I'm declaring £530 for March, meaning I hit the £1k mark for quarter 10

Lalman congratulations on both your engagement and a great savings month
I have added £1,000 this month which is more than I expected. I have the stress of a bit of uncertainty over my job though. If all is well on the job front I will be able to add more to the total next month as my ISA interest comes in around the middle of the month. I am going away on holiday in early April, but have put some a little bit away towards that (not included in the savings total).
Thank you as always SF for the work you are doing on this thread.0 -
Congratulations, Lalman!
Can I please amend my target figure to £1000? The first couple of months of this year have given me a bit of insight into my savings and I think my target of £2000 might have been a bit optimistic and unfortunately unrealistic. So I think a more manageable target of £1000 is best for me at this stage.0 -
Just a quick question, but I don't think it merits a topic of its own!
I'm doing a clear out of old documents etc and re-organising my filing, I'm just wondering, is there a specific time period you either have to, or it's recommended to, keep the following types of documents?:-
Bank statements
Mobile phone bills
Credit card statements
Payslips
Thanks in advance.0 -

Have managed to squirrel away an extra £200 this month due to a small work bonus so am declaring £1075 for March. Savings not looking too bad given that we are only a quarter of the way through the year. I did wonder if I should raise my target but I came in under target last year, so would rather leave it as is and beat it this year.0

Lalman , congrats!
As for the ring, think of it as something you only buy once, and although you don't want to break the bank on it, you don't want to be too cheap, as it stays in the family afterwards. A month salary can get you something quite credible if you go through a private jeweller, with the right stone certification. Based on how flexible you/she is on the 4Cs, you can stretch your money quite far.
I got engaged 2 yrs ago, and the ring at the time felt like a frivolous spend, but seeing the look on her face when i proposed, and seeing it on her hand everyday since then, makes me feel so happy i didn't got too cheap. I wouldn't change a thing.
You don't want to be reminded of that decision for the next 30 years, especially since it sounds like you have a fairly bright and financially secured future.

Randomly had a similar conversation at work with someone today 'asking out of curiosity' as to how much to spend? I always took it that a months salary was a guide as to how much to spend, but I've had conversations with people who have spent from 2 weeks pay to 6 weeks pay. I seem to remember talking to my uncle years ago who when he asked my Aunties dad for permission, his reply was:
'I expect you to spend a months salary, then I know you are serious, it will show you are responsible (at saving etc) it wont disappoint my daughter and remember you are buying something that will be passed down generations and will become a piece of family history long after you are gone...so its worth doing properly'
Clearly we all have a finite amount of money, so just find the best deal you can for the budget that you have and I'm sure your Missus will be chuffed!Millionaire in Training
