I have tidied out some old books for Amazon and my son mentioned I had a shelf of old mobile phones. He sold all his to envirofone. It works the same way as amazon but they send you out the packaging. I had 4 phones to sell up to about £30 each:D Might be worth a try if you are tidying out as I was going to bin them.
  • Had a good day, got assignment sent off :J helped DH with a presentation he has to do for work. He has done a good job. Had to take some pictures to be framed but have saved for this expense.

Other than that using things out of the freezer and still eating the Christmas chocolates. Need some fruit tomorrow so will have to pop to the supermarket. This thread is helping focus the mind.

    Could do better x
Overpay mortgage £100 per month. Not Buying it 2015.
  • Now I'm back at work I'm finding it hard to keep up with you all but I've finally done it! I've started going through books for Amazon and am hoping to make some money to spend on Christmas presents later on in the year. Thanks for the tip 😊
  • What a great thread! I shall have to start my no unnecessary spending in February. I'm ashamed to say my spending has gone through the roof, for example, today I've bought a brand new dishwasher, as our old second hand one stopped working. We thought about calling an engineer to look at it, but figured there wouldn't be much change out of£100 what with call out, parts and labour:mad:. Hence just bought one from the AO.COM site for £180, going via Top Cashback. I can justify that spend........but not(Dare I say it) my totally frivolous buying off the TV shopping channel  Caress Jeans! The deed is done now. I still have to buy presents for DS1 turning 26 this month, but no more impulse buys!
    keep smiling,

It's rather cold and blustery here to say the least with gales and heavy snow showers. Today I had the much needed hairdressers but that came from Christmas money's so won't count it in. Popped to the butchers in the afternoon and spent £7 but that's everything sorted for the week now, only a couple of things to pick up tomorrow.

Since it's Saturday it's feet up and opened a bottle of wine from Christmas and watched a film called Road, hubby got for Christmas, it's about motorbike racing, we used to be able to afford to go to the Isle of Man, for the TT but there is just no way now we could even consider it, both with increased costs and reduced income, at least our Saturday night was free!

  • Thanks to the OP who posted about 1500 Days, if you've not already seen this blog check it out. The thing with forums and blogs is that they all lead onto another, and another and another, before you know it you've 100's of links lined up waiting to be read. - Or maybe that's just me.

Anyway all of this has led to me starting my own blog, I hope by blogging, and posting here that I'll be forced to admit the good, the bad and the ugly. :D

Glad so many of you are benefiting from the Amazon tip! OH has been laughing at how happy i've been that people appreciate my useful money saving idea's the majority of others are just like 'Huh?' so I can't tell you how great it is to find like minded people.
  • Thanks Slowdown for starting this, wow it's hard to keep up with.

With enough food to keep us going until 2016, and I’m only semi kidding – together with clutter this thread has been inspirational, I’ve also joined well mentally before now, and well now. As others have said there are still what we consider vitals that will need to be spent on but I will think at least twice about other things but this is something I do already.:o
We got rid of the Sky subscription in January 2014, I was dubious as I liked it but I couldn’t justify it when my father gifted us a TV that has freesat and Smart built in turns out I don’t miss it, and have put £45 away each month that would have gone Sky. We have also as of this December told BT and the old internet provider to stop, as we now use 4G mobile data internet, it’s a bit of a test trial run at the moment but it works a lot better than they did.

Looking forward to the year ahead.:)

Chinagirl isn't there a 14 day grace period during which you can cancel/return goods bought through distance selling? If you don't want the jeans maybe you could do this.

Just popping on to say I rather obsessively read my gas meter before and after baking. It has cost me 29.2 pence to bake 30 oatcakes and 2 loaves of bread - oven on at gas mark 6 and 7 for just under two hours (a friend phoned and delayed the bread going in the oven for 15 minutes). That's much cheaper than I anticipated - I thought I'd be looking at £1 at least.

What ho, me hearties! (That was more Jeeves and Wooster than Blackbeard!)

This morning, as I washed my hands i studied the front of the bottle of liquid soap. It said on it that 84 British sun rises had gone into it. What? How? Why? Complete rubbish. If I'd seen that before I purchased I wouldn't have bothered. They must think we're all stupid. Note to self: look at nonsensical rubbish on packaging before buying.

On the buying front I made a purchase today. I was on the lookout for a jumper in the CS. Wandered about then went into fat face to look at sale socks for OH. He loves a FF woolly sock ( but only when half price). A jumper I had tried on before Christmas was on the sale rack so I peeped at the label. It was £48 before - the reason I didn't buy it. But today? £15!!! A whopping £33 off! I buyed!
All the way home a feeling of guilt crept over me. But then I thought: CS one £6.50 anyway, didn't even look at another item ( would have bought at least two more usually) and OH socks weren't there so no spend on them. I do love it I have to say. Tell me mates, is it plank time??

On a cheaper note I used HM mincemeat leftover from christmas and made festive flapjack again. I absolutely love it and had all the ingredients in the cupboard. Yum.

DH has cellulitis so is spending a lot of the weekend in bed and hopefully the anti - bs will kick in soon. (Not literally I hope as he has a very sore ankle already). That means a quiet one for us but that is no bad thing.

Lots of good work going on with you no spend sailors. Everyone seems to be helping everyone out which is great. Lots of support for those in need and it feels like a friendly deck to be sat upon.

Kind regards and have a peaceful night.
