Ches - I agree with the other,s - we,re all here for the same reason, to save a bit, we all have our own goals, so don,t feel bad because you worked hard and now are benefiting from it xx
I only save about £100 pm, but thats my choice, I went PT, and love it - obviously I,m not going to have as much money - its all about the choices we make xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

In fact Mumto2monkeys have you looked at dietary connections with your fibro? I have researched into MSG and sulphite sensitivity (which i have in abundance) and there are a lot of indicators with fibro?
Thanks for this. I have awful IBS (goes with Fibro and MSG is not my friend). At the minute I'm very overweight and struggle to lose weight - I'm trapped in a tired to my bones/overeat to compensate cycle. If you have any recommendations of things I could read, when we get to half term I might try and implement some changes. I know if I do it now, I will just give up (!!!!!! January blues), but with some proper planning and thought, it would certainly be worth a try.0 -

:rotfl:
I think you are right Thistle-down: I'm sure we got ours from the Book People at about the same time and I remember it being a very good deal at the time.
Please could I have some words of advice/encouragement or a stern order to get a grip! I am pretty frugal at most things - but I *really* need to sort out my phone contract! I am still paying £34 a month despite the fact that my contract expired about 6 months ago. I had a quick look on the web and sticking with the same company I can get a sim-only deal that gives me what I need for just £10 a month. But I'm nervous about making contact with them. Do people recommend phoning up or going into a shop? I don't want to haggle or anything, just sign up for a new sim-only deal: so why can't I do it - this is ridiculous:(0 -
7ww - what could you do with £284?
That's your saving over one year, could be the most you earn in 5 minutes!
Just give them a call and have written down what you want to switch to and tell them, if they try to sway you to a more expensive contract just remember you are not buying it, stay strong and keep repeating what you want!
You can do it! And report back when you do!2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
7 week wonder I was in the same situation at end of last year but finally got my act together in December and just went into local shop. Was no bother. The helpful young lady listened to what I wanted and put me on SIM only immediately. Result. So go on - do it.
I'll not be able to save much either as I have just a bit less than smileyt per month which does not give much leeway (I'm due to reach state pension age in September) but every little I can save with NBI will help give me a cushion for emergencies - though I do hope not to have any.;)
I too sent some books to Amazon and got £22 today. :jThanks for the info. Will have another sort thru for more to sell.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
mumto2monkeys, it must be hard with your medical conditions, can your GP help at all? For me my weight loss was all about mind-set and exercise. I ate clean, ie no processed foods, but if I wanted a massive handful of nuts I did, I can't diet. And exercised every day. But I totally understand that that may not be possible for you. I found after feeling rubbish for a few days suddenly I had loads of energy because I was feeding my body right. Its all about small steps, set little goals rather than one end one. I lost about 3 stone and have more importantly kept it off for 3 years. It's finding what works for you though, what u enjoy I suppose.
Did my waitrose order! They have loads of half price offers at the moment, I got 3 chickens, 4 packs mince, 5 jars coffee, 2 boxes of tea (I'm a tea and coffee snob) and loads of other stuff some of which will last for months. It should have come to £170.39, I saved 69.29 off from offers, then an extra £15 off and free delivery so £85.74 in total. And its all stuff I will use, cooking ingredients etc.
Went to zumba, it was fun. Thanks for all your support today people I'll shut up now. Ooo, one last thing, 7 week wonder SORT YOUR PHONE CONTRACT OUT!! I always do mine online and have never had a problem.Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

Natnat13 I may consider doing an online order next month as I want to start filling the freezer with meals in preparation for when the baby is born. So will need some staples to make meals out of. But I shall only do so if my list easily reaches the amount needed, I don't sent to buy for the sake of it.
Sounds like you did great with the deals x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

If I could squeeze £200 a month out of the budget I would be happy. I have gradually built up my savings from nothing by cutting unnecessary spends (satellite tv, book clubs, changing utility suppliers, having water meter fitted, etc), and each time I've managed to cut something, I added that to the amount going into the savings account each month. And over a couple of years, it adds up. But after joining this thread I think there's scope to squeeze some more excess out! Mostly by cutting clothes spending - I don't need anything so I'm just not going on any clothing-related websites for the foreseeable future, that way hopefully I won't be tempted. Any extra savings will go towards the things that need doing on the house.
I've also set myself a challenge - I bought some bedroom furniture from !KEA this month (house spends are allowed in my challenge!) which I was planning to pay for from my savings ....but....I'm going to try and pay for it out of my monthly wages without dipping into the savings account. To do this I need to pare back my food budget to the bare bones, just fruit and veg, milk and bread and pet food, and live out of my cupboards, and keep all other spending to absolute minimum essentials only, until mid-February. It's only a month, and it would be a great achievement, if I could do it.
I posted my Amazon trade-ins yesterday afternoon, and got an email this evening confirming it had been processed! The smilies don't work for me for some reason, but picture the little jumping-up-and-down happy smiley right here!Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.Oliver Sachs 20150 -
I was just on Amazon, and you know they show you little pics of products they think you might buy.....

Now, is it just me or is that £12.50 for a jar..........................Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Hi all.... Quick question -
For those who have cut there TV packages with the companies they have. Do you still have broadband and how much is that and is it with a landline.
The reason I'm asking is I have an all-in-one package which was reduced quite a bit by the company to keep my custom. I have 5months left and would consider having no TV package if I could find either something that records for free and broadband without a landline... If there's such a thing.0
