  • If you trade in £10 worth postage is free. But it's only selected books. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/browse/ref=trdrt_cart_store?ie=UTF8&node=440443031

And a huge thank you from me as well. At the weekend I had sorted out some books that I wan't going to use/re-read so, more out of curiosity than anything else, I put them into the trade-in site this evening. The end result is that I will get £18 (plus a bonus £5) for 5 books that I was wondering what to do with :T

Still thinking carefully about purchases and stuff in general. I've signed up to go for a taster session in mindfulness meditation tomorrow evening - I'm really looking forward to it.

    Have a good evening everyone.

  • I am reporting a no spend day today. Mainly because I dont need anything combined with the fact that the sore throat that I had over the festive season has put in another appearance and led to me not leaving the house.
I must be ill - I havent even had an idle meander onto ebay.
Enjoy the rest of your evening and keep the starboard pointing in the right direction.

Evening, thought I'd catch up before retiring to my hammock.

Another no spend day, last shop was 29 December at aldi apart from milk which I got on 4th January from B&M. Been living out of fridge/freezer cupboards and I have to admit that I haven't even made a dent yet. At this rate it will be end of February before I will empty freezer.

Have been reading MMM's blog that someone mentioned earlier...very interesting even if it is US based, makes me more determined than ever to reduce my outgoings...I may not be able to retire early but I'd like to have the option of reducing my working hours at some point.

This thread and the blog are making me think about exactly where my money is going and I assure you it wont be going anywhere near tat in the future!

Did I say we were only going to get bananas?! Because the local co-op had run out of them, OH decided to drive to As*a and do a weekly shop instead! So £39 groceries and £48 petrol before driving home. Also spent £43 on wallpaper and £25 on paint for the hall, so all in all a spendy day.

Just to say stay safe everyone who lives where the high winds are going to hit, have heard conflicting reports but Ive seen ones that say scotland is going to be battered by very high winds tomorrow rather than the weekend. How the weather is will determine what I do tomorrow, got the bags to drop off to the charity shop but will stock up on some cat food/litter just incase I don't go back out until the weekend. Got a night out at the weekend with my meet up group but have told everyone we may need to rearrange if the weather does get really wild. No matter, plenty more nights out, got the whole year to socialise, will be happy enough if I dont have another night out until the beginning of next month. (Like everything else theres no happy medium with me, Im either out all the time or in all the time).

Not spent anymore money, went out to pick up my glasses and met my mum, I had a soda water which some pubs don't charge for, still feeling a bit off colour, had 3 YS bananas, I don't really like them, but compared to a normal eating day Ive had hardly any fruit or veg today, just couldn't face it, the thought of eating a plate of greens, just couldn't do it, anyhow, its Pauline 1 bananas nil. Don't know how I reached the age of 45 and started eating foods I don't really like, bootcamp one reason (that would be the peanut butter), but hey, that narrows down the list of foods I will never ever eat (apart from meat), to celery (urgh) and apricots (double).

Anyway, the bananas, the appletiser and the satsuma I found on my travels will save me from scurvy. Also found a lush shampoo bar on my decluttering travels. Have 10 ebay items listed with more to go.

The eat from the freezer dinners will start again tomorrow. Even though my local corner shop is more expensive than the supermarket (its a NISA and their pricing policy is a bit odd, everything is mega expensive, think 2 quid a tin of tuna, but then they have offers so one week beer will be dirt cheap etc), when I go in there given that their prices are so expensive, I don't go around going, I'll have that, that, that and that. I only ever buy soda water, the aforementioned appletiser now and then and the odd packet of crisps/whiskas for the mogs, so when I do need any of those things, that is where I will go.

How many times have I gone in a supermarket for one thing and come out £15 quid poorer? Loads.

Even if I do go to a supermarket before the end of the month again which I will, self control will be the word(s) of the day. Cat food, cat litter and water for me (because I have enough to eat and won't buy more food until my stocks are done).

I still have YS parsnips so some more curried parsnip and onion soup will get made tomorrow.

Its pouring here and blowing a gale, stay safe everyone.

Let's get the negative bit out So, after a rubbish three days at work, I came home and had a couple of drinks to calm myself down. Not a good way to solve your problems at all but it was only two and I stopped there. I am finding my job a proper struggle at the moment and it really isn't the children that are the problem. It's being totally undermined by management and being left to struggle in a new post without any guidance at all. Anyway as a result, a discussion ensued with DH when neither of us could get to sleep. He declared my mental health to be most important and said if I couldn't get a new job in the summer I could leave anyway. Half of me rejoices half of me feels guilty.
Does anyone else on this ship live on a roller coaster of emotion and energy, self belief and self questioning or is it just me?

Now let's move into calmer waters on the brighter side another NSD yesterday which will help make up for the spends I am about to embark on. Yoga fees due £60, butchers about £18, waitrose about £50. Hopefully that's it.

Today I will continue to declutter and clean and wash and iron and check the furniture in the summer house hasn't gone mouldy! I may need a rest too as the dreaded lurgy is upon me.

Thanks to all my wonderful shipmates. I cannot tell you what an inspiration you are and how you have kept my feet firmly on deck thus far. I read every day and thanked every post in appreciation of your efforts. I had no idea this thread would inspire so many and I am overwhelmed by the number of posts. I also applaud your positivity and it certainly keeps me "bobbing along on the crest of a wave". (If you're a young'un you won't get that musical reference!)

Cheers and pip, pip me hearties.

    Kind regards

Hi slowdown, the dreaded lurgy has arrived here too but after a lazy evening feeling sorry for myself I now feel guilty because last nights dishes are still there waiting for me :o ....can I just throw them over board?

    Some positives,
I managed to pay my catalogue bill off this morning :j
Got 2 sales on eBay making £30.
Listed some items on gum tree that are too heavy to post.
Plan to do some baking with my family if my body allows (health).
Play with my dog, who reminds me to live in the moment.

Have a good day all :D
    Kindness costs nothing :)

    Morning Slowdown

Sorry to hear you've had a bad few days. We all have them at work and start to question if thats how we really want to live. What's good to hear is that you and your DH have had a 'big talk' and he's thrown you the safety line of being able to leave if you really want to. That strangely in itself may ease how you feel knowing you've got a get out if you need it.

I don't work in the same field as you at all, but I do question a lot if I really want to continue working (I'm 53 ) but in actual fact I think I could actually miss work if I left and miss contact with others.

Working full time and being captain of a ship is a lot for anyone. Don't forget you've got a loyal crew behind you.

Hope you have a better day.

Good morning. Don't have time this am to comment everywhere but had to say

Pauline so pleased to hear it's not cancer. I don't know why drs don't seem to think about the fact worrying about this type of thing is what us normal people do.

Slowdown, I could have written much of your last post myself. I have already revealed a little of my current situation on this thread and am off sick now with a neurological condition ( not mental health) that I believe was precipitated by chronic stress at my place of work for the reasons you describe. I don't intend to stay there, but need to get well first. I know exactly how you feel but def not to feel guilty. Could you do something privately? My new business is education based and wonder if you can do something similar...

Hope today is less stressful xx

    Bexster :)
