitting on my shelves, unread. Borrowing from the library, knowing that the books have to be returned, actually makes me read more. Plus hopefully helping to keep my local library in business and the librarians in work. Now if I want to read a book, I check to see if I can borrow it. If not, can I get it second hand/cheap on Kindle? And only if all else fails, and only if I really, REALLY want that book, will I shell out for a new copy.
Hope it's a good NBI week for everyone.Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.Oliver Sachs 20150
