I text my BF and explained how I felt. As usual he got **sey. Think I should start thinking about joining the singles thread.
I sold something small on eBay tonight so will post that off tomorrow. All little things help.
I broke a candle in a glass jar as well :-( knocked it off the bedside table whilst putting my hot water bottle there.
So my plans for tomorrow are to spend the day by myself (I've felt I have most of the time anyway).
Declutter and pop out either to see if I can find a cheap diary ( I thought about using my phone to write everything down but if it breaks I won't have back up) or just for a little drive to beach. Not much fun by myself but ive got to start thinking about myself. Hence my username.

It sounds like you deserve better than him!!

I don't know what phone you've got, but if you've got a computer as well I can recommend EverNote. The basic version is free and you can download it onto all your devices. It then syncs itself so you can access your notes on whichever device you want. So if your phone broke you would still be able to access your stuff. I use it for keeping lists of birthday presents and other things that I want to look up when I'm out and about.

Thanks glitterbaby and 7 week wonder.
I do need to see how much my PC will cost to get repaired. If its too expensive I may as well buy a newer one. I'm using my mobile for everything at the moment.
The keyboard has broken on the PC. I could by a small keyboard and adaptor but that's a bit cumbersome.
I only told BF I was bored of his gaming whilst I'm round there and his language whilst playing it. His texts weren't nice to me so if he can't take it on board that I'm not sitting week in week out listening to him for hours and hours then that's up to him. This year is about me and that may sound selfish but I've had to put loads on the back burner for over 3 years to help one of my family out. When that was done and dusted I had money I could save as I'm the big 50 this year and I want to go out and do things. If he's not willing and spending his money on gaming then I'll do things by myself or with couple of friends I have.
Sorry i don't want to rant but I haven't exactly had a good time financially for past 3 years and have help others even when I shouldn't.

    Ahoy there

Just wrote a great long post only to lose it:mad:

However, I have been atop to the crows nest and can see the crew below working the decks like billy-o and the sails are billowing with the winds of change.

I have not the energy to rewrite my words, suffice to say it's been an uppy downy day on this deck though I am happy to report an overall satisfaction with it.

Good to see that folk are thinking before buying. It can make a big difference to give it a minutes pondering time. Invariably we make a different decision having thought things through and are usually pleased with the outcome.

I am tucked in my hammock with tea and a book avoiding my rum rations at all costs. Need to cut down on the alcohol a bit. Not easy for an old sea dog like me I can tell you.

So nearly at the end of day two so I don't think I'll be spending any more today. Except maybe a metaphorical penny! ( it's after the watershed!)

    Kind regards shipmates
    Slowdown:)

I note your name - I'm Doing It For Me! Good on you girl.
  • Thank you Slowdown. I've managed to save because I've either gone without or been really really frugal.
I've cut bills to the bare bone as well as only bought YS food and not taken too many car journeys. I'm used to this now but I'm still learning.
I'm cutting a bit of slack though this year - still being mindful of what I buy as its now instilled in me.
I'm glad i have and I'm still willing to learn as its become a way of life to me. I just need to get my head around that spending on myself isn't frivolous and to stop worrying about money. So although I'm cutting a bit of slack I'm going to have fun
Oh by the way I'm trying to prize the candle out of its holder that I broke earlier (MS you know :rotfl: ). Its not happening and its sharp. I don't want to throw the candle away.

This year is about me and that may sound selfish but
BUT NOTHING....You are absolutely NOT being selfish, he sounds like a prize pillock who certainly doesn't deserve you! Yes, you SHOULD put yourself first, it sounds like you haven't done that for a long while, if you ever did at all, so DO IT!

I turn 50 this year too and my mindset has changed recently. I live by myself (and have no significant other but I live in hope ;-) ) and I have decided that as much as I used to think that I ought to look a certain way, or behave in a particular way, the only person I should aim to please/impress is ME!
My health must come first and I am starting to plan ahead to my retirement, hopefully from FT work at 55. That includes thinking about types of furniture I will need to have (high back arm chair, eye-level grill, higher bed etc) what I should get rid of while I am strong and agile enough to do it and what things will make my life easier later on, while still enjoying life NOW.

Sorry for rambling about me... this was meant to be a quick reply to you, as I said, yes, DO IT FOR YOU and don't worry about HIM!

  • I have had a fabulous day here in beautiful sunny Shropshire. For the last 6 months we have been using a purse system for our spending. We get the cash out every month and allocate it to the purses. We have Food, Medical, DIY, Garden, Chickens, Going Out, Petrol, Logs, Water Rates, Insurances. Once a month we write down what we have spent in each purse and shift money accordingly. Last month we had enough money in the DIY fund (we are renovating the house) to pay for a gorgeous new sofa two weeks before christmas. Anyway:rotfl: today we had a lovely day out, first we went to a wonderful cafe by our local canal and had bacon butties and pots of tea, paid for from our Going Out purse, so technically a NSD:T then a short drive to one of the meres for a gorgeous winter walk. We took flasks of tea and sat by the water watching the geese and ducks flying around. Then home for more tea and crumpets.
We have a well stocked store cupboard so ate from there tonight, I had tinned mac cheese with left over cheeses melted in and the others had soup and toast.
I have come up with an idea for OH's pillow protectors, so will make those at the weekend.
Tonight I noticed I am running short of cleanser, I had been using Lush for a while, then got some Liz Earle a few momths ago. In true NBI style I used a scoop of coconut oil, melted in in my hand and used the oils cleansing method with that. Didn't need to moisturise after also:j
I am loving these little challenges. Night night all.
Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j

Thanks alice-mary. Seems we're in the same boat in a kind of way. 'Scuse the pun :rotfl::rotfl:.
Im planning a girly trip with a couple of friends this year.
One is very MSE so she's sorting out prices for us all.
Any hoo I don't want to hyjack the thread my username may have but I'm still here and will be for a longtime. Lurking and learning....:j. Night all. I'm swaying in my hammock nice and gently listening to chill out music on you tube.
