  • I turned 50 last year and I was determined I wasn't going to spend a year dreading it so on my 49th birthday I started a list of 50 things to do before I was 50. Lots of them cost very little - fly a kite (had never managed to get one airborn before) wild camp, watch the sunrise on the longest day, make cheese. Some cost a bit more, trips to the Giant's Causeway and a balloon festival and a night away on my own. But it was well and truly worth it. I discovered that I really enjoyed doing some things on my own, it gave me a real sense of freedom and (sounds a bit selfish I know) but it was great doing things I wanted to do and allowing myself not to really care what others thought. Whatever happens with your boyfriend, try doing things for yourself. As they say... You deserve it!

Thanks, oceandreamer, for that idea. I think I might start my list of 60 things to do before I'm 60 (and afterwards), I passed the 50 point quite some time ago!

    Debt-free and Proud!
Very busy day here in the dm household and a tired one at that, dd teething so sleep is lacking somewhat.

Managed to get a few more chores done, all washing caught up on and thanks to the parents have replaced my broken washing airer with one they no longer wanted or needed.

Today sadly not a NSD but we had been putting off a trip to ike@ for months to get a new TV unit storage jars and some of there tat as dh calls it, decided against a proper tv unit for a unit that can also take draws ideal for extra kitchen storage (it's going in dining room) got my large storage jars as over the years they have disappeared and what not, will be so much easier to store packets without the contents going everywhere. Why do I feel so guilty about something we have been meaning to buy for months.

Sorted on cleaning stuff for the next few months, this year I am aiming to 'make' our chinese takeaways instead of buying them in, the wholesalers we went to sell the huge bottles of white vinegar and bicarb, got the bits and pieces for trying some hopefully easy recipes.

Finally popped to Mr T just in time for final reductions one full freezer, a £19 spend has covered almost a month of the meat for meals and 44 jacket potatoes for once we did not venture upstairs to look at clothing household and what not.

Stepchildren gone home so house seems very quite tonight, mine back tomorrow from their dads so the fun starts up again, planning cinema evening with them, a choice of any prime Amazon movie (as long as it's included ie no extra cost) hot water bottles big fluffy blanket, pop corn via microwave and hot chocolate we all squeeze on one sofa, we normally do this every other week but I am pushing for it weekly it's nice to all be together.

Dd's first birthday present brought and one for sons birthday.

Off for a catch up on here love reading how everyone's journey is going.
    Debt free

Hi fellow matelots I am now permanatly back in my own hammock for the first time since before Christmas.I have been helping DD with decorating and by the time I got home I just dumped most of the stuff in the porch as I just wanted to get my shoes off and feet up.I have done zilch since I got home apart from watch some catch-up t.v. At least being too-ing and fro-ing between both Dds houses has meant I haven't been near a supermarket so not spending any cash at all ,and no intentions of doing so.I made a scratch salady meal tonight and used up some left over bits that I had brought home including the delicious hm pate that my DD's Brother-in-law had made for our New Year dinner party.I even used up the last bit of slightly wrinkled red pepper that was lurking in the fridge (diced up and shoved in a salad I 'm not bothered about the odd wrinkle :):):))
Tomorrow I shall make some leek and tattie soup as I have some bendy leeks and plenty of potato's.My conservatory still has quite a bit of fruit still in there and as its been fairly nippy the past week or so its kept very well. So I think I will be using some of that over the next few days instead of stodgy puds.I do enjoy stewed appled with a sponge topping so I may compromise a little as I know there are five apples that need to be used up over the weekend.
CAFCGirl I have pm'd you, as I am in and out tomorrow just ring me as I am not very far from my house so I can nip back and sort the breadmaker out for you no probs.its just sitting there and has never ever been used so your welcome to it:)
Right Time I toddled off to bed,i'm reading Alex Hailey's 'Roots' at the moment and finding it really interesting DD got it for me a few weeks agao.My DGS Ben gave me Jack Kerouac's 'On the Road' to read as I have to give him my opinion of it :):):) That'll keep me busy for awhile.
Keep the gangplank up chums ,no drifting into big shops :):):)
    Cheers chums

  • Another NSD, had to do some work before I could take the dogs out, it was lovely walking in the cold, got rosy cheeks... Have a vets appointment in the morning so will have to spend something, just annual injections but they need them. Only 1 vets locally so cannot shop around for price.

Need to get milk and a few other essentials from SM and take 2 pictures to be framed. Don't know what they will cost but they need doing as we have spent money on the art. By the way it was not expensive but we will not be buying anymore this year. :D

Used up the last of the ham for dinner and had Christmas pudding, yummy. I still have a freezer full of food so I am hoping that the food budget will be reallocated to pay for the framing.

Have a bag of items for the CS which I will take in the morning. Had to throw out a pair of jeans today as the had a huge hole in the seam so more decluttering.

Overpay mortgage £100 per month. Not Buying it 2015.
  • As I expected I did spend yesterday - ordered my seed potatoes for Lottie. It's so good to be thinking about Spring at this time of year.

Today I'll have to buy a train ticket and also milk as I'm about to run out but I think that's all. I will be going into town to get the train and will not be going into the shops!

    Not Buying It in 2015
  • Morning. A horrible rainy day here so hubby and the kids are going to start decorating the nursery. Hoping to find enough paint in the loft.

I'm off out to collect a second hand changing mat I saw on a fb selling page last night and also deliver an old computer desk that someone has bought...so technically a nsd and in fact I will be £4 up.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice on greenhouse glass.

More cooking this afternoon...a cheeseboard and onion quiche and some homemade wedges as I have a few sad looking potatoes left. Will serve with baked beans for a cheap and cheerful tea.
  • Cornishgirl18 - was it you that said you were due in 12 weeks time? We must be very close, I'm due on 25th march :-)

I had a bit of good news, I sold a bag I love but never use for £20! We are going to deliver it en route to the recycling centre so all going well that will be £20 to go in my spends purse (as the bag was bought with my money originally). I'm hopeful this will last me the month as I've no plans for spending it at present.

Last night I cooked a homemade sausagemeat and stuffing plait from the freezer with homemade mash. We have half of the plait left, a big dish of mash and I also cooked 6 jacket spuds at the same time so tea for tonight and ongoing sorted!

The weather is horrible here, grey and very wet, we are going to brave the recycling centre and visit my sister as it's her birthday. This afternoon my husband is going to lay insulation in the roof of our in laws annexe next door (a job that's been waiting since June), tomorrow if the weather reports are correct and it's dry he is going to rotivate the veg plot. We had a 60x20ft veg plot in the field last year, this year we plan to put a poly tunnel over it and dig an outdoor veg bed next to it. We have the poly tunnel hoops (in laws were farmers) just need the polythene.
Any poly tunnel tips or book/website recommendations greatly received.

Must work the left over salad and 3 wrinkly parsnips into the meal plan rather than waste them.

£40 in food purse still intact :-)

    Off to get dressed.

    Speak later

Thanks glitterbaby and 7 week wonder.
I do need to see how much my PC will cost to get repaired. If its too expensive I may as well buy a newer one. I'm using my mobile for everything at the moment.
The keyboard has broken on the PC. I could by a small keyboard and adaptor but that's a bit cumbersome.
I only told BF I was bored of his gaming whilst I'm round there and his language whilst playing it. His texts weren't nice to me so if he can't take it on board that I'm not sitting week in week out listening to him for hours and hours then that's up to him. This year is about me and that may sound selfish but I've had to put loads on the back burner for over 3 years to help one of my family out. When that was done and dusted I had money I could save as I'm the big 50 this year and I want to go out and do things. If he's not willing and spending his money on gaming then I'll do things by myself or with couple of friends I have.
Sorry i don't want to rant but I haven't exactly had a good time financially for past 3 years and have help others even when I shouldn't.

I assumed the gaming boyfriend was in his early 20's... apparently not. He sounds addicted, just bloody rude or both. Either way, you can do so much better... and very much so on your own.

However if you want to re-ignite his interest I would say the best thing you can do is not contact him; let him make the running; basically disappear off the face of the earth as far as he is concerned. If he cares, it will wake him up and he will seek you out. If not... you are well rid of a selfish, immature man. xx

Morning everyone. It was my son's birthday yesterday and we managed a fairly frugal trip out with him and two mates. Then we called at the supermarket on the way home to get some treats for his sleepover and my eldest son and husband were picking up all sorts of unnecessary rubbish. I did want to make a scene but I was not happy!

Quiet day today. I want to get the rest of the decorations down and have a good clean. Our cupboards and freezer are nearly empty but I found some stewing beef to put in the slow cooker.
