Well we had a great time at the party last night, there was food laid on and we only spent £10 on drinks for the two of us :j
So a pretty cheap night out
Another NSD today, I have spent the time catching up on the washing and it is actually nearly dry on the line :j
We are going to Wilko's and Farmfoods tomorrow, hopefully I will not spend too much, I need pasta, and sausages in Farmfoods and some *cleaning cloths, some new pegs, fairy liquid and brillo pads from Wilko, plus DH needs some storage boxes which are on offer in there.
*I buy the car cleaning pack which is with the car stuff, you get loads of different types of cloths including dusters for £1:D
DS wants me to get him something from Hemel next week, plus I have a £5 loyalty gift voucher to spend in the works :jand a set of free cards.
That will be another £5 in the coupon pot so that is £35 in so far :jBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I have a rather large savoy cabbage rolling around my fridge. Its a couple of weeks old but looks good. We never usually eat cabbage. Any recommendations on livening it up/what to put with it/using it up without just steaming it??0

Sorry to be a pain but can anyone tell me which page the information about amazon books was posted ? Was it by NC6NH?
I lost the thread a bit there.
Went to get a few bits from aLDi only got exactly what I needed. Queues of cars to get in - it wasn't until I left I realised it was because of half price sales. I am so switched off from sale signs I didn't even see them! Clearly nothing on my list was in a sale.
DH has had to go out to get car parts. When he returns he will have a home made 'pub snack'. Warm Bacon brie and cranberry pannini with bowl of chips. Milky coffee and warm mince pie and ice cream to follow. Actually only had to buy brie this morning rest out of cupboards and freezers winding stock down.
I love this thread!!
I believe it was Thistle-down anyhow the Amazon link is here:

We,re fond of this -
Cabbage Rolls
2 cups cooked long grain rice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 medium onion, finely diced
1 clove garlic, finely minced
1/2 pound mince
salt and pepper
1 head of green cabbage
1 can tomato sauce
Cook the rice according to package instructions.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Remove the core of the cabbage with a sharp knife and remove any damages outer leaves. Add the head of cabbage to the boiling water. Once the leaves start to soften, use tongs to gently peel away the leaves, trying hard to keep each leaf whole. Blanch cabbage for about 5 minutes until leaves start to soften. Remove cabbage from the heat and strain in a colander.
To make the filling add olive oil to a large frying pan. Saute onion over medium high heat about 5 minutes, add garlic and cook for about 1 minute. Add the hamburger and cook until brown. Salt and pepper to taste.
Remove from heat and mix hamburger mixture with cooked rice in a large bowl. The key to this dish is to really add flavor with salt and a generous amount of pepper to taste– don’t undo this step or you will have bland cabbage rolls.
Once the cabbage leaves are cool you can add the filling. Use as many of the cabbage leaves as possible until you get to the center of the head of cabbage, where the leaves are white and too small to use. If desired, you can carefully cut away the large center vein from each leaf. Spoon the filling into each leaf. Place the rolls touching each other into a 9″ x 13″ casserole dish. Pour the can of tomato sauce over the top.
Cover tightly with foil. Place in a 325 degree oven for 2 hours or 300 degrees for 3 hours.
Serve warm.
Makes about 12 rolls.Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

As with lettuces and cauliflower, just shave a small amount off the base of the stalk so that fresh white flesh is visible then immerse in a. Bowl of cold water for s few hours.
Try shredding and stir frying with chopped apple, onion and chopped frankfurter sausages and mash.
Or cook shredded, mix in with fried onions and mashed potato. Turn into frying pan and shallow fry on both sides until crispy brown , or turn them into smaller patties and shallow fry until crisp.0 -

purpleshoes and atypicalblonde ... my heart goes out to you both. Terrible times ...
I *feel* like I'm struggling, but I'm not at all, not compared to all of that. I genuinely think I'm starting to get better today, which I'm very, very thankful for. I had two ebay auctions finishing yesterday (well, I had 10, but two sold) so this morning I hunted out packing materials, and managed to post it all off. Very pleased, and I don't seem to have suffered for doing that. Going to make sure I take it easy the rest of the day though.
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
You have saved me loads of money today. My fridge freezer is too small - there is just the two of us but if the family are home and I am making desserts or at Christmas and New Year when I had loads of food in. I was thinking that the problem is the tank in the door for iced water it takes up too much space ( we have never used that) The water comes out the tap absolutely freezing. So I was looking in the fridge then it dawned on me if I removed the lid of the tank I could put all the sauce mayo etc bottles into the tank. Problem solved- the fridge looks really tidy and I have saved a few hundred pounds:beer:0

Hmm, have been over in Excel, did you see me waving not drowning?
Just ran my numbers from 2014 against 2013. I went on holiday in 2013 and not at all last year (didn't miss it, frankly) so I spent more. But even when I removed the holiday expenditures from the equation, I still spent £19.89 less last year, month-in-month-out, than I did the year before.
This pleases me, because there's a naughty £400 of archery equipment purchased in 2014, over and above classes, which won't be repeated this year, plus the rent had gone up and so had my service charges.
I think I need to print hardcopy of these spreadsheets so I can peruse them side by side and see what else had changed.I can let you into a small secret; I maintain this glamourous external appearance on a clothing and footwear average monthly spend of £6.17. Those who know me IRL can see where every penny (wasn't) spent, lol.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
