I'm not up to date on thread but thought I would post.
For me spending money is about saving money. I don't really do NSDs because if I see something I NEED and its cheap I would rather buy it than wait and count any NSDs I've had in a row.
Today was a spend day £22.85 to be exact. Which included a £25 gift card (part paid with a money off voucher) bringing it to £17. Bargain :-). Then I bought 2 Christmas presents, Christmas wrapping paper, wine bags, bows to match and tissue for wine.
Normally I do reuse bows and tissue and bags but some of my family are soooo tight that I'm sure the wrapping goes around my family. Now I know that's more money saving but come on reusing wrap constantly so its tatty isn't nice.
Even the bows that they used were squashed and had come unsticky. (You know the 25+ pack ones you can pick up for 25p now) get regurgitated until there threadbare.
I won't do this. I do like nicely wrapped gifts. And yes I do reuse ribbons and things but like to match the wrapping paper. Maybe I'm ocd :rotfl: So if I do have matching accessories that I've kept and they still look good they get used first.
I wasn't impressed that a family member regifted an ornament (one of a two part piece to me).
There's tight and tighter
Even a £1 land choc box wouldve been better.
Any how I'm rambling. But suffice to say that lot cost me only £22.85 with one being a major birthday gift.
Will catch up with thread now.:D0 -
Hi Islandmaid, how old is your big freezer? Could you wait until nature takes its course and it dies on you? I'm assuming that you have sufficient funds to run it and don't have urgent need for the space it takes up?
Sometimes natural attrition can be used as part of the decision making process, and you can also delay replacing something which you've owned an example of, to decide whether you really need to have it.Six sleeps until the new washing machine arrives, I'm like a kid before Christmas.........there will be laundry, clean laundry, next week.
I've bought a lemon today for a recipe but am unaccountably not-hungry tonight so have had a slice of bread and CBA to cook. Me not being hungry is almost-unheard of, I feel like calling someone for medical advice, but let's go with the feeling. I've had an omelette for brekkie and 3 slices of wholemeal bread and butter since, so in no danger of wasting away any time soon.
I really enjoyed listening to that Radio 4 womans hour programme whilst happily cutting up old Xmas and birthday cards to make gift tags - little things pleasing little minds. All those plus the saved Xmas paper is now neatly put away into a couple of A4 plastic pouches for re-use and I am slowly excavating my living room.
My mission (should I choose to accept it) will be to use the weekend to catch up with some procrastinated things inc clothing alterations, so that injured garments can come back into use.
Keep up the good work, me hearties.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ - its about 8/9 years old - I know what you mean about letting it die a natrual death, the extra slace would be nice, but its not like we,re desparate for the space - its more the fact I am buying for the freezer, just in case I need the freezer, if that makes sense.
Trouble is we,re pre empty nesters 1 gone, 1 hardly ever here, and one looking forward to uni life in 18 months time - but they do return like hungry salmon........ But I shop to feed all of them each week, need to adapt my shopping habits to fit the new family dynamic....
No rush, will keep it for now - don,t want to end up buying another

As for drop in centres 53 have been closed and so have many A&E departments because of Tory cuts.
Ours has been closed and our local hospital is one that has appeared in the newspapers just lately, shocking. :mad:Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0 -
Had a really good day today.
Bag was returned for a refund.
Finally filled in my new calendar (a beautiful Emma bridgewater one I received as a Christmas gift).
Sorted through loads of paperwork ready to file/burn.
Went through all my notepads and consolidated any to do lists onto one main one and got rid of all used pages. (I now have 8 'empty' half used notepads - why did I keep buying new ones?).
Homemade spaghetti and meatballs for tea.
The best bit by far - Wilkos had sold out of the underbed storage boxes so I sent my husband to look in the attic just in case we had any up there and low and behold we found two of the exact boxes up there and we managed to consolidate these into one larger empty one. This means I can finally finish organising all the baby stuff, keep it safe but out of the way in our room and we have saved £10!
Need to write a to do list for tomorrow.
IWAB x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -

You may type in the ISBN and find that the book hasnt been found, check it's correct, and if still not showing then they wont buy it from you. I managed to make the £15 by asking relatives if there were any they wanted to chuck at me with me donating those that aren't of any value. Most don't have the time to eBay or do the trip to the charity themselves. So there winners, I'm a winner, and the charity shops too! Happy days!0 -
Spent a little today. I usually allocate £10 a week for work, including on my weeks off. I have a week off coming up at the end of the month so I decided to use that tonight for fish and chips for me and my mum. One large fish and chips is £5.90 and easily enough for us to share so the other £4.10 went into the money box.0

It was a NSD today, the 4. in a row. I checked if I could get some yarn for my next project in the sales, but they only had strange ones on offer. Probably the ones nobody want and people will now buy because they're reduced.... Then had a small look at the cosmetics section and saw a shower gel which I really like 50% off. Well, after checking with a not-reduced one on another shelf I guestimated that it is actually rather 30% off. They just put a much higher price tag on it...
Well, that is just another prove how they do it....
Removed the last christmas stuff yesterday and all neatly stored away for next year. My cats are sad that the christmas tree is gone, they loved to hide behind it.
Pauline; good to hear that it isn't cancer!
Kittie, must be good to have a trained first aider in the family!
So, will need to get my shopping list together for tomorrow evening. Two friends will visit on Friday evening, so I'm making belgian waffles - haven't used my waffle iron for ages - with hm apple sauce, yoghurt and plums from the freezer. So even with that it will be quite a small groceries bill as I only need fruit/veg, dairy and minced meat.Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /
