I have been into Next more recently, but that was only to show hubby exactly which fragrance to buy for my birthday in a couple of weeks time! I like their Just Pink fragrance and it is so much cheaper than buying branded perfumes. Someone said to try a lidl fragrance once, but whenever I remember to look they never have any in stock, I've forgotten the name of it now anyway.

It is called 'Suddenly Madame Glamour' and costs £3.99. Our Lidls don't always have it either, but it is worth looking out for - despite the naff name, it is similar to a much more expensive perfume, and this similarity has been featured in the Guardian. This may be why it is often out of stock!

I don't think that Lidl £3.99 perfume is suitable for your birthday present from your OH though :p

But if you do see it at any point, it is worth picking up some for yourself :)

I tried that after reading reviews and it was horrible on me. I cant explain what it was exactly that I didn't like about it, the initial smell was fine, but when it faded it just didn't smell good on me, but then something that smells good on one person won't smell good on another.

Im back to using body shop perfumes and M and S.

Never did shop in Next - I think I am the wrong shape for their clothes.

I buy Next jeans, as they are one of the few brands that DO fit me, and I live in them! I buy them second hand off ebay though :D

January is going to be an expensive month with house insurance to pay for the year, DD's 21st and DH's birthday on the 21st of the month.

Thought I would have to pop out for a loaf but asked DH if he felt his mouth had recovered enough to eat home made bread and he reckons he could cope so about to put the breadmaker on which will save not just the cost of the loaf but everything else that would fall into the basket :j

Managed to get a load of YS meat yesterday so froze most of it and have a chicken to cook for tonight.

Good luck with the op. I sometimes use lentils with cooked diced onion and mashed potato to make lentil burgers and they seem to go down well with the family.

Anyone looking for posh perfume might like to look at a site called half price perfumes as I have got some very good deals in perfume and cosmetics and they have a clearance sale on at present.

    Hi all :j
I've just popped in from the KonMarie thread.
    And been converted.
I've just hauled out the entire contents of two wardrobes and resorted the whole lot. Its taken me 3 hours ,( I checked and ironed most of it).
I'll be *baying a bin bag full and the rest will either go to the clothing bank or CS.
Unfortunately in doing this I do NEED a decent pair of black trousers. I tried the ones on I have and they don't fit right. Tight round the waist, baggy round the bum:eek:. But that's the only item of clothing I need.
I boxed up my summer stuff to be sorted when I get to wear them. I know I will need some linen trousers.
I will look on *bay for both of these items. Or go to CS.
    Now for kitchen .......

Can I ask you what you actually want to do on retirement? I always worry about waiting to do what I really want to do till then. I think it's cos when my boss retired and moved to Spain it wasn't long before his wife took ill and died, and it also happened to the husband of someone I worked with shortly after they retired. I guess my point is, if it is something you can do sooner why wait?

    I think that's a really good point.

There's a balance to be struck between living now and preparing for the future, and I think it's unwise to put everything off to a later date 'when you are retired'.

None of us know what's round the corner, and it's good to do some of the exciting things 'now' rather than 'later'.

For all we know we might not be able to do things like long haul travel when we are older, so if people have a burning desire to do something, don't wait too long

As someone who has now been retired for four weeks, I want to carry on doing things that I did during my working life, like holidays and days out, but more of it, now that I have the time.

That's when I'm happy to live reasonably modestly most of the time, to enable me to have my cruises etc

  • I'd like to say here and now that one of our members is an enabler!!!

Only kidding - after posting yesterday about wanting to get some alphabet stamps, Iwantababy was lovely enough to pm me and offer me some she had at a knock down price. Quick talk with my mum, who agreed to buy them for me for my birthday, and it was a done deal! So thank you very much IWAB, you've made my day :)
  • *hangs head in shame*

Hopefully you can use them for something enterprising that will either save or make you money! X

When sorting the office out I've decided that card making isn't my thing so will be selling all of my card making stuff, I'm hoping if I bundle it together I can make £10-15.
I also have lots of cross stitch sets that I got free with magazines, bought from hobby craft and received as gifts. Again I'm hoping I may be able to sell the bundle for a similar amount. I'm keeping two big samplers that I have and one small set as well as my threads.

Despite the fact that I will have lost money on it, it gets it out of the way and hopefully a few £s into savings.

I have lots of kids shoes/wellies etc which I might try for a £1 a pair on the Facebook site, if no interest I'll take them to the charity shop.

    IWAB x
2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(
  • Just a heads up that my local Aldi had 500g bags of short grain rice for 49p today, down from 99p that is a 50p a bag saving, I bought six bags, but wish I had got more. DH said he will run me down ther in the morning.
It is a great substitute for arborio rice and lasts forever if stored correctly :)
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

For me it's being able to live my life how I want, not to be tied to the 9-5 grind, being told when I can take time off to enjoy life.

and yes the long haul travel is appealing and I'd love the chance to do some now but several things prevent it as I'm not talking 1 or 2 weeks at a time, Im talking 1 or 2 month breaks...work would never agree it for starters and while I have a mortgage I won't allow it :)
