We had a 60x20ft veg plot in the field last year, this year we plan to put a poly tunnel over it and dig an outdoor veg bed next to it. We have the poly tunnel hoops (in laws were farmers) just need the polythene.
Any poly tunnel tips or book/website recommendations greatly received.

    Hi IWAB,
I bought my polytunnel from First tunnels and they were really helpful. They do replacement polythene along with accessories. My tip would be to install a watering system - It's always the hottest days when you have the least time to water!
I also came across a really useful blog the writer of which eventually teamed up with the tunnel company after he had written a polytunnel book. The blog is still going but is a lot more commercialised now.

    Ahoy there :)

Another NSD yesterday so that's three in a row. Might pop out for mushrooms locally later on.

Had GD yesterday and she was really tearful which is not like her. Turns out she has a virus poor mite. I'm desperate to buy her a bookcase I've seen, plus I have £18 worth of vouchers I can use, but I'm still baulking at the price. I don't know.

Have promised OH I will sort out the hall, which will hopefully mean she won't want to move, so I need to start saving. I also need to get rid of some bits but fleabay is getting so expensive. Might put them on FB instead then chazzer them if they don't sell.

Another thing she is moaning about is the garden. We have raised beds and shingle down to make things easier, but I think she is finding it too much. We have mainly perennials in the beds, like hebes, lavender and buddleia, which we supplement with some annuals during the summer, but they do take a lot of tiding. OH has MS as well and gardening is hard on her physically. Does anyone have any ideas for low maintenance planting? The soil has good drainage but we do get a lot of rain and wind. The garden is south facing but has high walls all around so quite shady. I can garden too but again things need to be low maintenance.

Right off for a coffee then start my day of decluttering.

I've been decluttering for the last few days and have 3 black bags for CS, 1 for the dump and 2 for rag recycling. I don't even know where it all comes from?!
Wee one seems to be recovered from scarlet fever so they'll both be back to school/playgroup on monday and i'll sort their room out.
Spent just over £10 on fabric yesterday gor bits and pieces i want to make, just need to figure out how to work the sewing machine first!

I also want to plan out what my goals are for this year with regards to getting things done in the house and Garden and also make a start on holiday planning.
  • Morning folks, spent £22.87 in wait#ose yesterday on essentials, even managed to get some YS spuds, fil owes me £2.65 from this amount though as I had to pick him up 8 pints milk and a paper. Hoping to pop to A#di in the week to pick up lunch box items and some veg. We are over a friends tonight for dinner, but apparently going over to the pub now :( won't be a NSD today then.

Managed to get the majority of the decs down yesterday, just need to finish off and get hubby to put them in the loft. Apparently he needs to have a sort out in the loft first though as there's too much weight up there. :o

I also REALLY need to study, I'm getting behind, but just can't face it. Why do I do it to myself :(.

leek and tattie soup on the go as I write, I also added 1/3 of a fennel bulb, half a carrot and a bit of broccoli, all wanting to be used up. Just have remaining some sweet potatoes for mash tomorrow, left over parsnips in a riverford bag and kale, swede and cabbage on the allotment. I am on a mission to get through the veggies this coming week so will make more nice soups at least

2 lovely silk well made pillow cases arrived today from amazon, cheap for the good quality. I have lots of washed silk in my stash but it was still cheaper to buy the cases. The silk in my stash is for some lovely nighties for me, they are oh so expensive to buy. I bought silk because my hair is getting long now and it will help stop it tangling, never in my whole life had long hair, I have saved a fortune not going to the hairdressers and I hated going too, hated the small talk, the chit chat, the products (I only use organic type)and especially the time.

I made a non-chutney topping for 2 lean mutton chops today. No sugar, just hm wholegrain mustard, olive oil and lemon. They are going in the oven soon to slow cook, together with some whole beetroots for salad tomorrow. I have lots of mustard seeds and the mustard is very easy to make. Basically a recipe like http://thehealthyfoodie.com/home-made-whole-grain-mustard/ I use wine vinegar as I had some in gallon containers. Anyway it is a good non sugar sub for chutney

A gentle day today and I will watch episode 5 of cranford on dvd, while relaxing with my spinning wheel

  • Morning all,

Have taken down all the Christmas stuff this morning and have decluttered 2 bags of clothes and toys for the charity shop. I take them to my local Oxfam and earn Nectar points on them. I usually save my Nectar points for a food shop when we are on holiday, although I didn't use them last year so I have quite a few ready for this year (we are going to Northumberland for a week). It has been a spend day though as I needed to get DD some school boots. Have to go to John Lewis and pick them up tomorrow so will try not to spend when I am there.

Love the idea of 50 things to do before you are 50.

During my decluttering I found 7 tubs of different facial moisturisers, which I am going to vow to use first before I buy any more.

I have some work to do today (I work freelance) so will get that done this afternoon.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

I'm used to being on my own as I've lived here for over 7years by myself. The last thing I need is another child and youre right I won't be contacting him.
I've got so much to do here... EBay parcel to wrap and decluttering to do.
I love the 50 things before 50. What a great idea.
Ist on my list will be to start up swimming for leisure again. I stopped last year but will try and go at least once a week to begin with.
Must crack on... Loads to do and as I'm home alone again I need to sort out my dinner.
I fancy homemade pancakes for brunch. I have all the ingredients to use up.

I get a lot of my fitness stuff off ebay, found kettles very cheap there and a set of skipping ropes cost me around 2 quid.

Im not cancelling my gym membership as it only costs me 21 quid a month and I do bootcamps as well that are well worth the money. Plus my brother is my gym instructor and he'd kick my backside if I left. I go 5-6 days a week and make use of all the facilities so its worth it to me. Left to my own home exercise devices I wouldnt do very much.

I also got some very cheap anatomy books from ebay when I was doing my pre and post natal fitness course and studying for my PT course.

Ebay and play.com can be really good, I also get my coconut oil from ebay and its a third of the price than in tescos.

I wish mine was £21 a month! £43.95 here and I'm not getting my monies worth :(
But that's my fault I'm not pushing myself to go, and my schedule is erratic as to when I'm available, as I need DH to be home to watch our son, and then thats the time that the dog needs walking, and then its dinner time etc..... even as I type i know its excuses and I could find 2-3 times to go if I really worked at it, but in my head if im not going 5 times, im failing..... but then im just not going at all :rotfl:

I have quite a few anatomy books as I'm trained as a massage therapist as well. I'm debating my OU course though as I have to submit either a coaching qualification or an exercise instruction one (gym instructor/PT) and I'm just not convinced I want to do either badly enough to invest the money in it. But I'd liked to have a named degree so I'm still thinking....:o

    Morning all,

So much to comment on! Welcome to the new people, this really is a wonderful thread.

Kittie, hubby found the Cranford series dvd while he was decluttering and it is sitting by the tv ready for me to watch. Also, I am another who has decided to grow my hair long, it was last waist length 35 years ago. It is now long enough for a small pony tail, liberating not to go to the hairdressers and pay £20 for a wet cut. My fringe is a little crooked where I cut it myself but probably because I used nail scissors! :D

Will not be a nsd today as we will be buying some eggs and soya milk. Also buying a couple of birthday gifts but this is coming out of the gift fund. Was going to buy some cotton wool, but then thought I would make some face cloths out of an old cotton towelling robe I was going to ditch.

I have now ran out of facial moisturiser do any of you have any suggestions for a more natural moisturiser? I am thinking of doing the oil/warm water cleansing routine and I wonder if moisturiser is needed after this? I will give it a go and see.

Feeling very tired and am still in bed! Will get up shortly and put lunch on and then start decluttering the kitchen.

    Take care all.
