Why do some many people love Dysons?

The same reason people buy Smeg fridges or Bose stereos. They like to think they're buying the best and enjoy brand snobbery, when the MSE way is to buy the best value product rather than one which looks the best or has developed an image as the best.

A lot of people are happy to save £20 and buy an inferior product for the sake of gaining some cred with some middle-aged folk on MSE.

Only snob in this thread if you, unfortunately.

Who said inferior? I've used Dysons and they've performed no better than other makes. I presume you must own a smeg fridge and a dyson!

Jealous of people with more money than you?

I had a DC01 for several years and thought it was okay until I was given a Miele Cat and Dog by someone who was emigrating. With a long-haired dog and two cats I realise how poorly the Dyson picked up so gave it away within a month. I later got another Miele from freecycle, so keep one up and one downstairs. Had them both serviced when I got them so they cost me £58 in total and am more than okay about them, I wouldn't have any other brand now (even if I had to pay for one!).

I've a 10 yr old dyson and it's great, I can service it and replace parts when necessary. I've also got a henry and the shape of my house means using it is a real faff. My mother hates my dyson - I've no idea what she does to it, but whenever I come back and she's used it she's put bits of tape round it and is in a mood with it.

Mum has 4 vacuum cleaners so clearly she's not delirious about any of hers. They have all been fine when I've used them, although they pick up less than the dyson - i don't really get why she has 4 and I've no idea why she hates the dyson.

Maybe the cylinder ones are better? I only like upright hoovers though (sorry to me any vacuum cleaner is a hoover!).

I keep pressing the button to release the dust thing rather than the on/off switch because they are too close together. When I used it today the hose drove me so mad I was swearing the whole time! It must have been invented by a man as it is so awkward and cumbersome to use

I think for my sanity and health I need to get a different make - Miele sounds good although not sure how expensive they are new. Might look for a secondhand one.

I just can't get over the price of Dysons - I expected it to be wonderful and yet it doesn't pick up the dog and cat hair any better than hoovers I have bought for about £50.

All of you saying that the Dyson doesn't pick up any more than other vacuum cleaners, when did you last change or wash your filters? I have a DC07, and the suction is incredible if we wash the filter every two months of so.

The Dyson I am using was used once by my mum. She hated it so never used it again. I have only used it for less than a week and it really does not pick up any better than other far cheaper makes I have had. I also find it doesn't do edges very well and then I have to use the awful pain in the a*** pipe and tools
