Spent £8 on top up stuff but had a nice low bill for my car at the garage. Was expecting it to need front disc`s as well as brake pads but it didn`t so very happy with that. My son is taking over the car in April when my insurance runs out as I can no longer afford one. As he lives locally I will still be able to use it though less frequently. Might get me back in the habit of walking which will be good for meMake £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.0

I used to work at a Register Office and birth, marriage and death certificates are not valid if they are laminated. So please don't do that otherwise your hard earned money will be wasted.Fashion on a ration 0 of 660 -

The moral of this story being, if you are lucky enough to still have small family-run shops where you are, please support them. And resist the siren voices that tell you that big name shopping centres & supermarkets will attract more business; maybe it will, but only to itself.but recently bought Seville oranges for marmalade there. Unsurprisingly the oranges were amazing! And had a lovely chat about marmalade making with the stall owner....just wouldn't get that in a supermarket.
On the subject of taxes ,our little local coffee shop near work has a sign saying 'great coffee & we pay our taxes'Last time I went in they gave me free samosas...again wouldn't get that in Starbucks

Hi everyone!
Spent a body shop voucher this week and had a money off coupon as well which covered all of the cost so although I've brought more stuff into the flat, I didn't spend money on it as such!
DH has agreed to let me sell some of his PS4 games which should fetch a bit of money as they are quite new titles so that'll be more money in the holiday pot.
We had a reasonable shop in S'burys last night to pick up some essentials, although a reduced box of Roses might've fallen in the basket...
DH has a half day today so I'm not sure what the afternoon will entail but I know we'll have to buy some oil to cook roast potatoes in as we have run out and I'll need some bread for work at the weekend.
Keep up the good work guys - you're all doing great!0 -
Hi all,
NSD today, woke early to videocall DS1 its his 21st today, he was already at work... Will speak to him properly later.
Have baked biscuits and bread rolls today, also made a big batch of sweet potato soup for lunch - I,ve got the builders in, finishing the en suite, its my Hubby and his 'lads' - bribing them with HM goodies to hurry it upNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

I'm proud of myself today - had to go into town before work, walked past Pret saying to myself 'No you don't need to buy a brew you can make one at work'. Then past Fat Face 'No you don't need to look, you have enough clothes'. Then into M&S 'No you've planned tonight's tea from the freezer, you don't need to see if there's anything yummy'. Allowed myself a bar of chocolate covered marzipan for 80p for being such a good girl and resisting everything else:rotfl:
So clearly I'm not quite there yet but I'm on the right road!
About Kon Marie - have looked at the thread on here and a couple of YouTube videos it linked to. It all seems very sensible, but are her clients really getting rid of more than half of their 'stuff'? I thought I was pretty good at clearing stuff out, in fact Mum won't let me near her stuff 'cos I'm 'too ruthless' :rotfl:but even I can't believe that half of what I own won't be useful in future even if I don't use it right now!

Permission to clamber aboard?? First ever post on any forum ever, so it feels like the first day of school all over again!
I've been reading this thread from day one and it's totally struck a chord. Now I'm getting older(48 next b'day!) my outlook and priorities have changed. I don't need or want endless stuff, what brings me joy is my family and friends! So while I will spend money socialising and quality time with hubby, frivolous spending is for the chop!
It's been easy so far, what with the rubbish weather, mountains of sales tat which I can't be doing with anyway plus a fridge full of xmas goodies!! But come spring and that will be when the fun starts!!
Working in retail( a large supermarket ) I get to see mass consumerism at its best,or worse depending on your view point!!
Keep sailing straight and true captain!!!0 -
Afternoon all,
SavingQueen, I like your description immensely, it's a brilliant metaphor for our journey
Shifts have finally finished and my nights were changed to days so I'd finished at 5pm yesterday and not 7am this morning. That means we were able to take the S-i-L out for diner last night and wake up at an early hour this morning fresh as a daisy, well maybe not the OH but then a bottle and a half of red will do that for you :rotfl: It feels like we've been given an extra day off !!
As we were up so early we'd done all the cleaning and put the washing in and were out of the house by 11am, usually were only just getting up at 1am. We had a stroll round town and window shopped a lot, the OH was desperate to go in their favourite clothes shop as it has all it's colourful sales posters in the windows. I literally had to drag OH from the door way telling them if they declutter their wardrobes then I'll be happy for them to sales shop. This is a ploy as I know full well the OH will not declutter anything till I strong arm them into doing it!!!
We've managed to switch our phone and broadband last week to BT which will gives superfast fibre optic BB and save us money. Just to make sure we weren't tied into a contract with Sky for the phone the OH rang them up to check. We explained we were more than happy with our Sky package but the chap on the phone still gave us £10 off and a new box!! This was very good of them the only problem is we have about 80hrs recorded on the old sky box to watch before we can swap them over. The OH now wants to sit around watching all the Sky catch up over our days off and I can't really argue as I've recorded most of them.....it's a hard life! At least we won't be out and about spending anything.
Whilst in town we made an appointment with Santander to open one of their 123 accounts. I think it's the right move for us, does anyone have any experience with them, good or bad??
I see Aldi have sweet potatoes on offer this week so I think I will cook a large batch of sweet potato mash and freeze it. I've heard people mix in a certain percentage of standard potato to make it go further so will give this a go.
The weather outside is blustery and cold but the ship is holding straight and trueHappy sailing shipmates.

I have received just over £17.00 for 8 books I traded in on Amazon. Just waiting for the code for the extra £5.00 credit to come through.
Went to get my shopping this morning. Did very well and only went into Aldi and Asda and only came out with what was on my list.
Have started Slimming World online and lost 2lbs this week making a total loss so far since October of 15lbs so my next task will be to start sorting out my clothes. Pretty sure that I'll have enough summer stuff to avoid buying any this year. Anyway there is only so much anybody can wear especially if like me you have to wear a uniform on the 3 days you work. Am also thinking that if I prune what I have the stuff I keep and really like will get worn more.
I did buy 2 balls of mohair yarn at my WI on Monday for 50p each and I think that I'll make a lightweight scarf with it.
Keep up the good work. We all seem to be making good headway.0
