 But where will that leave room for the Valentine's Day chocolates? Have they no thought of the consequences?!

I've given up chocolate and dropped 8lb in under a week. At this rate I should be at my target weight in........oh, about 2016.:D I shall probably contribute to the bankruptcy of several large chocolate producing corporations, but then, there's a downside to everything, don't you find?

We have had to buy DH winter cycling trousers and a long sleeve cycling jersey today. £45 spent on them, but he does cycle to work and back everyday. His previous trousers had a hole worn in the backside, which I didn't feel capable of mending and he only had one long sleeve jersey. It's cheaper than a tank of petrol would be and will last much longer.

Afternoon everyone, I just fancied something to snack on this afternoon and usually a biscuit would have done the job, but there is only some ginger nuts in and I didn't really fancy one of those, so I thought of popping out to the shops, then stopped myself, not only because it is blowing an absolute gale outside and I am nice and warm, but I thought of this thread. So I knocked together some cheese scones and some fruit ones with stores from the cupboard, and I know they will be so much more enjoyable than shop bought things.

That is a win to me and the purse stayed shut for another day woo hoo little victories like this make me happy :)
:) Been here for a long time and don't often post
  • Just typed a big post and lost it, thank you plusnet

I did go to the supermarket today, got cashews, soya yogurt, around 12 YS leeks for a quid and there's a pot of tomato leek and onion soup bubbling away as I type.

Still no unnecessary spending in my world, am quite happy with that, dinner will be soup, something from the freezer and some fruit to finish.

Got 14 things on ebay and once my excess zumba wear is washed and on, I'm going to list 2 or 3 things a week until hopefully it's all gone.

Bought another pair of workout trousers from the charity shop for 99p, always try and buy them when they have them in, saves me a lot of cash over the year.

Decluttering is going slow but a lot of stuff that was only fit for the bin chute has been flung down in.

Thanks for everyones kind comments re my crappy job(s), all is good now, the job I do now gives me so much satisfaction, I can't actually put it into words.

Purpleshoes you can make your own soya yoghurt providing the one bought today is live yoghurt. Just warm about half a pint of soya milk so it's nice and comfy to stick your finger in (very technical, this method!), put in pre-warmed food flask and add a tablespoon or two of yoghurt. Leave overnight and in the morning you will have more yoghurt. It will be runnier than shop bought stuff because it won't have any added starch. You can also use a couple of tablespoons of this to start off another batch.

I've had horror stories at work too. One of my bosses was so OCD she would come in and tidy my desk whilst I was working, and pick up any spare paperclips to put them back in their holder, all the while chastising me for my untidy ways. Another one, who was much younger than me, couldn't cope with having an older employee (I was the oldest in large team by about fifteen years) and sacked me for being aggressive to management. I wasn't, needless to say. I did go to an internal hearing, but they found against me, partly because the director said I'd been aggressive to her - an outright lie that completely floored me. This was a world-famous art gallery. I found out later that the art world is notorious for preserving hierarchy at all costs, and that anyone who steps out of place (such as me asking awkward questions about why the fire doors were still locked mid-afternoon) is axed quick sharpish. I also found out that I wasn't the first person to be chopped from there in this manner, but none of the other staff would support me because they were so terrified for their own jobs. Appalling. My income now is so low that I don't pay any tax. I'm trying to run a small business, but as I suffer from depression it is really difficult to keep going.

However, knowing how to cut my coat according to my cloth means I can live on a very low income. I shall be making a loaf of bread, some oatcakes and peanut butter later on - meaning lunches and snacks this week will only cost around £4 even taking into account gas for baking.

  • Easter Chocolate?????? Mid January????? They must be joking! I was quite happy this time that the Christmas stuff apperead realtively late and not already at the end of the summer holidays, but apparently they're now making up for that by selling Easter stuff already....
Though then, when I go outside, I really wonder if it is Eastern already... I can't remember that I've ever had my laundry outside in the sun in January...

GreyQueen, you alway make me laugh! You should write a blog.

I had the first spend beside food and monthly bills yesterday; a cinema ticket and a book I've been waiting for since July but the release date changed five times. Need to read that quickly as my sister is waiting as well. Luckily we like the same kind of books and movies so we save a lot by passing books and DVDs back and forth in the family.

I did some "down-branding" yesterday while doing my groceries round and picked some things up from their basic-range or own brand where I would normally take a specific brand. I think I'm still in the routine of buying brands from the time when I went to a supermarket witout an usefull own brand. I grew up with own brands, get 3 for 2 and ys, so really wonder how I fell into the track of not doing that myself....

atypicalblond some bosses are just.... Well, no words to describe them! Good that you're out of there!
It is also a way of making money by stretching the one you have to get more for it. Unfortunatelly most people don't get that concept. I think, even without earning so much, you at least know how to make the best out of what you have for you and your family.

  • Hi everyone - permission to come aboard please? I have enjoyed reading this thread and taking up some of your ideas. :)

Just wanted to mention that Sainsb*ry's have got hot cross buns on sale already ....... didn't buy any, just like I didn't buy any of the mince pies that were on sale in October.

It is craziness and it's so good that people like you are fighting back. :T
