do you air your bed?

Thanks very much for this reminder. I've just spent two weeks in hospital with severe asthma - something I've not had for 25 years, when one bad bout prompted me to stop smoking. I now have a whole new way of life: no more washing bedlinen at low temperatures or being casual about dusting. The lovely Soibahn from the British Lung Foundation (my new best friend) says air the bedroom every day, and although she didn't say air the bed, having read this am going to start as it seems excellent advice. Soibahn also says get a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter - I found John Lewis do an Electrolux one for £49.99 - and have started vacuuming the mattress every time I change the bed.
I'm interested in the tea tree oil idea, but not sure what the purpose of it is, apart from a nice smell, of course. All Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace

cotton sheets and one bamboo blanket and it`s warm and cosy. Pull back every morning. Windows open depending on the rain. Re-make in the afternoon. It always feels so much fresher when aired0

Just realised how lazy I sound! - but I always oversleep!
I used to - but I got a puppy for Crimbo and she used to wake me up crying for a wee when we were training her and now I guess I'm just so used to getting up for her I always wake up automatically between 6 and 7!

Fly window is open all year. I fling the duvet back as I get out of bed and open big window. By the time I have showered, dressed, cleaned bathroom and tidied upstairs the bed has aired enough to remake. I change bedding every Monday.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

I started airing our bed whenever it was that it started getting warmer! Problem is I have to remember to shut the bedroom door or the dog can be found having a snooze on the underside of the duvet!
I throw it all together just before I go to work at 9 and put a throw over the top and the pillows so the dog can sleep where she likes! (perish the thought that OH (who is obsessive about the smell of dog on the bed) even thinks about making the bed if I forget!)DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

I love getting into a cold bed & like someone else have been known to inadvertantly air my bed by flinging the duvet aside & not make the bed lol. I never think to air it consiously maybe I should!!! I do hoover the mattress though & regularly turn it even though it's a memory foam 1 so doesn't need turning lol just a habit i got into with my old 1.
Hugs

I'd never considered airing my bed although I probably inadvertently do most of the time by not making it! I've done it today though! It's pretty windy here so the whole flat seems fresh now!

Thanks for the tips!0 -
I have always aired then made properly. Although there's something depressing about finding a bed still unmade at bedtime, I did enjoy recently reading that making the bed is the equivalent of taking your shoes off, then tying the laces!0

Yup I always air the bed, sometimes for most of the day! Feels much fresher when you get back in somehow
. Plus I love getting into a cool bed!! :wave:0 -

I seem to remember reading on here that tea tree oil is a disinfectant. I started to use it when I came out in weals. I thought it was allergy to bed bugs but it turned out to be hives, something I had never had and don't want again.0
