Hi all
Had a lovely frugal day at work today - just went to visit the exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery which was hard going, it's about war - very thought provoking and sad. Went out without my bag so just had my phone in my pocket.
Booked in a couple of Mystery Dines which takes me up to 5 before the end of February. Hoping to combine one of them with a trip to see Peppa Pig at the cinema haha - we have a £10 gift voucher that expires soon and I can pay the rest using my Vodafone freebees card.
Had a very frugal lunch - a tin of soup and a packet of oatcakes from my desk drawer and some left over emmenthal from Christmas. Fruit from home, and someone has brought in doughnuts so snaffled one of those too!
Tonight's tea is some reduced (61p) bombay potato with cauliflower left over from Christmas and some reduced (49p) spinach stirred in, with value white rice. Yum!

I've had an online spendy day
I have 3 x girls age 9,8 and 7 and all their birthdays are within the one month period (well it's across jun/July but there are 30 days in total between all 3 birthdays) plus whilst I can normally always get away with handing stuff down to the Youngest, the eldest and middle are about the same size.
I normally also always start getting in christmas presents (toys) for the following year in the Christmas Eve sales (lol) but as they are getting older, the toys they will play with are getting less predictable. I have bought some bits to top up eldests wardrobe and some footwear in next size up for her (this always pans out ok for us and again, I can usually get away with handing her footwear down to at least one if not both of the others) the boots I got will be part of her birthday or Christmas (she never has a growth spurt she tends to get a yr out of footwear before she's in the next size)
Anyway, I can make all the excuses in the world, I caved, done a bit of sale shopping and a bit of sale present shopping. I feel better for it though as its things that I'd have been paying full price for rather than half price if I waited till nearer the time and I do actually get nervous that I won't have money for 'stuff' for their birthdays and Christmas if I don't start getting it in bit by bitNo more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. I have put some books together to sell on amazon, doh I cannot find the code details for the £5, will it happen automatically? The box is going to weigh a tonne and some are going for pence but only books I will never read again. We were going to take cardboard to the tip tomorrow but I may well be able to rescue a big enough box. Anyway £21 if all goes well and £26 with a voucher0

If you submit more than £15 of books to Amazon, and they are accepted, by the end of the month, they send you a code for £5. I received notification that my books were ok yesterday and the code for the extra fiver this afternoon.
The extra £5 is valid when you next make a purchase of £10 or more.0 -
Hi everyone, I've had a busy week which has been good, kept me occupied. Feeling a bit fed up today, my Ds's are at daddies until Sunday, I would usually go and buy a nice takeaway and pudding for my tea but my waistline or bank account don't need that, so I went in the co-op, got a bag of noodles for 29p, a jar of sweet and sour sauce for 20p then came home and did half of each with half a tin of tuna. Will have the rest tomorrow. Then made some custard with a banana for afters. And it took only minutes to make. Now if only someone would come and do my dishes!!Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

I almost put another 2 heavy books in but decided that I wouldn`t be able to carry it, so another time for those. I am loving seeing the empty space appear on my shelves. Good for the soul
I have had a bad back for days now, also a bad shoulder and hands so I started rebounding in ernest today, having figured that my lymphatic system needs to get moving to get rid of waste products. My problem is boredom, I mean I move almost all day but exercise is boring. Anyway I am loving the rebounder, it is the rolls royce bellicon and I started with a 3 minute session, getting me puffed. Then an hour later I did 10 minutes gently with no silly flips and felt good, the very strange thing is that my back isn`t aching now. I think stuff was getting stuck and not draining away. I need to remember to use it every day as I need to encourage my osteoblasts to build bone and at my time of life the osteoclasts (bone wasters) are rampant0 -
Arrrrrrggggg! Note to self, do not let hubby go in2 town for top up shop! Not only did he lose the list between the car & Lid! he bought the wrong stuff, stuff we had already (banana anyone?), bought a tonne of carp & forgot some 'vitals'. He then filled up the car, which I never do, we agreed only half fill!! I cannot get him to understand my need to think twice about every penny and over pay the mortgage. I'd rather do without & put all spare money towards it. If we did that we could put a serious dent in it over the next few years..........Busymumofthreeplusdog......

A spendy day for me too yesterday but only on essential clothes like trackie bottoms and pants for DS10 who is always growing, a pair of much needed boots for me and similar things. All good prices and replacements for everyday clothes and footwear that had been worn/grown out. I still didn't like to part with the cash! I had planned to go shopping again today for more essentials on The List but left it, short on time and I wasn't in the right mode and thought I might be tempted to pick up extra bits. Good news instead of the easy dinner I was going to pick up, I am now raiding the freezer to concoct dinner from random leftovers, could make for a fun meal :undecided
best get at it.....0 -
I had a spendy day today. A couple of essential bits for my home. Only £13.45. Both reduced in the sale (which I held out for since well before Xmas. And b/day cards.
Food spends £2.91. I'm writing all this down in my diary/notebook.
I feel like I'm achieving something at last.0 -
Whilst in town we made an appointment with Santander to open one of their 123 accounts. I think it's the right move for us, does anyone have any experience with them, good or bad??
I originally banked with Girobank who became Alliance and Leics. this was bought out by Santander so I stayed with them. So I have sort of been with them for about 40 years. I have only had one problem when some one put my middle name as None! It took me ages to get them to change that. Apart from that they are very good. If you keep £3000 pounds in the current account you get 3% interest. I put all my savings in there and with the extras I get for paying bills by direct debit I get about £20 interest per month. (You have to pay £2 per month in fees) Not a fortune but better than most current or savings accounts. I can't fault them. I do not have the credit card as I have a Capitol One and get cash back.
The staff at my local branch are very helpful although I do most of my banking on line.
Do give them a go. If the rate changes I shall look else where but in the mean time they suit me fine.0
