7_week_wonder wrote: »Good morning lovely shipmates,
I've checked the opening hours of the phone shop at the small shopping centre near work and they stay open until 6 this evening. So I am heading there on the way home and I will report back later.
Look forward to hearing about it - be strong shipmate it's your money and you are not buying it!
Ooh - sounds interesting, would you be happy to tell us more about it?
Yes more than happy to share - will be doing the first week later today but had a scan and looks interesting. Hope the link works - have been here about ten years and still haven't got the hang of quoting and linking!! Can try something else if it does not.

Might have a look again when we need a toiletry stock up and try and use the points that way as it's money I would have spent anyway, their delivery charge maybe a stumbling block but they sometimes waive that.
Hi POD - Not sure if you have a Boo*s nearby but they do free delivery for pick up to the most local one, handy if you are going for other stuff.January 2020 Grocery challenge £119.45/£200

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a good week!
I'm feeling quite proud of myself this morning as all week I had planned to go the the B00ts 70% off sale, despite having more toiletries than you can shake a stick at. Well after having a think whilst laying in bed, I really couldn't justify potentially being in a situation where people are going to push, shove and be selfish all because there are some reduced smellies. So I decided not to go and although I hate missing a bargain, I don't NEED anymore toiletries! So that money will now go on paying our holiday off
Apart from picking up some veggies and a few bits that we had run out of, it's been a no spend week for me so far!
If any of you did go to the sale, I hope you stayed safe and got everything you wanted!0 -
I have lots and lots of nuts since I bulk buy from a wholefood online shop, all vac packed and kept cool. Today I made hazelnut milk, the nuts soaked 24 hours and just made with filtered water and strained through a nutbag, so a good 1 litre stored in the fridge. I love nut milk on my muesli, soaked all night
Small organic meat order arrived today, so all tucked away and nutrient-dense liver for lunch (lol I can sense some of you squirming) we grew up on liver and onions and was a favourite dish when young.
Too many lemons left from christmas so I sliced on a mandolin and 7 trays are now dehydrating, no room in the freezer but they do freeze well in chunks, first spread on a plate or tray and then bagged
I started some alfalfa seeds 2 days ago and they are almost ready to eat. I have a brilliant device called the easy sprout. I just rinsed once after soaking and that was it, today I rinsed only because I wanted to loosen the sprouts with a fork. Tomorrow I will store both sprouters in the fridge and they will stay fresh and nice for a week. I have been sprouting for 40 years and have used lots of different methods, the cheapest by far is the jar, tights and rubber band. Anyway there is a seed sprouting thread that explains all. The easy sprout is way way the best I have ever used. Today I am soaking brown lentils and tonight will rinse and leave alone for a few days
I have started taking some herbs for achiness, must be the weather, that plus the fact that I forget and do loads, so just knitting for the rest of today but will be wearing my creature comforts gloves to stop my thumb movements being so repetitive
Has anyone got any brilliant idea on how to keep a stainless steel sink and draining board looking good all day long? I am forever wiping but again there are water marks and crustiness around the taps0 -
You won't make me squirm, kittie, I quite like liver and now you have brought it back to mind, I shall go up to the organic butcher and get some. But not for a few days as I have stuff I defrosted and will be eating that today and tomorrow. It's a lot of nutrient bang for very little buck.
Re the sink, I am in the same situation in a hard water area. I do find a microfibre cloth helpful. I have taken to using one to wash the dishes, after many years of being an afficianado of the scrubby-sided sponge, and a quick wipe around the sink during the day keeps things spic and span.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi POD - Not sure if you have a Boo*s nearby but they do free delivery for pick up to the most local one, handy if you are going for other stuff.
Ooh thanks, I was under the impression you had to spend £20 to get free store delivery but not at the moment. Still, I don't NEED anything right now, I don't!! :money:0 -
Well done all of you who have resisted The B00ts sale It's always been one of my " must go to" sales and I've even had love to shop vouchers earmarked for it. But I decided earlier in the year I don't need anything and have donated the vouchers elsewhere
Mmmmm liver and bacon, scrummy. Love it. I also love a bit of liver chopped real tiny, and cooked with finely chopped onion and garlic, with loads of butter, and served with scrambled egg and sprinkled with chilli in a pitta, one of my meals for pennies when I was struggling
7ww, well done for taking the plunge and deciding to go into store. If it's the same company I'm with, they really are helpful and it really is hassle free. They will look back at your bills and ensure you won't get a plan that's too little or too much. Hubby uses his phone more then me so that's why he's paying that bit more, so he don't get caught out by going over
It was worth going out and freezing my butt off hunting around the freezer last night. One chicken, defrosted, cut in to 10 pieces, a hunt around the kitchen and dinner is sorted, no spend and using up couscous which I'm not sure about. However I can't eat solids so I'm hoping the couscous will go down with the sauce from the chicken. Also found a bag of runners from the garden so that will satisfy mums need for a green veg. Oh and a stock made from the carcass ready for soup and that stripped of the last bits of meat for the dog
So now away to tackle the ironing now so hopefully I can get a nap this afternoon before work. Still feeling pants and looking like a hamster but need to work
Stay safe in this bad weather xxx0 -
Hi shipmates
my bookshelves have had a good declutter and I've got a bag for the c.s and today I posted off a box to the Amazon trade in so that's productive and really quite cathartic :j
noticed in today's i paper a piece by ruby wax was on mindfulness I must say I find both meditation and mindfulness helpful to me and it seems others are too which is nice to hear.
I've got to finish a bit of sewing today and house work
hope everyone keeps safe in the snow todayEmma :hello:0 -
I completely forgot about the Boots 70% off sale - how about that for a change of mindset? Although, must admit I couldn't face the savage hordes grabbing stuff off the shelves last year and made a conscious decision not to go, then.
Well done those of you who resisted!0 -
Morning everyone (it's still just about morning!) Had a spend yesterday of oregano and ham hock for bolognase and split pea soup respectively. Cost me £3.74 all told and I don't forsee any more purchases before the weekend when we need to restock the food supplies.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170
